Beltane Tips!

* Wear lots of green

* Have a bonfire and fill it with fragrant incense, flowers, and sacred woods

* Bake tiny colorful cookies (with flowers, if you can!) and offer them to your local fae

* The veil is the thinnest this time of year - the only other time it’s this thin is during Samhain. Venerate and honor the spirits, and guard against malicious ones with salt along your windowsills or doors

* Wash your face with the morning dew to fill yourself with beauty

* Eat sexually suggestive foods or aphrodisiacs

* Dance. Dance a LOT. Turn on some drum-heavy music and let loose. Do it alone in your room at night, if you have to. 

* Go talk to all your local plants and give them little offerings of water. Blessed water charged with a quartz crystal would be extra nice.

* Do a tarot reading for yourself (or have someone else do it for you). This is a wonderful time of year for divination!

* Buy flowers. Pick flowers. Wear flowers. BE FLOWERS.

* You don’t have to have sex to have a legitimate Beltane, but you can always show yourself some love if ya know what I mean *wink wink*

* This is a holiday of sensual pleasure. That doesn’t necessarily mean sex - it means really indulge your senses. Take a hot, luxurious bath. Dance until you work up a sweat. Eat foods that you love and crave. Smell the flowers, feel your bare feet in the grass, splash your face with fresh water. FEEL the world around you - the spirits are alive and active on Beltane! Engage your emotional, intuitive, sensual side and you might catch a glimpse of one or two.

* Reach out to friends you haven’t talked to in awhile. Strike up a friendly conversation. Celebrate friendship!

* Meditate with crystals that open your third-eye or specifically relate to the fairy or devic realms - chlorite phantom quartz, moss agate, rainforest jasper, green diopside, spirit quartz, azeztulite, most green crystals, prehnite, a rock you found someplace outdoors that feels charged with earth energy - you choose!

* Perform solitary spells for abundance, protection, fertility, romance, love, sex, and divination!

* Plant seeds and start a magickal garden. There are lots of plants you can grow indoors pretty easily that have magickal properties.

* Dedicate an altar to Flora, Cernunnos, Bes, Pan, Hera, etc - any deity you can think of who rules fertility, marriage, romance, and abundance!

Witch Tip

Treat yourself to a deep cleanse. Even if you don’t feel super gunky, even if you do light cleanses regularly, take a day to REALLY get in there and cleanse every nook and cranny of your space, your stuff, and yourself. Bask in the feeling of total energy cleanliness. Not only does it feel great afterwards, but it gets you more accustomed to how the energy feels in its purest form, which will make you more conscious of changes and differences later on.

Domestic Garden Witch: When Eggshells Grow

So maybe you’re a college witch with limited space and money, limited to the one window in your dorm. Or, maybe you’re a witch without extensive backyard space who wants to start up a magical garden. Perhaps you’re a kitchen witch who wants the freshest herbs right at her fingertips.

For many witches, having a garden seems to be a bit of a no-brainer. After all, plants and magic go hand-in-hand. Plus, when thinking of a witch, it’s hard not to think of a cottage in the woods with a little vegetable garden out front. Unfortunately for the majority of us, our cottage in the woods is a tiny flat, and our garden out front is a windowsill with limited space.

This is when it comes time to embrace your craftiness and bring your garden indoors! Not only does it place your garden in a convenient location, it also allows you to freshen the air, recycle what would otherwise harm the earth, and embrace your witchy green thumb!

Eggshells for the Garden Witch

The kitchen witch has eggshells piling up on the counter, dried and ready to be ground up for use in protection powders. The garden witch looks at these shells and thinks, “Oh! Fertilizer!”

But if you’re limited in space and have to keep your garden limited to your windowsill, you may find yourself looking at those eggshells and saying “Oh! New pottery!” Not only is creating an eggshell planter a very green practice, but it’s also creative and makes transplanting much easier if you end up having a larger garden later on!

The Container…

Simple enough, you just need mostly intact eggshells. In the picture above, the eggshells are kept in the carton, but I’ve seen eggshells set up decoratively, such as with this picture:

The core of this post is clearly the eggshells, but you can arrange them in whatever way saves space or is aesthetically pleasing!

Carefully fill the emptied eggshell with potting soil. Make an indent in the soil with your finger, and carefully add your seedling before adding a final layer of soil and watering. If you plan on keeping the plants in the eggshells instead of transplanting, you could also carefully poke holes in the bottom of the eggshells so that your plants don’t get over-watered.

How Can I Witch This?

Eggshells alone are extremely protective, and providing your plants with that energy is beneficial. Around Ostara, use died eggshells! Not only will the shells have protective energy, but you’ll be able to use color correspondences and whatever symbols you used for the rite.

Draw symbols or runes of growth, protection, and strength on the shells in order to encourage your plant’s growth!

Bonus points is if you grow protective herbs in the eggshells!

What I thought witchcraft was: Aggressive rituals and chanting with friends. Must be in Coven. Witches everywhere. Scary shit.

What it turned out to be: Staring at the moon and constantly talking about her. Loving Zodiac signs. Talking to things most people can’t see. Being asked who I’m talking to. Being Questioned why I asked a field if I could enter. Why do you have so many crystals?? No witches within 300 kms. Finding someone who likes incense and Sage and wondering if they are in the broom closet or just like new age shit. Also, Candles.

Tarot Does Not Tell the Future

When getting a reading, please keep in mind that the cards do not expose what your future will be. 

The cards will give insight.

They will help you figure out your past, they will clarify your current situation. 

Tarot will show you your options/choices and what your path might look like if you make said choices and/or some changes. This all depends on what you seek from your reading. 

Don’t get mad at your spiritual worker, etc, when “the cards don’t tell the future”. 

Also, remember a tarot reading requires energy. It cannot be created from the nothing.

Remove negative people from your life

I don’t know whether I should call this banishment, a charm, or a spell or whatever, but here it is, its for removing old negative people from your life and removing them from your mind and not letting them effect you anymore.

Materials:

A small playdough container (can be bought at a dollar store)

Old pictures of you and said person (if you don’t have any printed you could just write their name on a piece of paper)

A lighter

A fire safe container (an old candle jar works)

Something to collect ashes

Black salt (mine was left over from a hex)

Black candle

Black string or ribbon

Reminder: Anything in this can be changed to better suit you

Steps:

First take the photos and burn just the person our of them, leave yourself and others untouched - chant: “with this flame you are burnt out of my life, you can no longer effect me, you no longer linger in my head, your negativity can no longer touch me”

Make sure nothing is still burning and that you’ve neatly collected all of your ashes. Next grab the playdough make an indent that looks like this:

*I chose black for protection and insulation of the negative energy, but you can use any color really*

Then pour the ashes into the playdough - chant:“ Once insealed in here you can no longer reach me, your negativity will be trapped”

Then grab your black salt

Sprinkle the black salt over the ashes - chant: “this salt protects me from you and your energy, you can no longer effect me”

Then light your black candle and drip wax on top of all of it to really seal it in

Once the wax is almost dry pull in the sides of the playdough until it looks like nothing’s in it

And finally put the lid on and tie it off with a ribbon - chant: “with this ribbon I tie your negative effects to this container, you are restrained, you cannot touch me”

And then you’re done! I don’t suggest barring it because I don’t like putting things into the earth that don’t belong, so I just put it in an old drawer with some old hexs that never gets opened. The less it’s messed with, the more effective it is.
