The Doctor's head bobbed side to side a few times as half a million thoughts ran amok.
"Oohhh, I wouldn't gloat. Per say." The Doctor let out a little squeak, "Buuuut as someone who's known the Master as long as I have - no offense, I'm sure you two get along brilliantly, in your own way - I ah... I can safely assume that yes, if you kill me or let me die the Master might be overjoyed for half a second before being a bit cross he missed it or didn't do it himself."
A quick little throat clear before the Doctor continued.
"Mind you, I know what that's like. Doesn't matter what I do, how many people I save, how many Universe ends I... end or how many planets I restore, fix, preserve... Someone's always mad about it. Because I didn't do enough; didn't save enough people. Didn't save the right people. Saved too many people. Got involved at all - The Timelords really hated that bit, getting involved at all. But you know? Just can't help myself. I just always try to do the right thing, eh? Even if it doesn't look like the right thing; I've had to save people before that many would argue I shouldn't have. Who knows how many of my own messes I've had to clean up now, or how many more I'll have in the future. BUT, that all said, if I know me, and I do... it's true; you help me, I call you great, boast about your potential - I do it to the Master all the time- maybe a person or two sees you differently if it gets out, who knows... but I won't ever forget. And, I will feel obligated to owe you something, a favor!" The Doctor nodded. "Or kindness, mercy, whatever you want to call it. Just. You know. Little bit of karma - now I'm not going to go do something bad, intentionally, or anything like that. But, you know. Just in case, say, oohhhh..... you're somewhere that's about to be destroyed but the Master has left you behind, I'd give you a lift to somewhere safer. You know. Somethin' like that."
The Doctor watched Dylan carefully, fidgeting slightly, trying not to look too hopeful. Maybe pretend there's something interesting about the foor; no, too dull. The ceiling? Also dull, ew, was that a cobweb? At least it was a perfectly normal sized cobweb. But if there ended up being anything bigger than that, PHWOO. Two problems, one day.
Then again that's usually how it goes, isn't it? Usually, but not always, hopefully Dylan counted as problem number two. The Doctor really wasn't in the mood for giant Spiders. Again.
