You know the disappearing thing was just supposed to be my thing, right? Where were you? ~ gabe-is-no-longer-back-baby
I took a much needed break, brother. Went âoff the grid,â so to speak, and spent some time alone to unwind.
@gabe-is-no-longer-back-baby
Protect that Archangel goofball AJ he's a smol bean.
He is on the small side, indeed. You neednât worry, though; I take care of family, no matter where they came from.
"So your my uncle Raphael? You don't look evil." AJ said tilting his head.
âMy brothers always have had a way of making me sound awful.â Raphael looked down at the boy who claimed to be his nephew, surveying the familiar grace and power radiating off of him. âItâs fascinatingâyet still unsurprisingâto know they had a harder time than I recall following Fatherâs orders.â With a dismissive wave of his hand, he pursed his lips in a small smile. âWhich one might you be? Gabrielâs?â
Continued from here.
Raphael kept his eyes narrow, barely stifling his grimace at the story of his nephew, observing him without a word. The wings appeared out of the ordinaryânothing like Luciferâs other sonâs wingsâand significantly damaged. He allowed the boy to speak of his story, until he began to tug at his wings.
âDonât pick your feathers,â the archangel commanded without hesitation. The countless times he had to tell his younger brothers and sisters not to pluck their delicate wingsâwhen they still lived in Heavenâmade the reaction instinctive. Only after making the command did he realize he might startled the boy in front of him, so he pursed his lips. âTheyâre absolute monsters. Everything Iâve heard of these British Men of Letters is astoundingly disturbing. What do you have in the way of family, then, if my brothers donât know of your existence?â

Michael was having a hard time. Since the Cage he was⌠different. Quiet. Kind of childlike sometimes. He couldnât do things he used to do.
For now, he was sitting on a park bench, watching the birds. They could fly, just like himâŚ

âIâm always more than happy to help, Michael.â Raphael smiled a smile that almost felt solemn as he strained to hear his brotherâs voice behind him. But he was glad to be able to bring him a little happiness in any way he could. âWhat do you want to see first?â

A short chuckle escaped Raphaelâs lips at her comment. âSorry, I work in an emergency room. Sort of an everyday thing for me, I figure it canât be too different from work. And water is easier to clean than blood,â he muttered under his breath with a nervous smile, twisting the roll of duct tape around his wrist. She seemed a bit anxious, he observed, though he had to wonder if it related more to the frantic state in which she came over. Anyone would be anxious with a leaky pipe in their kitchen. Shaking his head, he double checked that the apartment keys were in his pocketâjust in caseâthen followed her next door to her place. âPleasure to meet you, Emily. Iâm Raphael Shurley, and Iâm more than happy to help. Two clueless folks are better than one, right?â A crooked smile flashed across his face as he approached the pipe in the kitchen. His eyes grazed across the visible part of the pipe in an attempt to find the leak, which quickly caught his eye, so he approached with squinted eyes as the water sprayed at him. âDoes duct tape actually hold water in? I mean- I guess weâll find out?â He reached back to pass the roll of duct tape to Emily while wrapping his towel around the pipe to contain the water.Â

Taking a couple steps back to examine his work once more after finishing with the tape, Raphael spun back around to face his neighbor, offering her a bright smile. âThat should hold up for a while. I canât imagine he hates you, but some apartments are more work than others. If you canât get him to come around, Iâm sure one of my brothers can replace the pipe for you.â He leaned back against the kitchen counter with one ankle crossed over the other and his arms propped on the countertop behind him. âI do work shifts. Lots of long nights and early mornings, and even more coffee and Red Bull. But I was just reading through a medical journal and listening to an old movie. It really wasnât a bother, I assure you.â
Her heart was doing that fluttering thing it always did when she saw him, and she could feel her cheeks growing warm. He was so charming and his smile drew her attention to his lips and she swallowed hard. âWel, still, thank you. If thereâs anything I can do to repay the favourâŚâ she let the thought trail off before she offered him anything specific just in case her brain to mouth filter failed her.
âDonât worry about it, Emily,â he reassured with a bright smile that spread from ear to ear. Helping people was his passionâhence his job as a doctorâand it was a nice change of pace to help the beautiful neighbor he doesnât see often enough. Her gaze wandered to his lips, and he took notice but only softened his expression in return. âMaybe... maybe I could have you over for a meal sometime? My apartment is not held together by duct tape, and my elder brother recently made some minor renovations to my kitchen. It would be nice to enjoy it with another person.â

âI have no idea but duct tape seems to fix most things soâŚâ she shrugged, acutely aware of how clueless she sounded.  âIâve left a couple of messages for the super, I just didnât know how to turn it off.â she frowned, holding the tape for him, trying not to focus on his clothes getting damp.  âI think half my apartment it held together with tape. I get plenty of promises for things to be fixed but it never happens and I donât like to make a fuss, I donât want to be any trouble. I just- I just want to work.â she sighed as she leaned against the doorframe and watched him.Â
âWell...â Raphael grabbed the end of the duct tape with his teeth to pull a strip off without releasing the towel around the pipe. He wrapped a long piece of tape around each side of the towel to hold it in place. When he stepped away, he took a moment to study the barebones job heâd done, and quickly realized it probably wouldnât hold without more tape. âIâm not entirely soaking wet, which is a start. Iâm sure I can help you get the landlord down here, though. Iâve been living here for years, so weâre on good terms.â With the back of his hand, he wiped a line of water dripping from his forehead then finished taping the towel in place. âI get it, though. Canât really get work done with the apartment falling apart at the seams, and the water can cause mold and mildew which is dangerous as hell.â

