Wedding Rhyme OC/Ship Asks.

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.”

Originating in Lancashire, England, the rhyme represents tokens that bring good fortune, protection, and prosperity to the marriage. Each item carries specific symbolism: "something old" represents continuity; "something new" symbolizes optimism for the future; "something borrowed" brings good luck; and "something blue" represents love, purity, and fidelity.

Something Old: The past, legacy, roots, and what still lingers.

What is a possession from their past that your OC refuses to part with?  What does their lover or spouse think of this item?  Do they appreciate its significance to your OC?

What family or cultural tradition or belief has shaped your OC’s attitude to love and relationships the most?  Have they questioned or rejected this wisdom?  Or do they find comfort or purpose in this connection to their heritage?

What memories or information do they have regarding their parents’ relationship?  To what degree doe this influence their attitude to their own relationships?  How aware of this are they?

Reflection

Hello! I'm new to tumblr so please bear with me while I fumble around 😂 I really want to share my work with new people so I'm facing my fear and giving this a go. I'm currently really obsessed with Warframe and more specifically Eleanor ✨ I love her to bits and look forward to sharing my work of her with you 💕

Thank you for the idea! I decided to pose one of the first nights all three were together as it was the first bit of actual sleep Clídna had gotten in a very long time. Clídna doesn't really sleep and when she does her back is to a wall, hugging a sword, and curled up in a ball, very much sleeps in a way that ensures she's not surprised by anything due to the abuse suffered in the Iron Kingdom and the Empire's army. Clive and Jill make her feel safe enough that even when she attempted to stay awake her body prioritized sleep and to fall asleep in such a way that exposes her. Clive and Jill would wake up to find her like this and kept watch even if it would delay their plans.

So I actually have a commission done by ziorre that covers the second part of your ask! Its the first like recovered morning after taking down the Iron Kingdom while Clive is out taking care of Titan, which was very much a whole thing. But for Jill and Clídna it was very much the start of no longer having that trauma of the Iron Kingdom loom over them and moving forward.

Mutual pining is great, but you know what's even better? Mutual pining where they're both fully aware the feelings are requited, they just can't do anything about it for other reasons. Or maybe they technically could but they've had to choose not to, because of The Circumstances.

I'm curious how Sib reacted when meeting Umbra for the first time. How did the meeting go? And how did she feel when learning about his history and what Ballas had put him through?

And wondering if there are differences between Op and Drifter in how they feel about Umbra?

Oh there is a difference between them! Umbra for the longest time is their shared main frame not feeling overly comfortable with using other frames as it feels personally wrong to use them without their permission given that some part of the original person still exists even when a copy that was built (they understand how it technically isn't the same it just doesn't stop the feeling they get from it). There is also a bit of xiv crossover lore going on there (since wf just became a shard of that universe) in that Umbra is their soul twin (though neither know this its just something we the creator/audience and Roathe to a degree know) which I'll touch on. Apologies if this gets long.

The first time for Op Sib meeting Umbra was very much the same as in game, however there is a difference in that Sib wasn't experiencing the Umbral Courtyard moment with Ballas from a 3rd person POV (or Lotus POV) but was from Umbra's POV. See the thing is in xiv (spoilers for ShB and beyond) you find out that you were once someone else before the world was split into shards, Sib and Demos (my WoLs) were also one person before the Final Days, Azem simply split himself in two successfully that it was a whole soul and capable of equal power magic wise. Given this the two had the same soul still and both were sundered, so there is always a Sib shard and a Demos shard on every world out there. However, their souls though still yearn to merge once more to be one person. (end spoilers) Because of that it was Umbra that called out in such a way with such anguish that Sib's soul instinctively answered, but because its not known about the soul thing the moment was attributed to the Lotus. Once he was rebuilt and Op Sib attempted the transference he understandably rejected that whole idea, and while there was the whole "I'm going to kill you" happening once looking one another in the eye it became harder with curiosity taking over, which Op Sib sort of ruined by trying to transfer once more. Their memories are shared as this is the closest their souls will ever get to merging fully (in any universe and era) so much like she can see Umbra's memories, he can see hers (even ones she's forgotten). It honestly pissed her off and heartbroken (but more pissed) at seeing what happened to Umbra. She wasn't the biggest fan of Ballas to begin with but she didn't think anyone could be capable of such cruelty (at the time), even just hearing his thoughts on warframes and how they were made just piled onto that anger. On the flipside the reason why Umbra was much more willing to accept Op Sib was because he saw the memory of her being placed in a similar position (being forced to kill her brother while he was commandeered), he knew she'd understand (it would be later that he would find out Lotus hid those memories from her). It was after this that he would become her mainframe due to her compassion to him (I hc that his helmet never repaired itself and is simply wearing a cover that Op Sib made for him), their similar trauma, and the innate protectiveness that was felt. Umbra was also the warframe that she felt the most compatible with (at the time), in that they could move so seamlessly (very much like drifting from Pacific Rim) and still he very much had a mind of his own so if he needed to he could take over. Their connection is very deep and ingrained that he doesn't need to use words to communicate to Sib (both Op and Drifter).

