Yet another muse has wormed her way into my mind and heart. This is Tasha Watersong, a shaman from the Warsong Clan. As a child she was infected with the red pox and sent to Garadar like other children in her clan, thus escaping the fel corruption that befell her kin. She became the mate of Dranosh Saurfang and came with him to Azeroth when he wanted to join his father, Varok, there. She was in Northrend at the Wrath Gate when Dranosh was killed but she wasn't able to storm Ice Crown with the rest of the Horde and avenge her fallen mate. This is because just after the events of the Wrath Gate it was discovered that Tasha was pregnant and Varok would not risk his grandchildren, his last link to his son, and so he sent Tasha back to Warsong Hold. After returning to Orgrimmar she gave birth to twins, naming them Ardor (boy) and Anati (girl).

Actually we might have the answer in another bit of interview, but for the Star Wars franchise.
That’s the plot—exploring her favorite tropes with Sylvanas with “why the bad things” + “still fighting even though she’s been knocked down every single moment of her unlife” to culminate in triumph of “human spirit” as she evolves into the Arbiter, Jailer, or Sacrifice. And we know there are so many other good characters left to destroy by this boring trope.
I guess people were right to point to her other works to reveal why they had little hope for all that is to come for Sylvanas Windrunner. She’s been playing these games through every franchise she’s touched. No wonder you’re all skeptical. You can’t expect a lot from a writer that’s a three trick pony.

I can tell you right now what makes good people go bad.
A REALLY BAD FUCKING DAY.
Don’t need to explore that in depth. Don’t need a huge, long journey that brings them to darkness. Just give the character a really bad fucking day. Like oh... hey Anakin Skywalker? Hello? He had really bad fucking day and ended up as Darth Vader in a matter of hours.
Not hard, Christie, to understand that concept.
You’re just a bad writer with a scope more narrow than Widowmaker’s.
This...all of this...it's not rocket science...
.... <looks at Khadgar> Hmm. Nearly got killed by mentor. Killed mentor because was possessed by a literal demon, was cursed to be 70+ at the age of 18~19. Gonna guess he had a bad day. Did not turn into a demon. BUT! Big difference between him and Anakin? Khadgar had SUPPORT. Anakin was told "your mother shouldn't matter to you because you should not have been attached to her in the first place". Dude. I'd have fucked up everything if I'd been told that when my father died. Pretty sure that Khadgar would have just continued to murder if someone told him that his mentor (and likely one of the first people to treat him not as a liability but as a student who wanted to know everything) never mattered, or that he should have put a blade through him sooner... gonna say he'd likely not have turned out as he did. If Anakin had been met with "shit dude... I'm sorry for your loss, what can we do" instead of a lecture on 'attachment', things would have gone differently right from there.
Take-away? One really bad day can completely fuck up a character and turn them down a very dark path. All you need is a lack of support system to keep them from doing so. What really causes characters to go down that path? Varies from character to character. Just find something they love and destroy it. Or in Sylvanas' case, kill her, turn her into what she hates, wreck her home, watch her rise up above the mindless undead thing she became and become a shining beacon to those who have also risen up to be thinking beings again... ....and then whatever the actual fuck happened to her since then. Considering some of the first quests back in ORIGINAL WoW were centered on creating a plague to kill the living who hated them... well. The Forsaken never hid SHIT from the world. They were just grateful someone had their backs while they did it because like the rest of the Horde, they just wanted to live (even if they wanted to kill people too).