âIâm the son of Gabriel and Lucifer sir.â AJ said looking the other archangel over cautiously and curiously.
He honestly was preparing himself in case the other wanted to attack him. AJ wasnât very trusting the BMOL tortured and experimented on him for most of his life. He was only sixteen.
@the-forgotten-archangel
âBoth of them?â Raphael tilted his head to one side just a few degrees, looking the boy over once more. âLeave it to those two,â he muttered under his breath.
Though he couldnât help being curious as to how two of his brothers were the parents of this boy, a part of him had no desire to know. Whatever experimentation they screwed with for someone to be the child of two archangels, he didnât want to know. At least then, he couldnât be held accountable. âDo you have a name, then?â

A Cup of Sugar.
Standing there, in front of the door practically identical to her own, Emily paused. Maybe this wasnât such a good idea. Then again, there was currently water streaming from the pipe beneath her sink and this was an emergency. Gently knocking on the wood, part of her hoped he wouldnât be in. The guy who lived in the apartment next to hers was, in a word, gorgeous. Their paths seldom crossed and when they did she found herself tongue tied. The door opened and the first words that fell from her lips were, âYou look like a guy who owns duct tape.â
On one of Raphaelâs few days off from his busy job as an ER doctor, he found himself lounging on the sofa in his living room that barely fit the long legs tucked beneath his body. An old movie played on the television in the background while he scrolled through bookmarked medical articles on his laptop, oblivious to his surroundings. The sharp knocks on his door surprised him. Confused as to who would be visiting in the middle of the day, he closed the laptop and set it aside before opening the door. He hardly had time to consider why his neighbor would be standing at his door before her words hit him like a ton of bricks to the face. âI⌠do?â Now that wasnât what he expected. âWe need to circle back to that. I have an assortment of tape, but⌠context, perhaps?â
âOh, erm, burst pipe?â she looked up at him, her eyes wide. She knew she looked small and vulnerable with her wet shirt clinging to her and a hint of desperation in her eyes. This was, hands down, the scariest interaction sheâd ever had. Sheâd played out a million conversations between them in her mind. In each of them she had been witty and intriguing, impressing him easily. Absolutely none of these imagines interactions involved her tripping over her words while looking a little like a drowned rat.  âI- I just- I need to stop it for a while, while I, erm, find a way to, er, turn- turn it off and get the super here.â scrunching her nose a little as she wrang her hands, she shifted a nervously.Â
A burst pipe. That made much more sense than he expected, so he breathed out in relief. âWait here.â With one more look at the small and frazzled woman in his doorway, he spun around on his heels and marched towards a closet down the hallway across from his bedroom. Medical tape. Ace wrap. Bandages. God, he was such a doctor. He continued digging through the assortment of wraps and tapes in his closet before grabbing a fresh roll of duct tape. Before returning, he popped his head into his linen closet to grab a towel, then returned to the front door. âDo you need help? Iâm not, uh, exactly a handyman, but... it canât be too different from bandaging a broken leg?â

Raphaelâs brown eyes twinkled at the sweet comment from his brother, knowing full well how hard it must be for him to trust anyway. With one more gentle smile, he flapped his wings to fly them to a remote beach on the GalĂĄpagos Islands, taking a look around.
âHowâs this work? We can set upâor createâa small hut for the duration of our stay, and weâll be away from strangers.â
The Archangel looked around a bit, nowbthat they were there. It was nice here. Definitely warmer here than it had been on that park bench, which was a plus.
âA hut sounds niceâŚâ
Taking a moment just to enjoy their surroundings and the scenery, Raphael looked out at the perfect water crashing against the white sand. From the corner of his eye, he could see a small group of sea lions laying on the sand, so he motioned towards them for his brother.
âThere are also many iguanas nearby. And a beach with red sand. Father certainly did allow his creative freedom to run wild here.â While Michael looked at the animals, the younger archangel began work on creating a liveable hut for them, located just behind where the tides came up for safety.

âWhat do you say we take a trip, then?â He suggested slowly, turning his head to look at Michael.Â
Another moment passed before he spoke again. âDoesnât have to be very long. We could just sit on the beach or in forests and watch the birds.âÂ
Michael nodded a bit, looking down again. A trip with his brother could be nice.
âIâd like that. Can we go now?â
Raphael smiled over at his older brother, standing up slowly from the bench. âOf course. Letâs start with the Galapagos, yes?â
With one eyebrow raised at Michael, he cautiously reached out to touch his arm. âWeâll fly together. I donât want you getting lost since youâre going to be a bit rusty on flying.â
