life has been.... life ig. Lo'ak and Kiri are in my life now. and omg, i love them!! they are so cute!! their cheeks are so soft! i keep kissing them so much so that Lo'ak slapped me once. it was more funny than painful tbh. me and neytiri have been hanging out more, we take walks, gather herbs for grandma... she is just so... peaceful. neytiri is so sure of herself, so confident, so... her. she is everything i wish my mom, well ex mom now ig, was. but then it really was not her fault, her husband, my dad, is .... i hate him.
my memories from my past life have fully come back now, and by Ewya i wish they didn't. i really wish i didn't. because now, Jake was dad. Jake is the enemy. i hate it! jake did nothing wrong!! but i just can't bare to be around him.
it is so annoying, he is a good man. but he has taken the role of my father so, i am just so uncomfortable.
and he noticed it to, you know, me pulling away. and being the good man he is, he tried. but when i am around him, my blood boils in anger, my stomach eats itself and i really wanna punch him. but i really really don't want to hurt him, because he is kind, he is nice and most of all, he loves his wife in a way my dad never did. he is a good man.
but a man nonetheless, so, he stopped trying, stopped reaching out, stopped being my father. and thus are relationship soured, slowly. we could never agree on anything, we could not stand each other and most of all, we fought. not bickering, we fought. almost into a brawl type of fighting. every. single. time.
then i grew a bit more, and we just avoided each other. until i turned 10 and needed to start training. we interacted then. it was polite, a little fun. he'd get a laugh or two out of me and then look at me as if i were a lost memory and i'd hold that stare for a beat, see him love me for a second before turning away to run with the other kids.
i am a god awful daughter, and a shittier Na'vi too. but i was me. and one thing about me is that, i am a coward. an filthy, lying coward. and i hate myself for it. i always will

Hey. This is a bit of a personal question so like feel free to like ignore this but..
I think I am aroace, but like I can't figure it out yet, I am like very confused. I was wondering if you could share how you figured it out?
Please?
Hey, don’t worry I’ll be more than happy to share my journey but just know it’s a spectrum and mine might sound completely different to how you feel and that’s ok.
For me being aromantic, I’ve always tried being in relationships and to me when I was younger, and when I say younger I mean around middle school, I viewed relationships as a game and as a competition. A lot of the times for me chasing someone was just fun and when I actually was dating them it wasn’t as interesting and I started to feel disgusted. A lot of people in middle school and high school had found someone that they actually liked and I felt lonely but every time I was with someone I just felt disgusted. Like I could handle fanfics and the idea of love but I hate when people actually see me in a romantic way because I genuinely don’t see them that way. What made me really decide was when I tried dating and I started talking to a guy and off the bat he was giving me a lot of affection which was nice but made me feel awkward and uncomfortable and I immediately ended things. My friend tried telling me I might just be into girls but once I started talking to a girl I felt more comfortable but still felt disgusted and also ended it with her. One thing I have noticed is my friendships are my strongest relationship and I would put them above any partner I wanted so when someone asked me what would be my dream partner I pretty much described a friend who isn’t just a friend. It’s just something beautiful to me about having a connection with someone that you don’t love romantically but you love them in a way that is more than just platonic and that’s the type of connection I could have with someone for the rest of my life.
For me being on the asexual spectrum, there are three different factors that made me realize I’m on the spectrum. One, being naked in front of someone is kind of weird. Like it can’t just be anyone it has to be someone I have full trust with and even then just having everything out while someone is there is just odd to me. Two, I had a very sexual relationship with two guy and it took a lot for me to get comfortable. This might be tmi but I was with this guy and we didn’t go all the way but I didn’t really like him touching me. Like I would be doing them a favor by giving them a blowjob or two but that was about it. For me it’s more about if I really connect with them and they want it, I’ll provide it for them. As well as the only way I feel comfortable with receiving pleasure with them would be us doing it on call but even then I didn’t really like it that much. Three, it looks repulsive watching people have sex. Like I get this thing where I see things and imagine myself in that setting and especially watching vids where it’s like one girl receiving makes me feel nasty. Like don’t get me wrong, do what you gotta do but my mind gives me like flashes of being in the same room and just imagining people looking at me lustfully genuinely gives me a huge ick.
