I am not a huge fan of the sci-fi trope of humans as boring or special, which can be troublesome sometimes. Mostly I’d like if there was more of a pendulum effect instead of aliens being flabbergasted by us all the time or being condescending.

Sure, it’s fun when a tasty human snack is something very poisonous to aliens, but I wanna take that gag about species differences further! Rather than “har har, the Nonsensoleans can’t eat spicy peppers like us,” and leave it at that, show me the Nonsensoleans being aghast at the things humans eat willingly, but also the humans who found that amusing doing a double take when the Nonsensoleans find the ship’s extremely toxic cleaning supplies, remark on humans keeping “the spices” in weird places, and having a good old fashioned Nonsensolean barbecue, which is so poisonous smelling it is dangerous.

Aliens that are surprised and impressed by the temperature differences humans not only can withstand but willingly subject themselves to, but find subjecting themselves to levels of sensory deprivation humans would consider torture a useful mental exercise.

The “your species is so weird (admiring, slightly worried)” is so much better when it cuts every which way. Galactic community is full of freaks and nobody is 100% sure what everyone else can do.

I feel like people use the concept of Humans Are Weird to ignore and erase disabled people, turn them into inspiration porn, or have them be present, but remove basically all impacts of their disability with “uhhh there’s sci-fi tech and medical care!” and then again ignore all impacts of that tech and medical care. This is a problem in ALL sci-fi stuff, but it gets particularly egregious with this fandom.

“Humans are so weird they can survive so much lol” yeah sure. And they oftentimes become disabled. They become disabled. Severe or even mild injuries can and DO lead to permanent disabilities. Can you talk about that. Can you mention that even once. On my life, can you stop giving characters concussions and TBIs and then they just perfectly recover in record time. Or is acknowledging the possibility that anyone and everyone, including you, yes YOU, can become permanently disabled at any second of your life too scary? Is it too scary to acknowledge that we exist?

If you are not disabled you can still reblog and comment and whatever but be warned I have suspended you over a spike pit. Don’t say some weird shit. I have my hand on the lever watch out

Mangrove is such a rich kid that it's not even funny, (being a literal god)

But the problem is he's also an adult who's disowned by his father

And everything he had came from his dad, who was also physically and emotionally abusive

Mangrove was also born with and acquired via trauma, All three of Bipolar, BPD, and NPD

That's essentially the kind of person he is

And he constantly gets faced down by an angry forest boy who wants to punch him in the face

Which does nothing for his mental disorders nor his belief that everybody sucks and he's better than everybody bc if he's not then his dad is right about him
