Back in 2018, I lost my mother, far too young, and far too sudden. This was the darkest day of my life, and as many of you who have been following me for awhile know, this was just the beginning of many tragedies that would haunt my family even into this year. While I was on bereavement, my work sent this lily of the valley plant. It had a single bloom on it. I've managed to keep it alive since. Over the years it's shriveled and almost died a few times, but I was able to bring it back everytime. The one thing it has never done since is bloom. Here we are, over three years later, in the week of my baby sisters wedding, and what should appear, a bloom. Not just one either, there are a couple of others that started not long after this one budded last week. As I've said before, I'm not religious. I don't necessarily believe in an all powerful God or whatever. I am spiritual though. I do believe in something greater than ourselves, an energy that connects us beyond what we can see or understand. #giselleforprincess I know there's a lot of really awesome stuff from Disney + Day, but I found myself watching Enchanted over and over the most. With the sequel on the horizon, I find myself still wondering why Giselle isn't an official Disney princess and why the evil step-mother isn't in Disney's menagerie of villains. I know the movie is pretty much Disney poking fun of itself, but it has all the same troupes of a typical Disney princess film. The songs are catchy and fun, and the message of finding balance between positivity versus cynicism is clear. It even gives us a stereotypical "happily ever after," "prince charming" ending along side a "we'll see what happens" real world ending. All I know is I've loved this movie since it came out in 2007. Amy Adams is so expressive and really feels like a cartoon come to life. Patrick Dempsey plays cynical but kind perfectly, he basically just gets pulled into things he can't believe in. Susan Sarandon is awesome as the evil step-mother. I know she's just a combo of the evil queen and Maleficent, but she makes that character her own. I'm hoping "Disenchanted" will be able to hold onto this balance between reality and fantasy.
