🌀 Doctor Who: The Ghosts We Carry
Episode 1 — The Fog in Whitechapel
Part 1: The Sound Between Footsteps
--
EXT. WHITECHAPEL, LONDON – NIGHT – 1888
The fog swallowed the streetlights like a secret too ashamed to be told. Gas lamps hissed softly, as if warning each other to stay lit. Cobbled stones glistened under the cold breath of midnight.
Somewhere in the dark, something moved — not quickly, not slowly. Patiently.
A scream pierced the alley. Then silence. The kind of silence that comes not from peace... but from watching.

INT. TARDIS – SOME TIME LATER
The golden glow of the TARDIS interior cast warm halos on the steel and coral walls. The Doctor slammed a lever with casual confidence, spinning around the console like it owed him money.
“Where are we going?” Eliza asked from the threshold, arms crossed.
“You tell me,” the Doctor replied, fiddling with a switch. “It’s your first trip. Past, future, sideways. All yours.”
She stepped in fully now. “You trust me with that kind of power?”
“I trust you enough,” he said. Then paused. “Also, I lied. I already set the destination.”
She rolled her eyes. “Of course you did.”

EXT. WHITECHAPEL, LONDON – NIGHT
VWORP. VWORP. VWORP.
The TARDIS materialized in the mist like a secret being remembered.
The Doctor stepped out first, his leather coat catching the cold air like it belonged here.
“Ah. 1888. Dirty. Paranoid. Full of bad teeth and worse decisions. You’ll love it.”
Eliza followed, her shoes immediately regretting the cobblestones. “Charming. Smells like coal and regret.”
“Home sweet London,” he said with a grin, then grew quiet.
His tone shifted.
“There’s something wrong in the fog.”
Eliza shivered. “You mean the murders?”
He looked at her, eyes sharp.
“No. Something’s feeding off them.”

INT. ARCHIVE BASEMENT – EARLIER THAT WEEK
We flash back.
Eliza stands in a dusty archive, reading old coroners’ reports. She's alone. The pages tremble ever so slightly — as if something behind her is breathing on the air itself. She turns. Nothing there.
But a low hum begins. Faint. Mechanical.
The next page has a diagram of a victim’s organs — oddly cauterized. No known weapon. Tissue fusion. No burn marks.
Her eyes narrow. “This isn’t human.”
She closes the file.
Outside the window, something glows blue... just for a second.
---
EXT. TARDIS – NIGHT
Back in the present, Eliza looks at the Doctor as he examines the street.
“So what are we looking for?”
He crouches down, scanning the cobbles. “Footprints. Blood. Something the police missed.”
“And how do you know they missed it?”
He smiles, tapping his head. “Because they don’t have one of these.”
She stares at the sonic screwdriver. “It looks like a broken penlight.”
“It’s also a lockpick, a scanner, a sound system, a DNA sampler, and once I used it to toast bread. You’ll grow to love it.”
---
EXT. WHITECHAPEL – FOG DENSE
The mist grows thicker.
Shapes begin to move. Too fast. Too fluid. Like shadows that learned how to walk.
The Doctor stops mid-step.
Eliza: “What is it?”
The Doctor doesn’t answer immediately.
Then, quietly:
“There’s a frequency. Just beneath human hearing. The kind that hunts in waiting.”
Eliza’s breath catches.
The fog pulses once.
And just as suddenly — the sound vanishes.
They are alone.
Or... they were.
