Thinking of the fragile beauty all around us.  Do we truly cherish the delicate balance of nature?  She is called Mother Earth for a reason - she nurtures us so we have life, just as mothers do.  My heart is deeply saddened by the abuse of our beautiful planet at this time in our history as humans.  And, yet, I’m ever hopeful that there are those who are waking up to better possibilities of caring for our Earth while still being able to provide for ourselves the energy, water and food sources we need to survive.  We only shorten our own chance of survival if we don't honor the delicate balance around us. Without creative solutions, we decimate the future of our children and future generations - the future of animals, insects, plants - all living breathing creatures and eco-systems. We must love and care for everything and everyone around us in order to survive.

Start this very minute to see with “new eyes”.  

Start this very minute to love and nurture with a “new heart”.

Wrote this for my sweet dad who was my inspiration on every level.  He went to heaven over 30 years ago, but I miss him everyday.  He was a strong man with a gentle soul.  Theodore Lyonell Horton - died at a young age of 62 to leukemia and heart attack.  I love you, Daddy.

Humanity

I am a mother. I am a daughter. I am a wife. I am a child of God. I am a pianist and a composer.  Most of all, I am human.

Human.

We all make up humanity.  What does this mean? 

To feel each other’s feelings. To embrace the heart and pain of other people, of humanity, is to be bigger than human.

Bigger than human.

We each take a breath for life.  We all have a heart that makes our blood flow to keep us alive.  We each have a spirit that breathes through every fiber and cell of our being and that keeps us connected to the breath & life of all other human beings.

My husband shared with me that he walked out back of his restaurant the other day, and there was a homeless man sitting there cleaning his feet.  He would lick his fingers and wet his feet, then rub them with a sock or a cloth of some kind.  My husband said “hi” to him, and the gentleman started talking about how important it is to have clean feet because of all the walking people do, and especially how much walking he does.  My husband offered him some water, but he refused saying he was “ok”.  The man said, “It’s ok.  I have a place I take a shower about every two weeks.”  He then proceeded to tell my husband a litany of things he does to care for himself - drinks orange juice because it is good for his stomach, but doesn’t drink milk - not good for his stomach, etc.  And, then he left.

I told my husband how, perhaps, the gentleman just enjoyed having someone listen to him.  He is human.  He is one of us.

Spirit.  Love.  Touch.

Be human.

Dreams - where do they take us? Visions, experiences as real as my sitting and talking with you.  Sometimes, music I hear is angelic, symphonic, moving every fiber of my being in the innermost depths of my soul - some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard.  And, yet, it will slowly fade as I begin to wake.  Every once in awhile, I am able to catch the melody and maybe the harmonic patterns as I awake, quickly writing in my stupor before any coffee, still in a mild state of sleep.  These melodies are a gift - a very precious peek into realms of angels singing glorious songs.  I cherish these dreams, these glimpses.  How magnificently beautiful heaven must be.

New Beginnings

For the first time in over five years, I am beginning to feel focused once again in my creative spirit.  Why was I knocked to my knees in 2009 with my crippling autoimmune disease which affected my muscles and skin so disastrously?  Was it to deepen my understanding of suffering?  Was it about learning to truly “let go”?  I had fallen into a very deep place all this time, not knowing how I was to live each day after surviving.  And, I have accepted the fact that this “dis-ease” is a part of me for the rest of my life.  During my recovery, I have been playing music more and more, a little at a time as my body and muscles have grown stronger. Mostly I’ve been playing piano with my dear friend, Katherine Petrucci (singer), and with my church group, “With One Voice”.  What I have discovered is a new found devotion to God deep within my spirit, and a new calling to work in deeper levels as a music minister, continuing to play for my church Mass services, playing for grieving families, playing for wedding celebrations, and finding a new calling for composition once again.  For the first time in a very long time, I am feeling focused with purpose.  Perhaps the suffering brought me closer to my Lord in order to penetrate my heart with new insights of the human spirit.  I am convinced of this.  I am totally inspired.