As I’ve said before, being aroace is a spectrum and just because I feel this way doesn’t mean you’re gonna feel that way. I do really hope this helped because I know being aroace isn’t as spoken about compared to other identities but if you do have any questions feel free to ask me because I would love to help you find yourself.
Omg thnx! This really helps!
I am a bit confused because like I am ok with the idea of someone finding me attractive but I don't wanna be in a relationship with them, you know?
And also like I can tell is someone is attractive, but I am like not attracted to them. Does that make sense?
I am like in my last year of (the Indian version of) high school, and everyone around me has an ex or is in a relationship, I feel a bit left out, how did you deal with that?
Yeah you could still find someone attractive and vise versa, its just the whole romantic attraction aspect of things. Another thing that helped me actually realize I’m asexual is this one scene where Adrian Chase in peacemaker said “I’m not into sex because like its sex. I’m into sex because like a lot of people it’s an opportunity to bond.” And I bring this up cause not only does that show representation in media good but also you could be asexual while still being sexually active. It’s just having little to no sexual attraction towards people.
In school, I do feel jealous when everyone is showing off their partners and having fun in their romantic life but one thing that helps me is fantasizing because I’m in my own world where I could experience that without actually being bothered to be in a relationship as well as being a safe person that your friends can talk to. One of my friends has multiple people on her roster and honestly just giving her advice and hearing all of her experiences kind of gives me a placebo effect that makes me feel involved. This could be done by watching shows, reading fanfics, writing, whatever feels comfortable and keeps you invested.
Omg I never really thought about sex that way..
Thanks for sharing with me.
I do have another question tho
How do you deal with people who are like aroace phobic. Like for example a guy likes you and he is like very very insistent, and even after you say like no ia m not interested, I am aroace.. He still keeps pushing? Or a parent that thinks this is just a phase? Or someone who thinks you just need to find the one?
One thing you could do is really make it obvious he has no chance with you or you can tell him that you aren’t interested in a relationship at all. Like if you would prefer to do the first one and you could show him through body language or being nice while making sure you aren’t being too invested in conversations with him to keep yourself at a distance. If it’s like a classmate who is being persistent even after any of these I would suggest getting another person involved if it feels like he’s harassing you. I personally don’t talk about relationships with my parents but for now just keep conversations about love and relationships short. At this age, your parents think everything that isn’t normal to them could just be a phase and when you do get to that age where they will take it more seriously then sit them down and have a conversation explaining it to them if you feel comfortable enough to do it. And I’m not saying this will change their way of thinking, don’t worry I know my parents don’t even think that exists, but it might be worth a try. I usually just try to avoid people who don’t believe I have found the right one because their logic doesn’t make sense to me. It could go for anything like ‘oh you’re allergic to shellfish, you might’ve not found the right one’ which is plain stupid to me. I don’t know if my advice sounds very dismissive but personally I just tell the people who I genuinely care about and feel comfortable around and if they don’t respect my identity then it goes to show they wouldn’t respect other parts of yourself and you shouldn’t really hang around people like that.
Thank you so much!
This really helped!!!
I feel more confident in aligning myself with the aroace term now!!
This really really helped!
Again thank you!!!

The next few weeks passed quietly.
Training became part of your routine.
Every morning, you stood with your siblings on the shore while Tsireya explained the day's lesson. Some days were spent learning to dive beneath the reef, other days practicing with the ilu or swimming through narrow coral passages.
You were still far from the best.
But no one could say you weren't trying.
Every time you fell, you got back up.
Every time you failed, you tried again.
Aonung noticed.
He didn't mean to.
It simply... happened.
One morning, Tsireya gathered everyone together before the lesson.
She counted each person automatically.
"Neteyam... Lo'ak... Kiri... Tuk..."
She frowned.
"...Where's your sister?"
Lo'ak looked around.
"I don't know."
"I thought she was with you."
"No."
Tsireya looked toward the village.
"Maybe she's still with mother."
Aonung frowned before he could stop himself.
"She hasn't missed training in weeks."
Everyone looked at him.
He cleared his throat.
"...She usually gets here first."
Tsireya smiled slightly.
"You're right."
Aonung immediately regretted speaking.
