Her scar felt like it was burning. She tried to lean forward to stop the sensation on her back, but it didn't work. She could still feel the knife dragging through her skin. Hear The Father's words as he own mother carved her skin for the tree. Praying.* *She can still hear herself begging for mercy. Screaming that she could be rehabilitated. That her defection was just a lapse in judgement. She could see The Father's face, staring back down at her. But she could not remember what he looked like. Only the burning disappointment.* *Elise clutched onto the scar on her face, clawing at the edges. Trying to rip it off. Eden had done this to her. They had to make sure that she knew of her mistake. Scarring her so that she would always remember her folly. She could still feel the sensation of her blood pooling beneath her. She had just been a child. Mama? Mom- are you okay? Mama- hang on- I-I can get uncle Simon- No- I'm gonna try something okay-?

[A warmth enveloped Elli, like a wave or song long forgotten, yet soothing as remembering.]

*She clutched her hair with one hand, pulling. Please. Please. Why couldn't this just stop? She stared down at her own vomit, disgust filling her which only mixed with the panic and terror. Even despite the warmth, she still clawed at the scar on her face, trying to rip it off. Something. Please. Just stop...* *Snot and tears ran down her face and lips and down her neck. She could hardly see, just backing further into the wall again. Her throat burned and her mouth tasted sour and acidic. She gagged subtly, trying to focus on the warmth or the sound of her own child's voice.* *She was a horrible mom. She shouldn't be placing this on her child. They should have time to deal with their own issues. They shouldn't be the one comforting her. Rowan shouldn't be dealing with Eden or any cult, or the trauma that came from it. Oh god, what if The Father got to Rowan-* *She sobbed louder.*

*Elise pulled her knees to her chest, feeling the weighted blanket pressing down on her. She took the glass of water with shaking hands, drinking in large gulps. The taste of vomit and bile faded subtly into an almost sweet taste, still unpleasant. After a moment, she buried her face into the blanket, crying into the fabric.* *They were doing things right, but it still made her feel horrible. Why them? Why did she have to put this worry on their shoulders.* T-Thank you, s-starling. *Her chest suddenly felt hollow. She bit the insides of her lips, shoulders trembling.*

[Rowan nestled near, covering her with their wings.]

[They flicked their tail, humming the same melody Elli had sang to them after their nightmares.]

*Elise looked down at Rowan, squeezing them with one arm. She tried to take deep breaths. In and out. Slower. Just calm down. You're acting like a child again. You've always acted like a child. Why can't you just act normal? Why can't you just grow-* *Her eyes glassed over, voice quieter. She's mumbling.* 'm gonna be fine. I'll probably just talk to Simon later...

I know. You're going to be fine, but you aren't right now. When's the last time you rested?

[They made sure to keep their voice calm and low, covering Elli with one wing and grabbing another summoned glass of water with the other.]

*Elli finally spotted this kid she had pretty much only heard around before. She quietly approached, keeping her voice soft to try and not spook them.* ...Hi there.

[The small child had some sort of hoodie, perhaps poncho on- clearly it was given while in the afterlife, much too pristine in comparison to everything else they wore.. it had cheetah spots and a a hood with ears. They didn’t usually go into the hub, it was loud.. it’s always loud here. They don’t remember things always being this loud back on the station..]

[They were sat in the grass, picking at the green strands that came from the ground. They felt weird. And some of them felt wet, like water was on them, or had been? Why does the floor have water everywhere.. anyways. They’d had their headphones on, the ones they’d gotten from Dali.. perhaps an hour or so before they cycled? They had those on, so the little one didn’t quite hear Elli coming up to them, only really noticed when a shadow fell over them… big BIG shadow.]

[With a fistful of plucked out grass, the little one turns to look at Elli, slowly looking all the way up at her- and proceeding to look at her with wide eyes, the fistful of grass falling from their hand.]

*Elli looked at herself and paused, taking a few steps back. She knelt down, trying to make herself smaller.* I'm sorry. Did I scare you? I'm used to people just being fine with this. I'm not gonna hurt you *She made soft gestures with one of her hands as she spoke, trying to make sure they didn't have to take off their headphones. There was probably at least one person in her being who was trained to deal with children, right?*

[They continue to stare at Elli, at first it looked like they might have been okay after a second. But their eyes getting more teary at the edges definitely showed that they were. Not going to respond well to this.]

[As they stood there, shoulders tensed and holding their sleeves together as if trying to meld into the ground and hide from Elli, shaky breathing and- yep, there goes the sob.]

*Oh. Oh fuck. Ohhhhh fuck.* No no- kid. Kid it's ok. *She showed the kid her hands, backing up even more. In a way, she looked scared in her own way. Would it help to shift into Elise? Or Elle? Elle was better around kids, and less intimidating. But she was fast asleep. Would Elise be better than this? Would changing bodies just make them cry more??*

Elli says she won’t but it’s kinda hard for the small child not to be terrified, when they’re face to face with a being made entirely, clothes included, out of flesh and such that looks both very uncanny-valley-like to them, an just. Terrifying in general. Are those lines on its face?? CAN THE FACE OPEN UP?? ARE THEY GOING TO OPEN THEIR FACE AND EAT ME?!]

[Yep the water works just continue, a mix between a sob and a shout as the little one scrambles back, purely in panic mode at seeing this.. being.]

*Elli also keeps putting distance between the two of them, two hands covering her false face. The fins on her ears are pinned back against her head. She just wanted to ask if they wanted anything baked. She wanted to comfort this kid but she was the one making them cry?? Was she just supposed to keep backing up until she fell out of their mindscape?* *...Yeah that was probably better than just randomly vanishing in front of this already scared kid.* *Just keep backing up...*

Great, see I'm a teacher which means I'm what's called a mandated reporter so I kinda need to report if a student under my care might be unsafe and I don't know if this counts for like a lot of reasons cause the school hasn't started for one but also they're not in danger anymore but Casette needs someone to talk too and I'm not exactly the therapist kinda guy- shit I'm rambling.

Well they think they're dead weight and don't think that their parents ignoring them for their three siblings was abuse. I have a recording... That wasn't exactly consensual but still.
