man my army brother is posting islamophobic bs because of the most recent attack and now i’m sitting here wondering what I value more. him as a sibling or my morals.
He’s making a fallacious argument from authority.
ISIS was tied to the bombing in brussels, but it does not follow that all adherents of Islam must be taken to task because if ISIS’s actions.
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made this disgusting ‘joke’ at a recent conservative political conference.
The dude creepily giggles (and the audience joins in) after admitting to beating his wife. Yeah, ‘cuz domestic violence is apparently hilarious.
How could anyone want to vote this misogynistic scumsack into office??

disgusting
what the fuck
I’m so disturbed - Mod K
So like… If this guy actually gets the nomination after this…
Don’t think you get it.
He’s referencing the classic example of a loaded question “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?”. It’s loaded since it implies that he has beat his wife. So he’s joking and saying that if the liberal media is going to ask the question, it’s going to be loaded.
He is joking. This is a joke. THE VIOLENCE ISN’T THE JOKE; THE FACT THAT INTERVIEWERS PULL LOADED QUESTIONS IS THE JOKE. I’m very sorry that you guys never learned your fallacies so you couldn’t enjoy good-natured humor such as this.
its tumblr. anything that isnt genocide against males isnt a funny to them
Like Cruz is a terrifying man but come on guys
Every day, I grow more and more confident that ¾ of this site do not understand basic tenets of social interaction.
To further clarify: the classic example “Have you stopped beating your wife? Yes or no?” is a question impossible to answer: If you reply ‘yes’ then you are admitting to having beaten your wife in the past. If you reply ‘no’ then you are stating you still ARE beating your wife. It’s a regularly quoted textbook example of a dishonest and purposely leading question, the type of which the man in the video is clearly expecting to be asked and so making light of it.
The fact that 60,000 tumblrtards have gleefully reblogged it missing the point completely just goes to prove how dangerous it is to ever overestimate the intelligence of the American public.
Lets do an experiment: reblog if you would feel safer hanging out with trans women (regardless of what genitals they currently posses) than Cis women who are transphobic and deny trans women’s obvious womanhood.
Every fucking time.
False dichotomy (loosely), Poisoning the Well, False Equivalence
oh thank god im free
Oh, okay! :)
Hallelujah!
This is a No True Scotsman Fallacy. That is this tweet could be rephrased to “No true gamer would be anti-gamergate.”
Genetic Fallacy
A Genetic Fallacy is a line of "reasoning" in which a perceived defect in the origin of a claim or thing is taken to be evidence that discredits the claim or thing itself. It is also a line of reasoning in which the origin of a claim or thing is taken to be evidence for the claim or thing.
How White People Sound When They “Disagree” With PoC About Racism Posted on
This morning on Twitter, Mia had a few words for white people who “disagree” with PoC about racism. It’s funny because it’s true.
(via: blackgirldangerous)
This is a genetic fallacy, implying that one must be a direct recipient of racism to have formed an opinion on it. I have never been stabbed with a knife, but I have opinions on how bad that is.
IMPORTANT
If someone complains that they have a physical disability like arthritis, carpal tunnel, tendinitis or something else that doesn’t allow for the full use of their hands
OR some other disability like vertigo
DO NOT be a shitty asshole and say, “Videogames weren’t made for people like you.”
The official forums are full of this crap today because some people dared say they have a disability and therefore can’t complete the collection for the snowflake shoulders because they can’t do the Wintersday jumping puzzle.
I agree that that’s a shitty response to people complaining, BUT is the response to strip down difficulty from a game to accommodate those with certain limitations, meanwhile trivializing the game for those who don’t?
If there were settings that could offset some of them, ie. vertigo, that makes sense to me (because visual hacks can make that much more do-able). However catering to the dexterity limitations is ultimately going to make such challenges shallow and unsatisfying.
It’s been done in GW2 before. Refer to “Super Adventure Box: Infantile Mode.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Adventure_Box
Let people have the collection achievement in Easy Mode, then add additional – but optional – incentives and achievements in normal mode.
Aren’t the collections already optional? Wouldn’t this just push the problem forward one, as people with the above challenges would be locked out from these new optional incentives/achievements?

Tumblr logic.
PREACH.
Yet all of the examples you cite are cases in which the characters themselves are supposed to have aged chronologically with the character they are returning to portray.
If they are looking to simply continue the Xena series then yes this is a double standard. If this is a reboot then this is a false equivalence.
i am so tired of men having to give me their Opinions on Everything
How horribly offended would everyone be if I said this about women.
an example of men having to give me their Opinions on Everything
If alcohol labels told the truth.