Why had he noticed that?
Before anyone could say anything else, Jake appeared in the distance with you walking beside him.
Your arm was wrapped in fresh bandages.
Tsireya hurried over.
"What happened?"
You smiled awkwardly.
"I cut my hand gathering herbs yesterday."
"It's nothing serious."
Jake answered instead.
"Ronal wanted to make sure it healed properly before letting her train."
Tsireya nodded in understanding.
"I'm glad you're alright."
"So am I," Tuk whispered, hugging your arm carefully.
You laughed softly.
"I'm okay."
The lesson began shortly afterward.
But Aonung found himself glancing at the bandages more than once.
Every time you climbed onto your ilu, he watched to make sure your injured hand wasn't slipping.
It annoyed him.
Why was he paying attention?
During a short break, you struggled to tighten one of the straps because your wrapped hand couldn't grip properly.
Without thinking, Aonung walked over.
"Give it here."
You blinked.
"What?"
"The strap."
"...I can do it."
"No, you can't."
Before you could argue, he took the strap, tightened it correctly, then stepped back.
"There."
You stared at him.
"...Thank you."
He shrugged.
"You'll fall if it's loose."
He walked away before you could answer.
Tsireya had watched the entire exchange.
She smiled to herself but said nothing.
—
That evening, Aonung sat outside his family's marui sharpening a spear.
He suddenly realized something strange.
He could remember exactly where everyone had been standing during training.
Neteyam had been beside Tsireya.
Lo'ak had fallen into the water twice.
Kiri had found another strange sea creature.
Tuk had laughed almost the entire lesson.
And you...
You had smiled when your ilu finally obeyed you.
He frowned.
Why did he remember that?
He shook his head and returned to sharpening the spear.
"...Weird."
___"Why Does That Bother Me?"
A few days later, training ended earlier than usual.
The weather was calm, and Tsireya gave everyone the rest of the afternoon to relax.
Lo'ak immediately disappeared with Neteyam.
Kiri wandered off to explore the tide pools.
Tuk ran toward Jake.
You, meanwhile, sat near the edge of the beach, carefully sorting herbs Ronal had asked you to dry before tomorrow.
A young Metkayina hunter, about your age, walked over.
His name was Tarek. (note: just pretend it's a good name OKAY?)
He had spoken to you once or twice before while delivering herbs to Ronal.
He smiled politely.
"Need help?"
You looked up.
"If you don't mind."
He knelt beside you without hesitation.
"I know which ones dry faster."
"Oh?"
"My grandmother taught me."
You smiled.
"Then you're probably better at this than I am."
"I doubt that."
The two of you continued talking while separating the herbs.
Not loudly.
Just comfortably.
You laughed once after he accidentally confused two nearly identical plants.
"No," you said, smiling. "That one smells sweeter."
He laughed at himself.
"I'll let you teach me next time."
Neither of you noticed someone watching from farther down the beach.
Aonung.
He had been carrying fishing nets back toward the village when he looked over and froze.
You were laughing.
Not with your siblings.
Not with Tsireya.
With another boy.
He watched as Tarek brushed a few loose leaves away from your basket.
Then you thanked him with a smile.
Something unpleasant twisted in Aonung's chest.
He frowned.
What was that?
He tried walking away.
Instead, he found himself looking back.
Again.
And again.
Why was she smiling like that?
Why was that boy standing so close?
Why did he keep talking?
Tsireya walked beside her brother, immediately noticing where he was looking.
"You've been staring in the same direction for a while."
"I haven't."
"You have."
"I was looking at the beach."
"The beach?"
She followed his gaze.
"Oh."
She spotted you and Tarek talking.
"I see."
"You see what?"
Tsireya smiled innocently.
"Nothing."
Aonung folded his arms.
"They've been talking for a long time."
"So?"
"...So..."
He stopped.
Tsireya looked at him expectantly.
"...Nothing."
She raised an eyebrow.
"You don't sound convinced."
"I just think..."
He frowned.
"...Training ended a while ago."
"It did."
"Why is he still here?"
Tsireya couldn't hide her smile anymore.
"Maybe because he enjoys talking to her."
Aonung's expression darkened slightly.
"...Why?"