It’s become clear to me that the delay in the Sylvanas book is because they haven’t decided how to resolve her in game. I can’t believe people are excited about a book written by someone who is partly responsible for the narrative we’re in now. Golden is not pro women. I wish more people read her works to see she has a pattern of failing female characters.
Here's what I have learned being in various Discord servers where I've met a wide range of people and read their takes on this whole mess:
Some people like this story and are excited for it.
Some people think this is the best character development Sylvanas has ever had and are excited for the conclusion.
Some people are such huge fans of Golden's works that she can write Sylvanas being brutally butchered down and will still praise it and say she's done good by Sylvanas.
Some people have unquestionable faith in the staff and the story and think it'll check out once it's all out in the open and we "look back."
Some people are simply trolls and will vouch against your views just to fuck with you.
Some people want to work at Blizzard so badly and are ass kissing as much as possible, befriending voice actors, devs, writers, etc. for the chance to weasel their way into the company they dream of getting checks from. They're building a public pro-Blizzard persona so that it looks good on their resume.
Some people actually hate Banshee Sylvanas—but liked who they think she was in life and are waiting for that Sylvanas to come back and see the current plot as a chance; they'd love nothing more than Banshee Sylvanas being a separate, evil side that has nothing to do with the Ranger-General.
Some people have not yet perceived their internalized misogyny and are okay with so many things they shouldn't be okay with because they do not see it as problematic; they haven't assessed that side of themselves. And it's always a work in progress—for all of us. I am also not perfect and sometimes I fall into that internalized mindset.
As for Golden, I have no opinion on her as a writer beyond the scope of WoW since she's never appealed to me in a way that would make me want to buy/read her other works. Like I said, before I realized her culpability in the current plot, she was a writer who made me feel nothing. She was never able to move me or make me have "feels."
Now after BtS/BfA/SL, I appreciate her even less, when I know she's partly responsible for where we stand now with Sylvanas. As such, I would prefer not to get anymore asks about Christie Golden.
I don't want to border on "author hate" and it's difficult not to appear that way when I have lost all respect for her contributions to WoW. I have nothing positive to say about her take on Sylvanas. At this point this is really beating over a corpse. I hope you all can understand.

I believe that was something Madeleine Roux commented on when she wrote Shadows Rising, that she had to follow a particular narrative that Blizzard wanted to tell.
Plus it doesn't help that Christie blocked me on Twitter (amongst others) for some petty high school-level gossipy bullshit.
She’s written for Star Wars, mostly the Fate of the Jedi series, and isn’t well liked over there either. The FotJ series is the first Star Wars series I couldn’t finish. Her writing style and characterization is terrible. If you thought Rian Johnson did Luke Skywalker a disservice in The Last Jedi, so did Golden with her Fate of the Jedi books.
She also wrote Dark Disciple and pretty much characterized Dooku out of character for plot sake. I was very disappointed in the story and thought maybe it was because this was meant to be an episode for the Clone Wars tv series, but then remembered her take on Luke Skywalker and Admiral Daala.
Frankly I do not think she knows the fandoms she writes for half the time.
What's really sad to me is that I met this woman through a mutual fanfic author friend back in 2005. She was a very nice woman. Had nothing bad to say about anyone. I had only, at that time, read her co-authored warcraft-lore books, and they had been brilliant. She claimed 90% of the credit - which was alarm #1.
Now? I do not know what became of the woman I had met, talked to, traded theories with, had lunch will, fixed cosplay of. She is not the woman I hung out with that convention. Not by a long shot.
The Warcraft-movie novelization was screen-accurate for the most part, but JFC if I had to read about Khadgar being a child with raven-wing eyebrows on one more page.... It's obvious to me she hated him from the first page!
The Shattering was the only other book I think was done well (apart from the early stuff I mentioned earlier). Not perfect. Nothing to uber-squee at.

If the leak about Arbiter Sylvanas is true I’m done. First they made her stupid. Then they made her into another Arthas. Then she got triggered and decided to jump ship. Now they’re gonna make her be guilt consumed, taking away her personality and essence and sacrifice her to pay for it and be rid of the guilt. It’s too much assassination. Maybe I’m mean but I would rather she dies and never comes back than have her written more by these writers.
I want to break into the game and take her out of there so she can go have a better destiny in another universe, but that's not possible. We only have the failure of canon, and the comfort of fanfics, now.
Listen, Arbiter Sylvanas is bad. So bad. It's another prison. And it's a prison they wrote for her on purpose—if this rumor is true. I have so much to scream about how much I'd hate this, but I present to you a single good thing about this ending.
