So, India is dying.

Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.

A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.

There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.

There is no plan.

Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.

Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.

We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.

This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.

We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.

People are dying.

People are dying.

People are dying and there is no plan.

More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.

My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.

Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.

But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.

She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.

So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.

So I think I've come up with a theory as to what happens to Tigris and Snow.

So in mockingjay she was fired for being too Altered by Snow. This happened after the 66th Hunger Games (I believe). 2 years after Finnick won. I have a feeling she might have been his stylist. Now we know from Mockingjay that Finnick was forced into sex work/escorting by the Capitol once he turned 16. This coincides with when Tigris was fired.

Now we know from Ballad, Tigris herself had to do sex work to survive and get by. This is something Snow found unpleasant to think about, maybe once Tigris learned what was to be forced upon Finnick she called Snow out.

Snow probably wouldn't kill her though, I think family will always remain alive no matter how wayward he thinks they've gone. So he fired her from the games under the guise of not being pretty enough when the real reason was he did not want her interfering with the plans of Finnick, this would be a Capitol move to use something else as the reason, rather than create a martyr from the truth.

I think it would be interesting for Tigris and Snow to have actually been life long companions but that it was only seeing the treatment of Finnick that snapped her out of the trance of Snow. She always showed signs of being more empathic than Snow, but her experience being forced on a child pretty much was the last straw for her.

It could make for an interesting Sequel that would give us further history on Panem as she is old enough to probably have learnt a lot more about the history of Panem from Snow and the development of the games to where we saw Katniss. As well as giving us a favourite Character in the process, rather than a few months in the book like Ballas, a sequel like this could be set over a few years. As Finnicks game isn't exactly needed in full detail since we know plenty from the books already.

It's the been a few years since I've read the hunger games, though this is most likely my 5th or 6th time. When I was younger I read them each time a movie came out plus once or twice after Mockingjay Part 2. Back then my age was younger than Katniss but now at 21 rereading it, you can tell Katniss is a child. She is very immature and cocky to some aspect, which is common for a 16 year old. It makes the books even more surreal because in essence she really is just a child in these books, and yet we send children to war all the time. In first world nations we train them from 16, some by choice, some by national laws. Yet elsewhere theres even younger ones living or fighting in wartime, it's insane how they get by because Katniss only barely does.

The cast of the movies was splendid but it for sure doesn't capture, apart from Rue,that they really are children.

Thirteen’s “this team structure isn’t always flat” finally contextualises everything about her relationship with her companions. Namely the fact that, actually, it’s never been a flat structure, not really, not truly.

They aren’t equals, she wants them for staving off the loneliness not feedback. In hindsight she’s repeatedly angry at them trying to correct her moral compass, and that’s so interesting with this incarnation because Thirteen’s morals are both a hypocritical mess and completely rigid in the moment. The constant conflict of the idealism of who she’s pretending to be and the reactionary nature of the very traumatised, very angry person she actually is.

It’s like an adult looking after a group of kids, she humours them, gives them an illusion of some control, but now finally we really see the mask slip off and the real Doctor come out to play. This is why she’s avoiding really giving them full answers, hiding and pretending about her past and who she is. The relationship isn’t such that she thinks they need that information. Note her annoyed deflection in FotJ, “you ask too many questions” and they’re not questions she thinks they have a right to be asking.

With this speech she really said “get back in your place”. Proper scolding. Watch her face, listen to her tone. She isn’t just annoyed, there was disgust there. Arrogance even. How dare they question her? So she threw it right back at them, goaded them, walk the talk or shut up. You can’t do it? You can’t deal with that pain, that responsibility, that blood on your hands? Well too bad, she can and she’s going to, she has to.

That’s as close to a Time Lord Victorious speech as we’ve gotten in a long while now, there was a real underlying element of “I’m a god, what are you to think you know better?”. Running through with the tragedy that it was also a speech coming from the opposite direction of TLV, Thirteen feels so burdened which only adds to her fury. She’s so, so close to breaking now.

And of course that takes you back to the lying and pretending and the matter of whether she’s really adequately prepared them for what they’ve been thrown into. Because on one hand, she does keep warning them, she has given them choices. On the other hand, it’s never been the full truth, which in itself is manipulation in the name of her own self-interests. So we’re back at the beginning of this post, she wants them around for the company, not their opinions. They’re truly emotional support humans to her she wants to show them the wonders of the universe for them to then wonder at her for showing it to them, make her feel loved and less alone and to pretend she can forget the nightmares for a bit, not to question and disagree and disobey and make her feel like more of a monster.