Tsireya looked at him in disbelief.
"Because she's kind."
"She's quiet."
"She's thoughtful."
"She listens."
"And she's easy to talk to."
Aonung stared at his sister.
"You make her sound perfect."
"I didn't say perfect."
She smiled knowingly.
"I said kind."
Aonung looked back toward the beach.
Tarek had made you laugh again.
He looked away almost immediately.
"...He's annoying."
Tsireya blinked.
"You've never even spoken to him."
"I don't need to."
She crossed her arms.
"No..."
A slow smile spread across her face.
"I think someone is jealous."
Aonung looked horrified.
"I am not."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Then why do you care who she's talking to?"
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Because he didn't have an answer.
He looked back toward the beach one last time.
You were still smiling.
For some reason...
He wished you were smiling at him instead.
That thought startled him more than anything else.
He quickly turned away and walked toward the village without another word.
Tsireya watched him leave before quietly laughing to herself.
"You've got it bad," she murmured.
Aonung, however, wasn't laughing.
For the first time in his life, he couldn't understand what was happening to him.
And somehow...
That bothered him more than seeing you with someone else.
What's being said here is related to YouTube drama and one of my followers here on tumblr nothing related to the story (I'm gonna curse sorry guys😭)
So, I want to point something out.
There's someone who was stealing Avatar videos from TikTok and reposting them on her account yt as if they were hers. As someone who's had my own content stolen before, I wasn't okay with that. So I exposed her. Since I've gotten a bit of an audience on YouTube, people saw my post and started calling her out.
Even though I specifically told everyone not to send her hate. I also made it clear that the edits on her account were her own work. The only thing I called out was the stolen TikTok videos.
Instead of addressing that, she focused on proving the edits were hers—which I had already acknowledged. She also denied stealing anything at first, but then quickly deleted the stolen videos. If she hadn't stolen them, why delete them so fast? Especially when the proof was right there.
After a long-ass argument, she made an apology post directed at me. I accepted it, said "okay," and deleted my post because I don't have anything personal against her.
Then someone from Tumblr—someone who reads my stories—commented on her post and called me toxic.
First of all, I don't even know your ass.
Second, instead of acting like a pussycat and talking shit behind my back, come to my comment section and say it to my face.
And another thing: how I act on Tumblr isn't how I act on TikTok or YouTube. On Tumblr, people are genuinely kind, leave compliments, and send amazing writing requests. That's completely different from dealing with people who call you a "dumb bitch" because you have a different opinion about an Avatar character, or people who steal content and then try to play the victim. Those are two completely different situations.
I hope this reaches you since you follow me. And if you think I'm so toxic, then do us both a favor and stop reading what I write.
The memes in the end are always my favorite part

Several weeks had passed since the Sullys arrived in Awa'atlu.
Training was still exhausting, but it no longer felt impossible.
You could finally stay on your ilu for more than a few seconds. You still fell—often enough for Lo'ak to tease you about it—but now you climbed back on without anyone telling you to.
Even Aonung had noticed.
He still made comments whenever you lost your balance, but they had become less cruel. Instead of trying to humiliate you, they sounded more like challenges.
"You leaned too far."
You looked over your shoulder while wringing seawater from your braid.
"I know."
"You hesitated."
"I know."
"You almost had it."
"...I know."
He rolled his eyes.
"Then stop saying 'I know' and do something about it."
You simply shrugged before climbing back onto your ilu.
Aonung watched you for a second longer than he intended before swimming after the others.
---
Later that afternoon, after training had ended, everyone made their way back toward the village.
Tsireya and Kiri walked ahead, talking quietly about different sea plants, while Lo'ak and Rotxo argued over who had fallen into the water more times.
You had wandered a little behind the group.
A woven basket hung from your arm, filled with herbs Ronal had asked you to collect on your way home.
You slowed near a cluster of flowering plants growing between the rocks, kneeling to inspect them.
Aonung noticed.
"What are you doing?"
Without looking up, you answered, "Looking."
"At rocks?"
"At herbs."
"They all look the same."
You plucked one of the leaves carefully.
"They don't."
Before Aonung could reply, a voice called from farther down the beach.
"There she is."
Three Metkayina teenagers, a little older than Aonung, approached.
