  Writing, Baking, Candlestick Making. Well — maybe not candlestick making, but I should definitely try it! I welcome you to this blog of crafts ranging from Celtic myths to Nordic ones; of languages woven to the rhythm of songs, echoed through the veils of time, piercing our hearts with their grief, hope, and ultimate triumph. Here you will find chocolate covered strawberries and OC's interacting with Mr. Darcy and Boromir. Be mindful, though, of faeries popping their heads around corners and wily foxes peering through the hedgerows. Irish, Welsh, and the Gaelic (yes, the Scottish one) will all be making their appearances too, along with the stories of the Little Folk — be they fair or foul. Have fun!  BRIC-à-BRAC

Inktober #5: Arawn

Arawn was the king of the otherworld in Welsh mythology , and liked to go hunting with his white hounds. One night, Pwyll, the ruler of a close kingdom, stole his prey, so Arawn decided to exchange his soul with Pwyll for one year, so Pwyll could defeat an old Arawn’s ennemy. Pwyll succeded, and during this time Arawn ruled Pwyll’s kingdom so well than when he returned , he saw prosperity and riches everywhere. They became really good friends, and Arawn even offered some otherworldy pigs to his son .

The Pigeon Hole Cave near Cong Co Mayo. In Irish Mythology Cong is where “The Battle of Maigh Tuireadh” happens. in Folklore the weird sound of the water in the cave is supposed to be an echo of the Banshees scream.

The most famous folk stories about the cave is the Fairy Trout. Two lovers lived in an isolated spot by a lake nearby and one of them was thrown into the lake by soldiers and drowned. The grief stricken lover pined away until an unusual white trout was noticed in the waters in the Pigeon Hole Cave. Then the grieving lover turned into a trout so they could live together in the cave.

In Irish Mythology its the seat of the literary High King cult. Its where Lugh joins the Tuatha De Danann in the Book of Invasions and its where Fionn mac Cumhail defeats the fire breathing demon Aillen in the Boyhood deeds of Fionn. In the wisdom texts it had other names before it was called Teamhair na Rí. It was Fordruim when it was a pristine hazel forest, Druim Leith after the land was first ploughed, Druim Cain when men ruled there and Cathir Crofind when women ruled.
