alright lit fam squad, this is our time. I woke up to this tweet (like 5 hours after it was tweeted bc timezones and Im a lazy cunt) and it reduced me to tears. After seeing this, my first thought was that we’ve gotta do something about it, we needa make our boy smile again! So, everyone who sees this PLEASE reblog this with a kind message or talk about what Ethan has done for you, what he means to you etc. Your message can be as long or as short as you want, just PLEASE get involved so that this can reach Ethan and make him smile.
here’s my story, to start this off…
when I was going through the worst depressive episode I’ve ever experienced, I could not feel anything for months, and it was Ethan who taught me how to feel again. The first time I laughed again was watching his videos, and the sound was something I hadnt heard in so long that it made me jump, I scared myself by laughing. Ethan taught me how to smile, laugh, cry, FEEL. He reminded me of who I was before I’d gotten so stuck, the passions I had. His singing videos reminded me that I loved to sing, and the video games he played reminded me how much I love creating fictional universes similar to them in my own writing.
I went through a stage of cutting off all my friends because I didnt want them to see me the way I was, I didnt want them to waste their time worrying about me. I felt worthless, pointless, hopeless, like my existence itself was a burden. Ethan was the only person whose words actually got through to me, the only person who I couldnt tune out when they tried to bullshit me into believing I mattered, I could only believe him when he told me that.
when I was at my lowest, I attempted something very stupid, which I regret doing now. I put Ethan’s videos on in the background, because I wanted his voice to be the last sound I heard. I was so convinced and so focussed on what I was doing, I didnt think anything could change my mind. But he did. From talking me out of that, he brought me back from the brink.
even now, when Im doing much better, on my rougher days, I know Ethan is always there. Even with timezone differences, if I miss an upload, I know there’s always videos I can rewatch or search for. Ethan is the only consistent thing that I, in my unstable state, feel like I can truly put my trust in. He genuinely does mean absolutely everything to me, and if I could give him the world in any capacity, I’d do so in a heartbeat.
I love Ethan so, so much, and I can never thank him enough for what he’s done for me <3
Ethan is so awesome, really, I am glad that he hasn't quit although others might be more successful than him or whatever. He is unreplacable and special, and that in the best way! His funny videos make my day a lil better, and don't get me started on his few videos where he sings! I absolutely adore his voice and wish he would have a singing video every day :D But in the end: It is right that I found Ethan through Mark, but I stayed for Ethan and Ethan only. I am not the biggest fangirl to ever live but I would be so glad to meet him one day :)

Today (2018-07-05) it didn’t pass, we won!: TRUE, it will be reanalyzed on September, but this time there will be a public and democratic debate, those controversial articles will be almost for sure changed o abolished. We can say that is a HUGE win, they can’t resubmit it without change it. So, we avoid the biggest danger. On September we’ll see.
I will not be able to see my fave Europen Youtubers anymore: FAKE, gamers always been legally okay because gaming companies allowed the “let’s play” content. They also let “let’s players” monetize their videos on gaming companies intellectual property.
Memes will be banned: MAYBE NOT, could be that just a few, it depends on how comprehensive of the meme culture movie/series/music companies are. Could still happen that they allow it. STILL…. Memes are image parodies, so if removed can be disputed. Stick with me, I will explain this later.
The frightening censorship machine: DOESN’T EXIST, online just give this bad name making bigger the simple fact that recognition systems could exchange a parody for a real content. Youtube already have this systems, and there are a lot of parodies!!
I can’t do remixes, memes or parodies anymore: FAKE, this law will not touch the 2001/29/CE action Article 5 paragraph 3 letters d) (quotations for purposes such as criticism or review) and k) (use for the purpose of caricature, parody or pastiche). BUT the new law also say: “Member States shall ensure that the service providers referred to in paragraph 1 put in place complaints and redress mechanisms that are available to users in case of disputes over the application of the measures referred to in paragraph 1.” Basically say that you can immediately make a complain if the automatic system block you from post something. PERSONAL NOTE: Sometimes I make Jack and Mark edits, and a lot of times Instagram block me from post something, I made a complain and after a few minutes my video was up. Once Instagram exange “True Colors” by “Cindy Lauper” with Mark’s overvoice for a German tv program… I was like “WTF?!?!” but with a complain after a minute everything was fine. WHY FOR YOU IS SUCH A BIG DEAL NOW???
I will not be able to post fanart: Fake, you are the owners of the copyright of your draws, so you still can post fanarts.
I will not be able to post links: FAKE(almost), the "link tax” is not a tax and will not grave on us. Basically is what Google/social media will have to pay JUST FOR INFORMATION SITES, for post the snippet (title and image). Because they get money from sharing but never pay back the owner of the articles. So, what does it mean? That this could penalize small information sites if for example Google makes a deal with big sites. But is not exactly censorship, is just unfair.
Beware from the ignorant people that prefer say things as they want them to be, NOT AS THEY ARE.

I actually painted this last year for his birthday, but I was way too shy to post it anywhere. I’m glad I have the confidence now to do so, especially thanks to this community. As of July 4th 2018, the Internet as we know it might be dead for good.
The European Parliament is passing a new Copyright Directive.
Article 13 #CensorshipMachine will impose widespread censorship of all the content we share online. Art, fanfiction, parodies, remixes, mashups, memes, etc.. Anything that you do not hold the rights over will be taken down.
Article 13 would force all online platforms to police and prevent the uploading of copyrighted content, or make people seek the correct licenses to post that content. Internet platforms hosting large amounts of user-uploaded content must monitor user behaviour and filter their contributions to identify and prevent copyright infringement.
Such filters will be mandatory for platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and Instagram, but also much smaller websites.

This doesn’t just affect Europe. The content creators you love are going to be in hot water for sharing their art and writing with you online. Any and all content that doesn’t belong to us will be filtered. Even memes are at risk, as the person who took the original photo may want to file complaints against any platform that allows it to be used without permission. But it goes even further than that.
Last Tuesday (19th June 2018) a group of more than 70 people who have played important roles in building the internet and developing it (Tim Berners-Lee, Vincent Cerf, Jimmy Wales, Mitchell Baker…) into what it is today addressed an open letter to the members of the European Parliament:
“As creators ourselves, we share the concern that there should be a fair distribution of revenues from the online use of copyright works, that benefits creators, publishers, and platforms alike.
But Article 13 is not the right way to achieve this. By requiring Internet platforms to perform automatic filtering all of the content that their users upload, Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet from an open platform for sharing and innovation, into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users. […] The damage that this may do to the free and open Internet as we know it is hard to predict, but in our opinions could be substantial.”

Europe is facing a huge problem, and unlike with Net Neutrality, the world doesn’t seem to care.
Please, please, please help get Article 13 removed.
If it passes, blogs like mine will disappear. Fanfiction. Open-source software. Memes. Everything we know and love about our internet will be affected. I could go on and on about it, but for the sake of brevity, I’m holding my tongue.
We only have until the 4th of July.
This is Net Neutrality 2.0. Please help stop it. This does not just affect EU citizens.
Youtubers you’ll no longer be able to watch if European’s copyright laws passes
Pewdiepie, Jacksepticeye, DanTDM, Daniel Howell, Phil Lester, Caspar, Marzia, and many more.
Anyone and everyone in Europe will no longer be able to view fanwork, Let’s Plays, memes, etc. This is so much worse than Net Neutrality will/would be.

The upcoming European copyright laws = mass Internet censorship
If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.
On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.
Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.
But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.
What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.