One of them looked at you with obvious curiosity.
"So this is the forest girl everyone's talking about."
Another tilted his head.
"I thought they were exaggerating."
"They weren't."
His eyes lingered on your pink skin.
"I've never seen a Na'vi look like that."
You stiffened but kept your eyes on the herbs.
You had heard comments like that your entire life.
The third teenager laughed quietly.
"Are you sure she's even Na'vi?"
"Maybe the Sky People forgot to finish painting her."
The three of them laughed.
You tightened your grip on the basket.
It wasn't new.
It still hurt.
One of them took another step.
"No wonder she hides with the Tsahìk all day."
"I heard she can't even ride an ilu properly."
"Maybe she's better off back in the forest."
Before you could answer—
"Enough."
The single word cut through the laughter.
The three teenagers turned.
Aonung stood a few steps away, arms crossed.
His expression had completely changed.
The lazy amusement he usually wore was gone.
One of the boys raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
Aonung didn't move.
"I said enough."
"We're joking."
"So?"
"Since when do you care?"
"I don't."
He answered so quickly it almost sounded believable.
"They're guests."
One of the boys laughed.
"And?"
"And you're embarrassing yourselves."
The smile slowly disappeared from the boy's face.
"We're just having fun."
Aonung's voice became colder.
"Then find someone who enjoys your idea of fun."
The group exchanged confused looks.
This wasn't like him.
One of them smirked.
"Interesting."
"What?"
"You've spent too much time around the forest girl."
Aonung's ears twitched.
"Leave."
"And if we don't?"
For the first time, Aonung took a step forward.
"You'll find out."
Silence settled over the beach.
After a long moment, one of the teenagers scoffed.
"Whatever."
The three turned and walked away, muttering quietly to each other.
You watched them disappear before looking at Aonung.
"...You didn't have to do that."
He kept his eyes on the path ahead.
"They were annoying."
You smiled faintly.
"So are you."
"I know."
There was a brief silence before you spoke again.
"...Thank you."
Aonung shrugged as if it had meant nothing.
"They were wasting everyone's time."
You knew that wasn't the real reason.
But you didn't push him.
---
The next morning, Aonung was helping Tonowari repair fishing equipment near the docks.
Rotxo walked over carrying a coil of rope.
"I heard what happened yesterday."
Aonung didn't look up.
"What about it?"
"You defended her."
"I told three idiots to leave."
Rotxo grinned.
"You never tell people to leave."
"They were bothering a guest."
Rotxo raised an eyebrow.
"You've called her 'forest girl' every day since she arrived."
"So?"
"So... why are they not allowed to?"
Aonung tied another knot before answering.
"Because."
Rotxo waited.
"...Because what?"
Aonung finally looked at him.
"They don't know her."
Rotxo blinked.
"And you do?"
Aonung paused.
He thought about your quiet "thank you."
About how you always came back after falling off your ilu.
About the way you carried herbs for Ronal almost every afternoon.
About how you never complained, even when people stared.
"...More than they do."
Rotxo smiled to himself.
"You like her."
Aonung nearly dropped the rope.
"What?"
"You heard me."
"I do not."
Rotxo folded his arms.
"You defended her."
"I was stopping idiots."
"You noticed she was upset."
"I noticed they were loud."
"You walked over before she even said anything."
"They were in my way."
Rotxo laughed.
"You've got an excuse for everything."
Aonung shook his head.
"I don't love her."
Rotxo only smiled wider.
"I didn't say you loved her."
"..."
"I said you liked her."
Aonung opened his mouth to argue.
Nothing came out.
Because, for the first time...
He wasn't entirely sure Rotxo was wrong.
A drawing of mine for no reason

Batfam x Neglected!Dead!Reader
You had died in a cold room, alone and afraid.
Not heroically like the rest of your family would, or peacefully, or even surrounded by your family.
You died in a damp, cold basement of starvation and pneumonia after the low level kidnappers who’d taken you for ransom declared you a lost cause after all the familial contacts in your phone had left you on voicemail.
The last memory you remember of being alive was of coughing, of thinking you were so hungry, of telling yourself that you would wake up in just a bit, and then everything went black.
