My god I love her.
I know people are gonna get salty af about this but by God she’s RIGHT.
When Brad Pitt did Fight Club, he was cutting weight for every single scene to maintain his physique at 155. I’ve you’ve ever cut weight, you know how horrible that must have been. He did it because they needed a “look”.
Changing Tatum said his Magic Mike body doesn’t last for more than five days. He starved down and dehydrated his already fit physique for a “look”.
The male soldiers on Spartacus: Blood and Sand were eating pretty much chicken and veggies for every meal to maintain a “look”.
Why is this such a big deal? Because all these characters are considered physical goals for men. These are actual unobtainable physical standards for men. Male body image issues get swept under the rug so often that some people don’t even think they exist.
As a guy with an ED, it’s really nice to hear people talking about men’s body image issues, but I kinda feel like saying men are just as objectified as women misses the point somewhat. Objectification has to do with much more than just unrealistic standards of beauty, and while both men and women in the acting business endure horrifying things to maintain the desired “look,” women are forced to do so while also experiencing a number of other injustices. Like, for example, I’m sure both Chris Evans and Scarlet Johansen were submitted to really concerning shit for Avengers, but only Scarlet received highly invasive questions about her body, and only Scarlet’s character was used as an interchangeable romance prop, and only Scarlet did so just to have her character written off by male fans as nothing more than eye candy.
I’m really not trying to say that men don’t experience huge body issues, hell i’ve lived them for the past 3 years, but we need to address that there is already a thoroughly ingrained system of prejudice in place working against women, and that means that they experience objectification often invisible at first glance. Support men and help us, but remember pain is not a competition, as others are in need of urgent care.
(Also, p.s., to those using this to bitch about feminism, feminists are the people pushing the hardest for men with body issues, so don’t fucking use me as a prop because you don’t like women organizing. Fuck you.)
also: women’s body standards are often set to fit the male gaze while men’s body standards are based on male power fantasies. meaning women are pressured to look a certain way so they can be pleasing to men while men are pressured to look a certain way so that they can look as powerful and masculine as possible. see the difference? i’m not saying male body standards are not a problem because they definitely are, but you can’t really say it’s the same as female body standards because they’re so different. you shouldn’t be comparing them. they are both feminist issues and they both need to be addressed but they should be addressed separately because there are different societal mindsets behind each of them

Seriously tho? You wanna say Natalie Dormer isn't a feminist? Seriously? Hella feminist. And men being over sexualized and objectified in the media is a feminist issue just as well

Oh my god I miss sex
Lately Ive been thinking a lot about myself. That sounds conceited and it probably is a little bit but I’m okay with it. I’ve been thinking about my appearance and my personality and my sexuality and my opinions and just everything and just all around I’ve been working on self acceptance. I’ve been becoming a lot happier and a lot more proud of myself that I have ever really been. But know I realize how amazing of a person I am and I’ve been thinking about petty shit that I’’ve been doing or saying and stuff and I’m really just going to stop it. Ive also been realizing that I put a lot more effort into friendships and relationships than the other person does almost always, so I’m gonna back off for just a little while and see who really is there for me and who really likes me, and the people that I've been flirting with if they keep flirting back or not when i stop caring so much. Im not gonna change myself or harden my heart or anything like that but I’m just gonna be a little less blegh. I like myself a lot right now and I’m at a really good place right now. So lets see how everything unfolds, shall we? <3
I’ve started watching the tv show Faking It, and its been making me think a lot about my own sexuality. There is a lot that a lot of people don't know about me and a lot that some people do. I’m not exactly sure about anything myself, but I am just a teenager so I don't think that I should know exactly everything that there is to know about myself. I hate labels, but they serve a purpose and some people need them to understand things, and when it comes to my sexuality, I don't think I’m the only one who’s a little confused. I identify as pansexual. But I don't really know, I’m not really sure. I haven't had sexual experiences with a lot of people or a lot of different genders or gender identities. I feel sometimes like that makes me a fraud for saying that I’m pansexual. But I know that I am attracted to males and females and non binary people and transgendered people and I feel like I have the capacity to love anyone that I could meet. I am confident that I’m at least polysexual but I identify as pansexual because thats what I feel like I really am. I am very happy and proud of my family for being how they are and open and accepting and everything. My sister is bisexual. So neither of my parents children are straight. They literally could not care less. I’ve never officially came out to my parents. I came out to my friends in secret but it didn't take long for most of my school to know that I’m not heterosexual. My parents didn't know anything at that point. But because my friends knew and none of them judged me, I felt like I could come out to m parents. But I’ve never really been a big fan of talking to people, and this was a part of me and I didn't feel like I should make any bigger a deal of it than something else about me like my hair color. So how I came out to my parents is that I acted like they already knew and nothing was different because nothing really was. I started pointing out the girls that I thought were cute, and the boys, and everyone else that I thought was cute and I didn't hold any part of me back. They took it how it was and it is amazing. After a while of that they both obviously knew I was wasn't straight but they didn't know what box to put me in so they'd ask, but they were and are always very supporting when they asked anything, and made sure I was comfortable with what we were talking about. I usually would talk to my mother about this kind of stuff but yesterday I went to dinner just me and my sister and my dad and I and we talked. It wasn't a serious conversation or anything, we were just talking like normal. We were just talking and then my sister brought up the topic of me being single and the people that were hitting on me and we just went with it and flowed with the conversation and we started talking about this guy and this girl who were both crushing on me and my dad just rolled right along with it. He was happy for me and proud of me and it was like nothing was wrong with me and I was okay. It wasn't that big of a deal or anything probably to anyone else but in that moment I really and truly felt good about myself and I felt proud of myself and I felt proud that my daddy was proud of me. I am just so happy that I have my friends and that I have my family and they all look after me and love me for who I am and I could not have asked for anything better.
Im afraid right now like a lot of other times. Im afraid of everything in its entirety. I’m scared hat everything will come apart all at once and oblivion will consume what it can and I will not be. Thats the worst, the thought of not being. Ive never not been. Ive never not felt. How will it feel to never feel anything. Im scared because I don't understand. I don't understand anything at all.
Sometimes, most times, I am nonexistant. A nothingness seeping from cracks in a seashell skull. If you find me in the emptiness would you try to separate us? To sift same from same and attempt to reach conclusion? I’ll warn you in a storm, the last breath of millions. Nothingness seeks me, and I refuse to hide.
