Day 2 and 3 down in NZ. We started off day 2 driving from Lake Tekapo to Mount Cook. It took us a few hours but may be the most beautiful drive ever. Literally every stop had amazing views. Lake Pukaki was turquoise blue from the glacier run off setting the base of Mount Cook to some epic views. Once we got to the base we decided to go on a 4 hour hike to Hooker Valley. The hike was pretty easy and not too strenuous however we did have to cross 3 suspension bridges about 100 yards each and 100 yards or more over the rushing water (Brandon was scared). We stopped often to take photos (and selfies) as you can see here. Once we got to the end of the trail we were met with Mount Cook and a lake full of icebergs - think Titantic just smaller. After our day of hiking we drove out a little ways to an epic parking lot (by this I mean some gravel off of the road) to park for the night and enjoy the views and stars! Once again the Milky Way was visible to the naked eye and Brandon took full advantage of it with some cool shots of it and ‘Blue’.
We woke up to our epic view of Mount Cook, made a quick breakfast, and hit the road to Wanaka. We took a few stops to take in the scenery and even detoured to look at the sheep and Clay Cliffs. Wanaka is an awesome town that sits at the base of a lake (also blue from glacier runoff) with mountains all around. We found a nice camp site (with unlimited wifi), hooked up the RV, took a quick shower, then hopped on the bikes to explore. We rode for 3 or 4 miles to the base of Mount Iron, which has some epic views of the city. This hike took us about 1 1/2 hours in total - 1 hour up and 30 minutes down, it was that steep! After a quick stop at a bar & grill for a pint and a grocery store run, we headed back to ‘Blue’ for dinner - Lamb chops, roasted brussels sprouts with bacon, and bread. We’re definitely not starving on this trip!
Tomorrow we load up for 2 days in Queenstown. Erin is really looking forward to this portion of the trip as we plan to tour wineries, MANY MANY WINERIES! We may also squeeze in a helicopter tour of the region too.
Until next time - Team Dub out!

Day 1 in New Zealand complete. We started the day off around 8:30 at Wilderness RV picking up ‘Blue’ our hotel on wheels for the next 10 days. After a quick safety video and orientation we were sent off with a waive and a ‘good luck’ from the locals. Our first stop - the supermarket - if we were going to be ‘roughing it’ for 10 days we needed some food to get us by. Once we were loaded up we headed west out of Christchurch for about 350km to Lake Tekapo. As we got close to the lake we were blown away - sitting surrounded by mountains - was this lake that was bluer than anything we had ever seen before. I can only imagine that this is due to the water coming from the glaciers on the mountains. After a stop at the famous Church of the Good Shepherd we drove up into the mountains for an afternoon bike ride. The views were stunning from everywhere - there literally wasn’t a bad view around. After our afternoon bike ride we drove down to the Holiday Park (aka RV campsite) where we hooked up and found a place to watch the sunset. Pictures literally don’t do this place justice - just amazing views all around. Once the sun set it was time to cook dinner, tonight’s menu consisted of lamb, potatoes, and salad (roughing it right?). After dinner was done and we washed all the dishes we stepped outside only to be blown away. There’s something to a place with zero light pollution. The number of stars was just epic - like who know there were that many stars in the sky! What was more amazing was the fact that the Milky Way was visible to the naked eye. Don’t believe me - just look at the photo - it looked like that - seriously! Day 1 was quite the success - awesome views, awesome sunset, awesome night sky, and we didn’t die driving on the wrong side of the road - now it’s time to hit the road - it’s 8:30am here and we’re off to Mount Cook (the highest point in NZ) for a day of hiking and probably more epic scenery.
Wish us luck! #drivingontheleft #newzealand #honeymooningsohard
Day two down and we must have walked 30 miles (I’m exaggerating 5 or so miles) today. We started the morning off by taking the ferry out to Manly, a nice beach town about 30 or so minutes from CBD. We walked the path from Manly over to Shelly beach and then climbed to the top to take the view in. After exploring a little more around Manly and having lunch we took the ferry back to CBD. Once we got back into town we strolled through the Royal Botanical Gardens and took in a view of the harbor from the famous Mrs Macquarie's Chair. By this point we were exhausted so we took an Uber (yes thank goodness they have Uber in Sydney) back to the hotel for a couple hours of rest. Since the weather was perfect we decided to walk ACROSS the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the other side to take some sunset and night photography of the harbor, bridge, and Opera House. Its Monday morning here in Sydney and we are about to go out and enjoy our final day here before we hop back over to New Zealand.
