The cottage was much too quiet for Rayla’s liking. Her lover, Y/n, was always making some kind of noise no matter what they were doing, so why was it so quiet? Rayla got up from her spot on the sofa to look around the small home she shared to find her missing Y/n. Rayla’s worry only grew as she found the house to be devoid of Y/n. ‘Maybe they went to the market?’ Rayla thought as she put on her shoes to find Y/n. She was barely out of the door when she heard a loud thump and a groan. Rayla’s head snapped to a small clump of trees that the noise originated from, half expecting to find an intruder. To her shock, it was her missing lover Y/n lying on the ground surrounded by leaves and broken branches. Rushing over to Y/n, Rayla is quick to pick them up and hurry back into their shared home. Setting them down on the sofa she was sitting just minutes prior, Rayla rushed to grab the first aid kit Y/n put together when they first moved in. First aid kit in hand, Rayla started to question Y/n, “what happened? Why were you in a tree?” Y/n let out a breathless laugh in response only to let out a small yelp when Rayla unknowingly pressed a bruise on their ribcage. “I’m okay, I’m okay, it's just a small bruise,” Y/n reassured the elf who looked at them worriedly. Rayla looked at Y/n pointedly and said, “here, let me see.” To which Y/n sighed and lifted their shirt to show Rayla the bruise. Y/n squirms around in their seat, not allowing Rayla to put the salve on their bruise. “Will you just hold still,” Rayla huffed in annoyance, moving to sit on their thighs in an attempt to stop the squirming. Y/n let out a squeak and stilled. Rayla flashed Y/n a smile and finished putting the salve on the bruise. After Rayla put away the salve, Y/n wrapped their arms around her and dragged her on top of them. “What are you doing, Y/n?” Rayla asked. The only response she garnered from Y/n was a hum of satisfaction.

Rayla hated that you made her feel like this- nervous and sweaty and tongue tied. This was a brand new feeling, she never learned how to deal with this kinda stuff! She kicked at the dirt with a groan. Ezran looked over at the elf in curiosity, “What’s wrong, Rayla?” She looked over to Ezran and then up at the sky. All was silent between the two, interrupted only by the sounds of you teaching Callum what you knew about magic. Rayla briefly looked over to you both and inhaled deeply through her nose. Ezran looked back and forth between Rayla, who was glaring at Callum, and the two magic users in confusion until his face lit up in realisation. “You like (Y/N) don’t you?! You gotta because why else would you be staring daggers at Callum!” Ezran exclaimed. Rayla shushed him but you and Callum noticed the slight commotion. You lightly jogged over to the camp and grabbed your water pouch, drinking deeply then wiping sweat off your forehead. “Everything okay here? What was Ezran saying, we couldn’t hear him too well,” you laughed sheepishly. Ezran slyly glanced at Rayla and opened his mouth to speak, “Oh hey (Y/N). Go and tell them!” Growing even more embarrassed, Rayla shook her head at the young prince. A silence fell over the two once more, the only sounds coming from the magic users. Right Rayla?” He nudged the elf nodding his head in your direction. Rayla nodded furiously, glad to have an explanation, and watched your eyes light up. “Oh, can I join? Please Rayla?” You asked/begged, staring hopefully at Rayla.

You clapped your hands, excited to watch the sun set with the elf. “Yeah that sounds kinda nice. Is it alright if I-“ Ezran stomped on Callum’s foot, cutting him off. “Hey Callum I need to talk to you here,” said the young prince. Callum scowled at his brother but sat down in compliance and waved you and Rayla off. You grabbed Rayla’s hand and started pulling her with you towards the cliff, unaware of the heart attack you were giving the elf. Rayla felt saddened when you plopped down near the cliff’s edge and let go of her hand. But she held her tongue and sat next to you. As the sun set, Rayla couldn’t take her eyes off of you; there was a gentle breeze tousling your (h/l) hair, the setting sun casting a warm golden glow on your face. She could feel herself fall even deeper in love with you. You glanced at the elf next to you, “Isn’t it beautiful Rayla?” She nodded dazedly in response, “Yes you are….” You felt your face warm at her words. When Rayla finally registered what she had said, she scrambled to her feet in panic, “I’m so sorry I don’t know what came over me! Just forget what-mmph!” You covered her mouth with your hand. “Thank you, Rayla. You’re cute, too,” you winked at the blushing elf in front of you, removing your hand and moving to head back to the camp. Before you could move too far, Rayla grabbed your hand and pulled you into her, hugging you tightly. You hugged back, enjoying the way she smelled like lavender and moon flowers. Rayla pulled back slightly to look at your face. “I, um, I really like you (Y/N). I like the way your eyes sparkle when you get excited about the littlest thing, I like the way you put others before yourself, I like-“ you cut off Rayla’s ramblings with a kiss, smiling when you felt Rayla reciprocate the affection. You broke the kiss, “I really like you too.” Rayla grinned at you and pulled you into her body tightly. She’d have to remember to thank Ezran later.

The rain was pouring down in sheets. You could barely see the oak tree outside the caves opening. But you needed to get more wood, even if it’s wet it’s better than nothing. The fire was getting low and Ezran needed to stay warm as possible; he was still recovering from falling through the ice for goodness sake! You wanted to get as much as possible quickly and your only options for help were Callum and Rayla. But Callum was sketching in his book(probably your mother), so Rayla was your only choice. Your cheeks warmed slightly by the prospect of gathering wood and being alone with the girl you love like.
You motioned for her to follow you. She followed you out into the rain, and you both ran to the tree near the cave to keep out of the rain. Rayla shook herself off lightly and you couldn’t help but stare. ‘How could someone be that beautiful?’ You think, mouth opened slightly in awe of the elf. Rayla caught you staring and felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment. Averting her gaze, she cleared her throat, “So… let’s get going, aye? The sooner we get done the better.” After receiving no answer from you, she turned her gaze back to your still frozen body. Embarrassed and slightly worried, Rayla waved her hand in front of your face, “Hey. Hey! (Y/N)! (Y/N) are you alright?” The movement caused you to blink and shake your head as you slowly processed her words. You looked down at your feet in slight embarrassment at being so wrapped up in your thoughts, your cheeks feeling warm.
Curiosity peaked, Rayla asks, “So… what were ya thinking about?” She clasped her hands behind her back and rocked back-and-forth on her heels, waiting for your answer. Your mouth opened slightly and closed as your mind scrambled to think of what to say. You couldn’t tell her that you were thinking about her and how beautiful she was and how much you…. Embarrassed by your own thoughts, and anxious to give Rayla an answer, you blurted out “I was thinking about kissing you right now!” Playing with your fingers, you peaked up at her to try and gauge her response. You were surprised to see that she froze up and a deep blush was settling across her cheeks and ears.
As Rayla tried to stutter out some sort of response, you felt your confidence rise. She had to like you, her response just screams that she likes you back…. right? Before your self doubt could destroy your newfound confidence, Rayla stopped her movements to take a deep breath in an effort to clear her mind. She looked at you with exasperation and warm affection twinkling in her eyes. “(Y/N)! I’m not kissing you in the rain! We’ll catch our death!” Rayla proclaimed. You playfully groaned at her “Where’s your sense of adventure?!” Rayla snorted “In the dry cave. Let’s get some wood quickly and if you’re good I’ll think about it.” Your eyes widened and you gave her a bright smile as you scrambled to get as much wood as you could carry. She laughed as she watched you, contentment and excitement coursing through her at the prospect of finally kissing you. Rayla chuckled at your yelp after leaves dumped water on you; oh yes, she was excited to go on a long journey with you.