The GCPD found your body, what, two days later? You couldn’t really tell. Or be bothered. Your starving body was rotting on the floor while your soul stared at it as a ghost. It was natural, and perfectly reasonable, you assumed, to freak out.
The body had been unable to be identified.
Turns out, when a body rots in a damp basement, along with nearly a month of starvation and pneumonia and broken bones, without any person items that hadn’t been sold off, it was hard to tell who a body was related to.
And bodies with souls that haven’t moved on, as it turns out, rot much faster.
So you followed your body. You watched your own autopsy, the gentle dissection of your body, watching a specialist determine you were still a child, that you died of starvation and pneumonia and lingering blunt force trauma.
Your body was put into storage, a cold, dry coffin on a wall of cold, dry coffins, that left your soul feeling nothing but a cold that couldn’t be shaken.
You spent most of your days roaming the streets after that. You were anchored to these few sections of Gotham, the rich district, the precinct, and the few streets in between.
Dogs could see you. As could cats, squirrels, birds, most animals, interestingly enough.
Just not human beings.
You stayed at the manor most. Not because you enjoyed it, no.
But because every single day, you held out hope that maybe, just maybe, someone would check their phone for your messages, someone would ask where you were, someone would identify you, and you would be able to move on.
You watched as everyone went along with their lives, and whenever someone asked where you might be? Brushed off.
It was always the same 5 rotating excuses.
After school program.
Studying.
Asleep.
At a friend’s house.
Out, you’re old enough to take care of yourself.
You missed living. You missed being warm. You missed being able to feel and cry. You missed at least being slightly acknowledged when you were in the house.
Now the only living things who knew you existed in the manor were the crows in the trees, Ace, Titus, Alfred the Cat, Lucy, Batcow, and the bats in the cave.
That seemed to be it.
And then Duke came along.
You didn’t care for him.
Not at first.
It felt like he was there to replace you, to fill the unconscious void you left in the family that none of your family seemed to realize existed.
And then he saw the family pictures on the mantle for the first time.
“Hey, Tim? Who’s… that? In between Jason and Dick?”
Tim looked up from his maybe 4th coffee for the day, glancing at the photo Duke was staring at. You weren’t smiling in the photo. You were sitting in between Dick and Jason, smushed in between them, looking like you’d be anywhere else. Your clothes weren’t half as nice as the suits everyone else was wearing, and you had bags under your eyes. It was supposed to be a candid photo, everyone chatting and arguing and adjusting their clothing, while you… just stared at the camera with unfocused, tired eyes.
“Oh. That’s B’s kid. First biological one. 2 years older than Damien, I think.”
Duke blinked, staring at the photo, unintentionally ignoring Tim’s voice. He hadn’t seen anyone that looked anything at all like you these past few days.
“- never home anymore. I wouldn’t bother looking.”
“Please look for me.”
“Hey. You… heard that, right?”
“Heard what?”
“Nothing…”
Duke swore he was hearing voices. He’d been told over and over again that it was just the manor settling. Just someone getting home late from patrol. The manor was too safe and secure for anyone to come and live inside.
No one else seemed to notice it.
Well, besides the animals. They’d bark or whine or purr or moo at something that didn’t even seem to be there.
He’d caught both Titus and Ace, on multiple occasions, barking at absolutely nothing, and curled up, whining. Though the later was nearly exclusively Ace. Titus just barked.
But either way, Duke heard that one voice nearly every night. And, unfortunately, tonight was just like any other.
“I hate you, you know? I die and not even a day later my replacement moves in.”
And normally, Duke wouldnt talk back. He tired a few times, and it never worked. But tonight was different.
Midterms were about to start, and as a result, teachers at Gotham Academy had been piling on hesr more and more work to get grades in.
“I’m no one’s replacement. And I’m trying to study. Can you please just shut up for a few hours?”
The voice, thankfully, went silent for a moment, before, “Oh. Oh my god. You can hear me. How can you hear me?!”
That, in all honesty, wasn’t the reaction he was expecting. But the voice rambled on.
“No one’s even noticed I’m gone, no one can hear or see me, well besides Ace I think, so no human can see me, but either way, do you realize how huge this is for me?!”
Wait. What?
“Am I the first to be able to hear you?”
