There is a spider living in my kitchen. She has been there for a couple weeks now and I have watched her get bigger. I wonder if one of these days she will overthrow me, by reproducing or perhaps consuming me… but she seems far less threatening than our current political climate.

And besides, who would i be to silence her in her rise to power?

That Update I Alluded to Last Week:

Yesterday I was officially invited to be an artist in residence for 9 months as a part of the “Atomic Season” at Studio Current! I will get studio time each week, go to events, and most importantly, be a part of an active interdisciplinary community that encourages and inspires each other. I am pleased.

I will be continuing my interest in the roles we give authority to regardless of knowing their expertise. My only “character” thats ever come up for me is being brought out of the closet and dusted off: the Bad Tour Guide. I will be experimenting with her through a variety of mediums, and we’ll see what happens. This is not working towards an eventual theatrical performance. This is invisible work. This is discovering dailiness again. Creating a practice.

Already something thats come out of this is a new bio, which feels Very Accurate, so I am sharing it here: I am an interdisciplinary cyborg artist specializing in spacetime, the impossible body, and empathy. I am a recent graduate from Bennington College, heartbroken and thrilled. I am figuring out how to keep learning, to be willing, to identify as queer, and to rebel with great love. I strive to make work that is relatable and adaptable. I mediate and subjectify movement through live work, video, and sound. Like most people, I am a conduit, and I hope to collage and fragment the world into unique, nuanced experiences for others. I try to make art that is at its heart human, animal, and machine. Two of my favourite things are learning new things, and then obsessing over them. I have an organized mind and a messy body, although I suppose I don’t agree with that distinction- but you know what I mean.

I also would like to pose a question to you, Breakfast Club: Would you believe anything a tour guide told you?

I have been putting off communicating for several reasons, (choose your own adventure: a. I was intimidated by all your beautiful writing and didn’t think I could live up to your eloquence, b. I was so used to not having great connection to wifi/cell service and didnt want to go back into feeling obligated, c. I was feeling alienated from the experimental dance world and associated that with bennington folk, d. all of the above)

…aaaand maybe y'all noticed and maybe I’ve been making it into a bigger deal than I need to (I have been) but regardless, hello friends! I’m back. I’m in Seattle. Interviews, auditions, applications etc. Sleep is important, and crucial to survival and regulating bodily functions, resetting, growing in a different way, but I am waking myself up, increasing my metabolism and getting ready to fight or flight.

The pressure’s on. It’s good. Today I took my first rigorous dance class in three months. I sweated. What a revival!

I learned and experienced a lot at camp this summer. Here’s some things I thought a lot about: -Identifying and expressing myself as a queer individual out in the world. -Fear: when to listen, when to overcome, when to ignore? -“Oh man, I like teaching science and outdoor living skills to kids way more than dance.” -Being vocal when people say things that are racist, sexist, capitol e Etc., in a work environment and have people take you seriously instead of dismissing you as the crazy progressive. -“I like dirt a lot and I’m honestly scared to go back to living in a building, let alone a city.” -Not Giving A Fuck is sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and actually others also. -Jordan doesn’t feel like my name anymore.

If you want to hear more about those adventures, send me a letter! Let me know what you are up to! I would love to hear life updates through that medium, which to me feels much more personal. I don’t really want to give life updates on this blog honestly because it feels a bit like shouting into a void and expecting/hoping for some great response. I understand though that it is more practical and immediate for certain things though, and I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have a couple big announcements this upcoming week. ~so cryptic~
