Protagonist VS Antagonist (Haha Fuck You Actor Mark)
My English 9 Honors teacher once told me that the Protagonist isn’t always the hero. Sometimes it’s the character that just keeps the story going. The leading character who the story is mainly about.
And the Antagonist doesn’t always have to be the villain! It’s usually the person who opposes to someone. The person that creates the main conflict.
So going back to the thought of this, it made me start thinking of the Ego lore. Thinking back to “Damien” mainly.
Actor Mark said, and I quote, “Oh and you, you are going to make the perfect villain in my story.” To Damien.
But that’s not the case. As I explained before, an antagonist isn’t technically the villain. Damien is DEFINITELY not a villain from the far run. Damien is more like the character the entire fandom falls in love with. We adore him, and than the author kills him off. He’s one of the good guys...
That’s until he abides by Mark.. and becomes the “antagonist”. But as I’ve said before. I don’t think that Dark has any bad intentions.
@lineralangohr told me in the comments one one of my first HC/Theories that Dark may not have any bad intentions, but he needs to play the part because that’s what Mark programmed it for. He can’t necessarily speak out of line. He has to PLAY the villain if he’s going to stay and be able to communicate with us.
And Mark definitely isn’t the hero, if anything, Mark is supposed to be the true villain, the PERFECT antagonist. He killed people, manipulated them to his will. He doesn’t obey physics. Whatever he wants basically happens. He’s a narcissist. He’s keeping everyone hostage, forcing them to live in a loop but in different scenarios. Forcing them to play parts that they don’t want to play, that they don’t abide to because it’s not the part they were originally supposed to play.
I don’t think that Dark or Mark are the heroes. I don’t think that Dark is the villain either though. I think he’s just a confused and manipulated character in all of this just wanting to be able to be free.
I think that we are the protagonist. I think we’re the hero. Mark leaves US to all of the decision making. Mark gives us the choices. We’re the one pushing the story forward, we’re the one giving it a meaning, and we’re the one that ends the story with the decision we made. Not Mark, not Dark, not Will.
I also don’t think Will really has any clue what’s going on. I seriously think Will is just having the time of his life no matter what he does. Will is just.. being Will. He’s just ignoring all the weirdness going on because that’s what he thinks is normal. He is batshit insane as well, so it would make sense that “normal” isn’t his vocabulary.
And Will DEFINITELY isn’t the villain either. Mark has explained that before. But I’ve thought long and hard about Dark being the villain, and I don’t think he necessarily is. He’s not the hero either, that’s for damn sure, but he’s not pure evil.
Remember who he came from. I don’t think we’d call Damien evil, so why should we call Dark that?
