Well, first of all thank you Robin, I was wondering when I would get nominated and I am happy to say at least I got nominated in fabulous style. You make a very attractive bearded Superwoman it must be said :P
Sadly I won't be taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, at least not in the traditional sense.
I have always been a relatively donation happy person, I just don't feel the need to shout out about it, but now that I have been 'chosen' I feel I need to use this moment to highlight what I believe.
Firstly, I do think that the Ice Bucket Challenge is a fabulous way of raising awareness for a much deserved cause (albeit it originated in the states for one cause and now it has mutated into a number of variations).
And whilst although the countless videos hitting my Facebook stream constantly are at times hilarious, I feel that a large portion of society has neglected to concern themselves with the WHY and instead just want to take part in the 'new craze' thats sweeping the internet. Its something to brag about, I get it.
Don't get me wrong, there are a large number of people out there that HAVE taken part and HAVE donated, and thats superb (£40 million and counting I believe, though I'm not sure to what charities its all been divided up towards), bravo the british public.
However I don't feel a video of me pouring ice cold water helps anyone, as lets be honest, the only people who will see it are the people reading this message anyway, it doesn't really validate the cause as such, and there are so many other charities out there that resonate with me personally, and have effected people I love and care about so early, that instead of following suit, I just wanted to do something a bit different.
Please please PLEASE take the time to read the little fact/donation sheet I have taken time to make this morning (going to all the websites to get the information and reading about each cause has taken far more time than filling up a bucket I assure you), all of these charitable causes have received a donation / get a regular donation from me anyways as I have personal links to all of them, but I have also donated to Water Aid this morning in leu of my bucket.
If I can nominate EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU out there reading this to text to donate to just ONE of these charities if you haven't done so already, then we can really make a difference, which is what charity is all about.
And if you are lucky enough to be able to donate blood, please do so. Its much braver than dumping ice water over yourself, and you even get a cookie I have been told. WIN.
