Bob
Big. Brown. Fluffy. I swear hes a Maine Coon. He wandered onto my property a few weeks ago. He didn't look very hungry, or lost, or like he even had a care in the world. He looked like he owned the place, prancing about it all regal like. A king over his dominion.
He perched himself upon my porch rail and just looked at me. I felt like he was judging me, the way he narrowed his eyes, crouching down on the rail for a better look. Eventually, he grew uninterested in my presence and made a small circle around his position on the rail before hopping down.
There on the porch floor he sprawled himself out, soaking up the warm rays of the sun. It shimmered off his fur, and his tail pat against the floor in contentment. He looked like quite the happy kitty.
Such a big brown boy he was, with nary a care. Every morning it was the same with him. He even ate the scraps I left for him on the porch at night. Mornings were spent leisurely sun basking, ignoring one another, and just being at peace with the world.
One day I took a book and a seat in the sun, intent on lazing away my morning with a bad romance. To my shock, the cat took offense to my book that day, and leapt up onto my lap. He was not a light thing, had to be 25 pounds at the very least. He kneaded my knees and stuck his tail under my nose and meowed. Even his meows were big for a cat. Like tiny roars. I had half a thought this were some hybrid of bobcat and house cat from his size and his voice.
Eventually, he turned in my lap, forced a nuzzle against my chin, and even bit a moment at my beard before twisting around again. Pet me, he demanded. So I did.
I scratched his ears and raked my nails over his back and to the base of his tail, causing him to stretch up on his toes with delight. His purrs were loud as well, like a rumbling engine. He was big all around. Nothing scared him. Not the shot of a gun or the roar of a truck. He was content in his kingdom, and nothing was going to deter him from his comfort in it.
He plopped himself down in my lap, ever purring as his tail ever patted, and I was finally able to go back to my book.
I don't know where he came from or why he was here of all places to be, but I enjoyed his company. Besides, I had been thinking of getting a cat recently.
I named him Bob.
He was practically the size of a small bobcat anyways.