Oh my gosh, heyyyyyyyyy
Fun fact: tequila is the only alcohol that is not a depressant. That’s why when you drink it you get hot and happy! Oh and if the bottle doesn’t say 100% agave it’s not real tequila stay away from Jose Cuervo or sauza they are 50% corn syrup that’s why you feel like dying the next day
Thank you bartender tumblr
This is a myth, while they do add stimulants to Tequila, however it still contains 31-55% alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant, the stimulants can mask some of the sensations that are associated with drunkenness but the central nervous system is still being depressed by the alcohol, and you are still impaired from the alcohol in Tequila.
Furthermore, no clinical studies have ever shown Tequila to be a stimulant, or even simply not a depressant.
I feel exhausted and humiliated. This is in regards to the comic I posted yesterday.
This does not make any sense at all. Whenever someone creates a piece of creative work, those that see it will find their own meanings in the work even if the creator did not intend those meanings to be there. If that’s a problem for you, I suggest no longer publishing any of your work because you are demanding that people not filter artwork through the lens of their own experience, which they will always do.
Flawless logic.
For sluglover43: Ad Hominem or Personal Attack
Description of Personal Attack
A personal attack is committed when a person substitutes abusive remarks for evidence when attacking another person’s claim or claims. This line of “reasoning” is fallacious because the attack is directed at the person making the claim and not the claim itself. The truth value of a claim is independent of the person making the claim. After all, no matter how repugnant an individual might be, he or she can still make true claims.
Not all ad Hominems are fallacious. In some cases, an individual’s characteristics can have a bearing on the question of the veracity of her claims. For example, if someone is shown to be a pathological liar, then what he says can be considered to be unreliable. However, such attacks are weak, since even pathological liars might speak the truth on occasion.
In general, it is best to focus one’s attention on the content of the claim and not on who made the claim. It is the content that determines the truth of the claim and not the characteristics of the person making the claim.
Examples of Personal Attack
In a school debate, Bill claims that the President’s economic plan is unrealistic. His opponent, a professor, retorts by saying “the freshman has his facts wrong.”
“This theory about a potential cure for cancer has been introduced by a doctor who is a known lesbian feminist. I don’t see why we should extend an invitation for her to speak at the World Conference on Cancer.”
“Bill says that we should give tax breaks to companies. But he is untrustworthy, so it must be wrong to do that.”
http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/personal-attack.html
Worth noting that not all personal attacks are ad hominems.
If I were to call someone an asshole, I haven’t committed a fallacy, rather I’m stating my estimation, albeit poor, of them.
An ad hominem can only occur when you attempt to attack the person rather than the argument they are presenting.
The logical fallacy of "you're with us or against us" and cola talk
Hey aliens, there’s a lot of rhetoric and opinions that go along the lines of “you’re with us or you’re against us.” I’m not sure exactly when this enemy of logic and reason was born, but it appears it is here to stay.
The phrase was made famous by George W. Bush before he invaded Iraq for weapons of mass destruction. Then when he said it everyone had a good laugh at the absurdity of the statement. Except then something unspeakable happened; everyone adapted that irrational paradigm of logic. I’m not sure how it happened, but when you’re out and about in this world it’s how people think.
The people who get shit on the most with this faulty paradigm are generally libertarians or anyone with an opinion that differs from anyone else. People will praise that we should all get along, but then when times comes when you have a different opinion than them they get weirded out.
An example of this that I saw today were people claiming Ron Paul supports sexual harassment. Except he didn’t say that he supports sexual harassment. His belief is that the federal government shouldn’t legislate things like sexual harassment, and that the definition of sexual harassment was too subjective to clearly define what constitutes as sexual harassment. He never stated that the workplace should be home of the free to grope, molest, and jizz on who ever gives you a hard on. But people walk away that since Ron Paul is against federal law dictating sexual harassment he must clearly be for sexual harassment.
The argument that “you’re with us or against us” is a logical fallacy since there is always more than one opinion on any subject. So when people come to the conclusion that “If you’re for A, then you must be against B.”
Another example of this can be American politics and the Republican and Democrat paradigm that exists. If you’re against one party it does not necessarily mean that you’re for the other party. Yet people still walk away thinking this absurd thought. To break this down simply I will cola as an example.
The two major cola companies in the united states are Coca-cola and Pepsi. They even share the same colors as the two major political parties, red and blue. Now if you’re for one it doesn’t necessary mean you’re against the other. What if you don’t care for coca-cola or pepsi what about lesser known colas that exist. They’re overlooked and laughed at, Royal Crown cola would be an example of this. What about variety of colas that can be found at grocery stores such as Whole Foods, or a grocer that’s similar. Clearly there are more options to cola than Coke or Pepsi, but most people forget about those or laugh at other companies; just like political parties, ideologies, and any view that differs from their own.
In short aliens what I’m trying to tell you is that humans are terribly stupid. They are tricked and duped into believing just about anything they’re told. Don’t even get me started on statistics.
