Hello! Wanted to give you guys a heads up that I will be leaving for a trip on the day this posts! I’ll be gone a few days so posts will be on hold till im back. Thank you all for your likes and reblogs! Rojo will be happy and healthy under the care of my dad. When I get back Rojo will be out of quarantine and getting his dirt!
March 5th, look at this little gentleman!
Managed to catch him using his slate! This rock warms during the day when his heat lamp is on then releases that heat through the evening/night. Seeing him on it is a wonderful sign that he is exhibiting natural behaviors.
March 4th, worms worms worms! Only three worm.
This silly little beast wanted exactly THREE worm. Not four. This is perfectly fine as I’m glad he is eating with such vigor. Weighted his tiny self tonight, 15.8 grams of little sir.

One of the biggest challenges in reptile keeping is that reptiles tend to hide, a lot. It’s not uncommon for reptiles to hide for what seems like days on end. Many first time owners get worried when they can’t see their little friends. The majority of pet reptiles are prey animals, and you look like a predator to them. Them hiding is normal behavior. Not too worried that Rojo is hiding today! He should be out tomorrow for his feeding.
March 2nd, mother, I demand more worm. Why mother do you not give more worm?
Let’s talk a little about over feeding, a common issue in the reptile hobby.
It is so easy to over feed a reptile. Why? Because reptiles have a different metabolism than mammals.
They don’t need to eat daily, or even weekly! My corn snake eats every 14 days even if he begs for food much more often. His body doesn’t need to eat often but evolutionarily it’s smart to eat whenever you can if you are an ambush predator like a snake or lizard.
I can’t find any evidence that reptiles will feel full like humans do. This makes it easy to end up with an overweight reptile, something that’s just as unhealthy as being underweight. It’s our responsibility as caregivers to feed our reptiles only what they need to stay heathy, no matter how cute they look. 
March 1st, such a polite predator!
Rojo is getting the hang of being fed by the big pink creature! Little low on worms at the moment so I either had small worms or horking big ones. I went with three smaller worms and a beetle to be safe.

February 28th, holy mother of eyeballs!
Rojo is a nocturnal creature. His large eyes help him see in low light and find alll the tasty bugs. Once he is out of quarantine and on soil I believe he will spend much of his time in the dirt, watching and waiting for his next meal.

But here is your semi daily dose of little sir. I actually held him! He didn’t seem calm but he didn’t scramble either. There is no scientific evidence to suggest the lizards like Rojo actually enjoy human touch, they can learn to tolerate it but they don’t seek it out in the same way a dog or cat might. Reptiles don’t have social grooming behaviors common in animals that seek out touch. For this reason handling reptiles should be kept to a minimum. Rojo was held so I could assess his condition and overall health. He looks like a healthy little dude to my eye!
I forgot to que something for today! Aaa!
Thankfully today is feeding day you guys get it day of today! He is getting so so good at the tongs with worms, not so much with the beetles. So the larger bugs go in his bowl.
February 23rd, feeding day! Did a drop feed today. Found him doing his very best hiding 😂.
February 22nd, when I put this hide in i wasn’t sure if he would use it. It was originally for my leopard gecko but she got too big for it. But look at this tiny man in his tiny mushroom house!
February 21st, he is so stinking cute i can’t handle it!!!
This is the best look at him since he shed a few days ago. Looks like he got everything off!
February 20th, food time once more! Little sir was in a rather strange spot but he still ate his bugs for me!
He really is a silly beast. I love him so much.
While there isn’t a picture for today I want to share some about Rojo’s species and care, Underwoodisaurus milii, common name Thick tailed gecko or Barking gecko! Today, UVB
February 17th, not the best camera angle but he is eating so well! Some leopard geckos don’t like mealworm beetles and I wasn’t sure if barking geckos were the same. In the case of Rojo at least, he loves a good beetle!!

February 16th, out with the old and in with the new!
Rojo shed last night! I was interested to see that barking geckos dont eat their shed like leopard geckos. He seems to have placed all his trash in one corner with this spot also being his poo corner! Smart little dude!
