“If you would like. It’s not the first time I’ve gotten hurt out here. I’ve been out here for around 18 years so cuts are expected. I just learned to ignore them.” He had various scars on his palms that had faded. He smiled softly towards her to show her his hand.
“It’s unusual to have a human here in Xadia, even more so a human witch.” He looked more amused than anything, looking calm and without any malice.
Talia frowned at that trying to decipher where Aster had gotten the scars either they were inflected by somebody else or they were from natural causes like he said. Being out in the open it’s bound to happen- even Talia’s own knees and legs were scratched and scraped up from passing through the forest. Where the branches had scratched her as she passed by.
“I’m just a tourist here,” Talia said bashfully as she held Aster’s hand, “Hold still,” She commanded as she pulled out her amulet under her tunic and whispered a spell. Talia felt a warm glow in her hands and watched the wound closed itself up.
It was currently night time and the stars were out so Aster did what he always did at night and stared up at them in awe and wonder. He knew every constellation by heart from the texts he had managed to purchase with his meager funds…Yeah, he knew it was a frivolous purchase in his case since he really should be saving money for food, clothes, blankets, and new supplies whenever he needed them… But he had a right to some amount of comfort even if oftentimes real comfort was out of the range of his pocket. Hell, the startouch elf hadn’t slept in a bed since he was 17 (around 18 years) and it was his last night before he turned 18 and had to leave the orphanage on his own with the clothes on his back, a blanket he took, and the deck of tarot cards that he’d been gifted for his 18th birthday.
Aster wasn’t angry at them of course even though he knew they wanted to be rid of him especially when he was such a troublesome young child years ago with his powers. He still didn’t really even know how to use magic, mainly ignoring it for the most part because he scared people when he had last used it. He sighed as he stared at the sky, wondering about where he came from, if he had parents, why they would abandon him. He was angry at them more than anything, just wanting to know why. Why did they set him up for this life? A life of wandering and never belonging anywhere with the moon, sun, and stars being his only company.
“Why?”he asked up at the cloudless, star-filled sky as tears filled his deep purple eyes that were actually turning more and more blue as time went. Eventually they would be a bright blue when he was older, blue like the hottest burning stars out in space. But for now he just stared up at the sky silently as tears trickled down his cheeks, not daring to make a sound lest his inner self scold him for crying like a fucking child over something so stupid. He pulled his knees close to his chest, just wishing to be held. He just wanted companionship really, a friend. Though what did friends do anyways? He’d never really had one for very long… He didn’t think he would know what to do. Aster didn’t want to be too clingy, nor did he want to be too distant seeming.
The elf took out his old, worn, and frankly ratty blanket from his bag and wrapped it around himself, finding the weight comforting. He put it up over his head as well so only his face stuck out. He was still angry and quite upset with his own thoughts and with the parents that just up and abandoned him. He wanted to scream, to break something, but restrained himself and just sat, sniffling faintly, not even bothering to wipe his eyes.
The night was clear and cloudless as the stars shone brightly in the sky. They were so bright that Talia didn’t bother carrying a lantern with her as she walked in the dark. It was a perfect evening to pick out lunar flowers to use for the underlying flu that’s been happening to the villagers back home. They were going to be used for medicine, pulverized and filtered into tea bags. As she was about to bend down to pick the flowers to put in her basket, the hearth witch heard a noise.
A hush noise sounded almost like crying but she couldn’t be sure. The sound sounded so lonely. So heartbreakingly lonely and so beautiful.
Talia swallowed hard debating if she should go to the source of the sound She was human after all, and she was in Xadia. Talia wanted to ignore the sobs as she and concentrating on picking the lunar flowers and make her way home but the sounds of the night felt like they were calling to her. Beckoning her to follow and Talia did just that.
With her stans guarded and pulling the evergreen hood of her traveling cloak over her head, she found the source of the sound. There was an elf, he looked young and about her age. He was a star touch elf no doubt the singers and ballads did not exaggerate on their beauty at all!
Talia knelt down by the elf crying softly. “Are you alright?” She asked gently and cautiously.
The elf looked at her with his beautiful violet colored eyes and sniffled. “I’d be lying if I said I was,”he replied in a soft voice, using the blanket he had to quickly wipe his face, causing it to come off of the top of his head and expose his light lilac colored pearl-like horns and his deep purple, almost black hair that looked like the night sky.
“I-I’m sorry if I bothered you at all or interrupted what you were doing… Sometimes it just gets to be a bit much really. My name is Aster by the way.” He held out a hand, one that had very pale fingers, ones that were the same color as his markings on his face. The skin of his palm would be rough since he’d lived and tried to survive outside in the wilderness.
He was quite young for a star touch elf, still having hardly any star-like freckles upon his body. He had a few on hands though and on his lower arms that twinkled softly. His skin would darken to a deep purple with age, and the stars would only increase in number upon his body. Though he was the type of star touch with black hair that looked like the night sky instead of pale white. He didn’t know if his hair color or if anything about him was common or uncommon among his particular breed since he’d never seen another star touch elf.
Talia smiled and took the elf- Aster’s hand and shook it. The poor boy looked to be half-starved and it pained her. She gazed at him with her brown eyes that were inviting and open, “You needn’t worry, I came down here to find somebody was hurt and I’m glad you weren’t. My name is Talia, are you lost by any chance?” She asked tilting her head at the radiant ethereal elf in front of her. He was young more so with tears welling up in his eyes. She wondered if Aster was lost or abandoned by someone.
“Nah…Not really lost, just wandering without a real home,”he replied, wincing a little when his hand was shaken (he did have a cut on his hand that was still semi-open). He didn’t normally like to touch people for various reasons though, and from that touch he was able to tell a lot about her, that she was human, a witch. Well, he wasn’t one to judge if a human was over here and practicing magic. Aster wiped his eyes with his free hand.
The elf was a little over 6 feet tall, 6′2, not including his horns when he stood up to his full height. “My name is Aster.”
“Nice to meet you Aster!” Talia replied feeling that he might be her first friend in Xadia. The boy was tall, about a head taller than her, which is to be expected that elves were much taller than humans. She was about to let go of his hand until she found a wound. It was semi-open but she could see the pink of his meat and the red gleam of blood. It didn’t look too deep but without proper treatment, the elf would most likely get an infection. “Goodness you’re hurt! Do you want me to bandage your hand?” She asked worriedly.
