“Looks like someone is in heat.” Your best friend, Hange, snaps you back into reality.
“What’s up with him? How dare he challenge me to something like that in front of the whole school?” you shout.
“Cool down, Y/N. Maybe he has a crush on you.”
“You’ll eventually have to become his girlfriend, you know. He’s not the type to back down, especially when it comes to studies,” Hange replies.
That’s true. Levi Ackerman—the heartthrob of the school, stoic, intellectual, and athletic. There’s nothing he can’t do. He’s the kind of guy every girl dreams of, and that same guy is smitten with you?
“Not possible. What the hell are you saying, Hange?”
He was your enemy. You hated him. It wasn’t just some usual high-school drama.
The scholarship you had studied so hard for? He won it.
The detention you got? Apparently, he was the one who talked back to you in the first place, but the teacher only saw you. Or maybe she simply turned a blind eye because who would punish a role model like him?
And then came Sports and Arts Day. The students with the highest number of points would be awarded the championship trophy.
Even though you had worked your ass off, the trophy looked ridiculously small in the hands of the volleyball team captain, Levi Ackerman.
Despite your hatred for him, Levi always had a soft spot for you. He would always stand up for you whenever someone else bothered you. You had even caught him getting annoyed when another guy sat next to you. And whenever you took a break from class, he’d text you to check on you.
“All of this must be some kind of game to him. And I’m not someone who’s going to put up with his antics. I’m not his pet.”
You and Hange rushed toward the boys’ locker room, determined to have a face-to-face conversation with Levi. You made sure no one else was around before hiding behind one of the lockers.
There he was, fresh out of the shower, hair still damp, wet skin, his abs—chefs kiss, and a towel wrapped securely around his waist. He smelled like pepper mint and cedarwood.
He was completely unaware of your presence, casually drying his hair.
Enemy or not, you couldn’t deny that Levi was ridiculously good-looking, hot actually.
“Someone’s whipped,” Hange whispered.
Tbh, Levi had his cute moments. You couldn’t help feeling a strange little pang whenever other girls crowded around him, approaching him with love letters and candies. Maybe you had even started falling for him without realizing it.
But that wasn’t the point here.
You suddenly remembered that volleyball practice was over, and the locker room would be flooded with guys any moment now.
“Never mind. I’ll talk to him later.”
Just as you were about to leave, someone called your name.
A chill ran down your spine as you slowly turned around.
“Hello, Levi. Y/N, you guys have fun. I’ll be in class,” Hange said before practically sprinting away.
Before you could chase after her, Levi grabbed your wrist and pulled you toward the nearby bathroom as footsteps echoed down the hallway.
The footsteps grew louder.
You looked at Levi, irritated. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Saving you from explaining why you were hiding in the boys’ locker room.”
“Then what were you doing?”
You opened your mouth, but nothing came out.
His lips curled into the faintest smirk.
“Don't get cocky, Ackerman. I came here to talk about our bet.”
He leaned against the wall, looking far too amused. Levi stared at you for a moment before smirking.
“Don't worry. I haven't forgotten.”
“Good. Because when I win, you're going to regret challenging me.”
He stepped closer. His confidence unwavering, droplets of water dripping from his hair.
And that's how the stupidest bet of your life began.
