Witchcraft + depression =💥
Depression is a bad beast. I can assure you, I suffer from it. Days on end of feeling numb and unfocused plus zero motivation. It has an impact on every aspect of your life and even the most simple thing can be perceived as a huge obstacle.
If you’re a witch and you struggle with depression you’ve probably felt, at some point in your path, as if giving up your practice was the only option. Magic doesn’t work as it is supposed to, your tarot readings make no sense at all, and you wonder if you haven’t perhaps made the wrong choice in the first place by getting close to witchcraft.
Can you make spells when you’re depressed?
I remember this movie with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, where the two of them were sisters and witches. They were victim of a spell cast by an ancestor in a moment of profound sorrow that turned into a terrible hex. But it was just a movie. Even though I grew up thinking that witchcraft was something to avoid during periods of intense sadness, there isn’t any rule that prevents you from practicing.
On the contrary, witchcraft can be your safety net. After all, pain is a source of power. When I really feel down, I try my best to connect with my pain and turn it into energy that I can use in my spells.
Tips for depressed witches
🍃 Before casting a spell, sit in Lotus position and place a crystal in front of you. Lapis Lazuli helps you overcoming your depression state, but don’t forget the calming property of Rose Quartz that can also cleanse the negative energy surrounding you. Visualize your sad thoughts as they leave your mind and flow away, neutralized by the power of the crystals.
🍃 Sun charges you. Open the window, go outside, let the sun rays flood your room or bathe into them. If you Wiccan, say a prayer for the Horned God and thank him for the strength He gives you.
🍃 Take your shoes off and walk barefoot. If you have the chance to go to the beach, dip your feet into the sand. The direct contact with the soil can ground you. Close your eyes, feel the healing energy of earth going through your body, from the sole of your feet ‘til the tips of your fingers.
🍃 Cleanse your surrounding. I usually fill a bowl with water to which I add drops of essential oil and I use the to wash every surface in my room with a cloth. Think of the dust stationed on your shelves as cumulated crumbs of your negative energy. Blow it off from the top of your books, from the corners of your room. Burn some dry lavender when you’ve finished.
🍃 Drink chamomile tea. Chamomile has a relaxing and sedative property. When your brain is overworking and your heart beats faster than it should do, nothing can be more helping than taking a break and drink some tea. Burn a blue candle as you do it.
Consult professional help
If you have an ongoing mental health disorder, don’t underestimate the power of professional help. Witchcraft can be palliative, but in the end you’ll require medical attentions.

DIY Flower Pressing 🌸🌼
This is a super simple project for saving some springtime flowers, a bouquet you want don’t want to get rid of or for documenting herbs in your grimoire! It’s also cheap as you will have most of the items you need from nature or in your home. If you plan to harvest flowers, PLEASE do your research before you pick them. To the flowers!~
1. Gather your materials.
You will need scissors, tissue paper, flowers or herbs, a large book and heavy items to stack on top of the book (other books, weights, etc.) If you don’t have tissue paper, use toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, or culinary parchment paper. Pick too many flowers? Leave them as an offering or spruce up your altar!
2. Place the tissue paper in your book and arrange your flowers for pressing.
Please use a book you don’t mind getting ruined! Some of the color from the flowers may bleed onto the pages, especially if you are using highly pigmented flowers. I use an old textbook for flower pressing. Arrange your flowers so that they all have space. If you stack them while pressing, you will end up with wrinkles in your flowers.
3. Close the book, place heavy items on it and wait.
Close the book while making sure all of the flowers still have room. Stack other books or weights on the book to ensure a good press. Let the flowers press for seven days or longer. Leaves and petals are already relatively flat so they take about a week. However, bigger flowers take longer to flatten so leave them pressed for about three weeks.
Craft Ideas for your Pressed Flowers~
- Decoupage literally anything (offering dishes, trays, frames, etc.) - Make bookmarks - Framed wall art - Collage with other media - Cards - Floral candles - Decorate your book of shadows - Document your work with herbs
A how to make flower crowns with dandelions. Not sure if it will work on other flowers, but as long as the stalk/pedicel is long it should be alright O v O Also I hope it’s understandable ahah

Dance Magic
Dance Magic is one of the most pure forms of energy work. It is powerful. While performing a spell, one can not only feel the energy, but can smell, see, taste, and hear it as you move it around your body.
Using dancing as a tool for magic is ancient. The Aztecs and Mayans used it to draw rain into Mexico. The Celtics used it to sanctify their dead so they could transcend to the afterlife. The Aborigines use it to balance the body and connect with nature, as well as a portal to the Dreamtime.
As a Reiki Master, a privilege I do not take lightly, dance magic is a cornerstone in balancing my body and mind, as well as giving an ofrenda (Offering) of energy to the Earth, Directions, Spirits, and The Center (God, but as I like to call it, “The Omniplex”).
Witch tip for babes:
Having trouble with this type of magic? Want to try it but have no idea where to start? Good news! There’s no right way to do dance magic.
Music? Doesn’t matter
Style? Whatever is comfortable
Rythm? If you got it.
Need some inspiration? Watch the Netflix Original: The OA.
In this show, there is a dance called the “Movements”. These movements were derived from ancient ceremonial dances of the Aztecs and Maya, as well as a coagulation of a few other traditions. It is beautifully portrayed.
A warning:
Because of how powerful Dance Magic can be at it’s highest potential, I feel I must warn you of the potential effects.
Mindfulness: After a dance spell, you might enter an altered state. This could be extremely beneficial or extremely unwanted based on the current situation. Be mindful of this.
Equilibrium: Be sure to replace all energy you take from your environment (Unless from the Earth itself, space, The Center, or a designated energy source). Taking from house plants, for example, can damage their ability to thrive.
Overpowering: If you’re using Dance Magic to amplify a spell, be weary. You could run the potentiality of overpowering the spell, which could broaden the range of the spell’s effects. Bure sure your spell has set guidelines to follow. Make sure your intentions are extremely consistent while casting. Especially if you’re amplifying a spell with the Dance Magic of a group of people. EVERYONE must be on the same page, even the same paragraph if possible before the ceremony begins.

Inspired by The OA.
If you haven’t seen Netflix’s “The OA,” I highly suggest you watch it. Moderate spoilers ahead!
So basically, in The OA, the characters discover several different movements, used to unlock a celestial portal to another world. As I was watching the show, I realized how awesome dance witchcraft is! So I’m making this post.
Dancing to perform a spell is definitely not a new concept. Ancient peoples around the world had/have several dances to so things like bring rain, or a plentiful crop. I don’t want to step into cultural appropriation territory though, so I’m gonna talk about making your own dances!
If you follow any deities, research if any poses or movements are sacred to them.
You may want to incorporate gestures that symbolize animals.
Follow your own intuition. If you think you should place your hands over your neck during the dance, do it! If you believe in chakras/energy points, you could move according to those.
Some poses that represent different meanings include:
Raising your hands to the sky to call upon higher powers
Sweeping one leg around while standing on the other creates a symbolic barrier
Prying your hands/wrists apart as if breaking a rope that was tying them together can represent breaking free of boundaries
Crouching and then rising up (simultaneously doing hand movements is optional) can symbolize drawing power into yourself
Thrusting your hands away from you can be used to push things away from you or your life
I hope this was helpful! Feel free to reblog and add other movements and their meanings!