Now Drifter was a different story in that she met Umbra during the New War and was the second time she had ever done some kind of transference, but it was also the first time she wasn't disassociated from the experience so it was...a lot coming at her. So much so that once it was done she was afraid of transference and would staunchly refuse for a long while until Whispers in the Wall (though that didn't stop Op from kind of forcing it upon her to get her more comfortable with the idea and feeling of it). Drifter still isn't comfortable with transference fully and Umbra is her mainframe (especially now post-TOP) due to their connection via their soul as the two communicate like Op and Umbra do (so she very much understands what Lyon means when he talks about how it was with him, Harrow, and Rell), and he makes her feel comfortable and of all the people in her life she trusts Umbra the most and most deeply. He feels like an older brother to her. His memories break her heart though once she has the time to process them and move through them slower after the New War and she becomes the president of the "Ballas Haters" club.

Both girls though love Umbra and he in turn loves them and will protect them to the death. And while Op Sib now has Uriel it doesn't stop the two of them from going out and doing some missions together now and then for old times sake. Op's relationship with Umbra more closely reflects that of Sib and Demos in ffxiv where its not best friends, nor a familial relationship, nor a romantic one, it just is. They get one another, they can predict what the other will do, they know how to best comfort the other (though this falls more on Demos and Umbra due to how new to their own life Sib's soul is), they're loyal to one another, know when to be against them, they are the same person and not at the same time and its just hard to describe as any one thing. Even when Op gains the memories of her brother back (and more of her family memories) it never crosses a father/daughter or brother/sister line, even though one would expect such a thing given the age difference.

Meanwhile Drifter is much more a familial relationship. There's still those same aspects as Op, but due to her being of a different timeline its not as deep (now if there was an Umbra from her timeline it would be that way but that's neither here nor there), and given that Drifter actually retained the memories of her brother including what eventually happened to him (she just actively represses the memories) is the reason she and Umbra feel more brother/sister like. Drifter only ended up in Duviri after hearing her brother go mad and eventually become a Void Angel since he was working hard to refuse the call their parents felt on that fateful day, as he was in a weird space where he wasn't her parent but given their age difference ended up being one to her in a way so it took a little longer for the latter to happen (think Nani and Lilo even before their parents died as they were more the distant type). So much of her craves and wants to cling on to those that make her feel safe and looked after, and Umbra proves again and again that he is that for her, he could tell how overwhelmed she was in the New War and took over when needed while sort of talking her through what to do, and did so many times over until she was comfortable enough to at least pilot him with little assistance, but any time she leaves him in battle (or outside places of safety) he's not far behind and has her back, he can't tell her stories like her brother could but he plays music for her that helps her sleep, she walks and stays with him in silence (or distracts with her talking of whatever comes to mind) when he's reliving too much of his past, she takes him out to have fun now and then (yes he's attended a few Hex pizza parties), just things one would do with a sibling.

From Umbra's perspective though he does see them more as his daughters than anything if you were to ask him. And part of him does wish he could be there for them more in that kind of capacity but that can't be the case and so he does what he can.

From a meta perspective though warframe universe is the closest that their souls will merge into one person and there are some effects from that, the most obvious one being Sib's eyes. Their original Azem was born with two different eye colors and it was this spare DNA that he was able to more successfully split himself in two with magic, so until the Sacrifice mission there isn't the subtle purple glow that she now has and is best seen in the dark. The other changes and effects being that their memories tend to merge and all three begin to have nightmares of their own traumas but also the memories etched onto their souls from when the world was whole. There is also the change in Umbra in that he no longer relives a single memory and has more thoughts of his own since the transference activates how their souls can repair the other, so he's slowly getting more of his old self back, it would take a long time for him to get to a protoframe level of sentience or even Stalker's, but its still a change for him that wouldn't have been possible had that call not been answered.
