Every night bled into the next, a slow, suffocating cycle he couldnโt break. Noli would eat dinner in silence, barely tasting the food. Go to his room. Sit on the edge of the bed. And reach for the blade again.
Tonight was no different.
He moved through it like a ghost, his body moving on autopilot as they set the cold metal down on their nightstand. The blade gleamed faintly under the lamplight... a silent, patient witness to too many nights like this.
Noli washed their face, the water too cold, too sharp. It shocked them briefly into the present but only just. When they sat back on the bed, towel still draped around their neck, their eyes drifted, unbidden, to the photo.
It was always there, waiting for him: the image of him and 007n7 back in college, arms slung around each other, laughing at something long forgotten. Noli stared at it, feeling that familiar tightness in their chest. A dull, quiet ache ..not loud enough to cry over, but too deep to ignore. He's been trying over the few days to ignore the whispers. The strange visions they saw. Admittedly it was getting harder and harder to do so. His face remained still, like stone. But inside, something frayed a little more.
They blinked.
And the room flickered.
For a moment, the photo shifted... 007n7โs expression contorted into something broken, eyes dark and hollow, mouth twisted in a scream that made no sound. The walls of the room warped, crawling with veins of shadow like cracks in the air itself. Noli sucked in a sharp breath, his hand reaching instinctively for the blade on the nightstand.
But when he blinked again, it was gone. The photo was normal. The room was quiet. Still. They grabbed the picture frame, holding it in both hands, staring into it as if it might start talking back.