“Yes!”
“Wait. Were you the one on the photo on the mantle? The one that looked like…” Duke trailed off, remembering your features the best he could.
“Yes!” Duke could swear the owner of the voice seemed to be jumping for joy. “Thats me! That was… me.”
“Was?” He asked, cautiously, waiting for a reply, one that was instead met with silence, a slight creak in the slightly open door, and the ticking of the grandfather clock in the room.
It seems whoever was speaking to him… was gone.
Your cries were haunting Bruce. Nearly every night, for an entire month, he’d be tormented by the same sound from sundown til sunrise.
A child, crying, begging for their father to come save them.
Every hour, the cries got quieter. Fainter and fainter, changing from wails of pain and pleas to be let go to begs of mercy and to not be abandoned, and finally, around sunrise, soft, almost inaudible cries of forgiveness, with wet, painful coughs echoing during any seemingly empty stretches of sound.
He swore he knew who the voice belonged to, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
It wasn’t Duke or Damien’s, nor was it Cass or Stephanie’s, not Tim, Jason or Dick, not even Barbara’s.
The only person that left was you.
You, who he clearly remembered allowing to go to a friend’s house and stay the night for as long as you wanted.
You’d basically moved out, at this point, though Bruce figured that a call every once in a while would be nice.
And yeah, he did see your voicemail. All 30 of them. One per day, every day, at the exact same time. But your friend’s mother hadn’t called and you never got into any trouble, so you were most likely fine. Of course, he was slightly concerned when, after 31 days exactly, the voicemails stopped, but he’d check them later.
When Duke had asked at dinner how the person who haunted the house died, the rest of Bruce’s children, along with Bruce himself, of course, looked at the newest addition to their household in confusion.
Duke then clarified. “The person on the mantle in that one photo? The really dusty one in the left corner? Right in the middle?”
Damien clicked his tongue, saying your name like it was a curse. “The elder biological child? Why would you assume that they have died?”
Bruce nodded slowly. “Right, you two haven’t met in person yet. I’ll call them over tonight, you can see them tomorrow morning. They basically live at one of their friend’s houses.” Of course, Bruce would never admit he didn’t know the name of said friend.
It started with an M.
Mia? No.
Maia? Nope.
Ah, right! Mylanie!
“I swear I heard a voice though.”
“I’ll call tonight and you can meet them in the morning and see that they are, in fact, not dead, if it’ll help. Now. How long have the voices been going on?”
“Just since I saw the photo. But I swear, I-“
“Duke, that was nearly a week ago.” Tim spoke up, looking genuinely concerned. “You’ve been hearing what you think is a dead person’s voice for a week?”
And the conversation devolved from then, and Bruce ignored the sinking feeling in his gut that something was very, very wrong.
Jason knew a lot about death, speaking as someone, who, well, had been brutally murdered.
But even so, that didn’t ease the pain in his heart as he finally listened to those 31 days of voicemails after ignoring them for nearly a month.
Last time he’d seen you, you’d both argued. Or was it just him yelling at you while you tried to defend yourself, like a cornered, starving dog. He assumed you’d be fine. That 31 voicemails was you being dramatic and too apologetic and that you needed to toughen up.
And now he was hearing 31 days of you being starved and beaten and tortured, everything getting progressively worse and worse every day, until on the 31st day, the kidnappers simply… gave up. Said you’d die within 20 days max if you didn’t get help and hell, they gave the damn address.
Which Jason then searched up hoping in his heart that someone alive had been found there to see what he could find. And to his despair, there was something.
Multiple articles. Dated back weeks ago. All the same story.
UNKNOWN BODY FOUND AT KIDNAPPING SITE. BODY HAS YET BE TO IDENTIFIED BY CORONERS OR POLICE. IF ANY INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE, PLEASE ALERT THE GCPD.
Jason felt like he couldn’t breathe.
This was a joke.
It had to be.
You were supposed to be the one thing in his life that wasn’t touched by violence. You were the one kid is this godforsaken family that took care of yourself and cooked and did homework and got on the honor role instead of being a vigilante who got bruises and broken bones.
And now you were dead.
“Jason… I forgive you.”
Goddamn it. So Duke wasn’t crazy after all.
