QftQ spoilers below!
*The Magic Word*
The Holy Being: How the fuck do you keep finding me!?
Leigh: It’s actually pretty easy. Just follow all that drama, anger, and angst, and behold! We find you.
WARNING: THE BELOW IMAGES COMPRISE INCREDIBLY MAJOR SPOILERS FOR QUEST FOR THE QUEEN.
IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU READ THE ENTIRE BOOK BEFORE CLICKING THAT READ MORE. (IF YOU CLICK IT ANYWAY, THAT’S KIND OF ON YOU.)
Ripley’s Early Days as a Cadet
Ripley: So here's the tea-
Lee: For the last time, Cadet, it’s called a “mission report”.
Ripley: Do you want the tea or not?
i got these knockoff boots online and instead of the brand name on the tag they have the name of an apparently nonexistent martin scorsese movie??? what the fuck
THE ORIGINAL? ON MY DASH
this post led to a series of events that had martin scorsese himself reacting to his alleged movie goncharov and it has less than 400k notes almost 3 years later?
@hellsite-hall-of-fame
Today, on “Lily Chats About Spoilery Parts of QftQ” (spoilers below, of course):
You know, I don’t think we ever find out what went down in that room.
But given it’s actually B who’d been pretending to be Pan and traveling with Render, and given B was literally the last person to be in charge of the Division before everything blew up and is mythologized as the “Holy Being”, I choose to believe that in that sacred meeting room, B basically dropped the act and was like “okay, listen up, I am your boss and you will give me what I need to complete this quest or so help me all your heads are going on pikes”.
(Also, I know Pan’s line of dialogue probably isn’t meant to be exactly what he said, but it’s kinda funny to imagine B flubbing the act for a moment and forgetting he is supposed to be Pan right now, but luckily for him Render so thoroughly Does Not Care about what’s going on that he doesn’t notice anything up.)
So! Fun thing about Render and Leigh, I HC them both to get some style changes later in the book so they needed two designs. Artist commentary under the cut, and very mild spoilers but not very detailed and lacking any context so I think we’re good? Don’t quote me on that :P
*beat*
Random thought, but you know what song works really well for QftQ’s main villain?
(Spoilers below…ish. It’s more an “iykyk” thing but just in case :P)
MAJOR QFTQ SPOILERS BELOW!
B: It’s so weird how your gender dictates which shapes and textures of cloth you’re allowed to drape over your flesh prison.
Pan: Yes, the gender binary is stupid and arbitrary, can we please be quiet now.
B: Also, this whole makeup thing is suspect as hell. Why can’t anyone put pigment over their oral openings, why is that an issue?
Pan: Holy Being, I am trying to sleep—
Ty: Why do you have those bags under your eyes?
B, staring ahead blankly: There is no rest for the wicked.
Ty:
B:
Ripley: Cat videos. He stays up late to watch cat videos.
And here’s the other Knights of the Hexagonal Table! ^^ (Can you tell I’m bad at drawing weapons + got kinda bored of drawing similar-looking outfits five times :P)
No individual artist commentary here, since there isn’t much to talk about with this crew, but two things! One, everyone gets a unique weapon—sword privilege is reserved for the leader, that being Vivor or Render. Two, I decided to expand on the purple color coding of said leader by patterning the Knights after a rainbow; Veille is red, Geon is orange, Round is yellow, Chistory is green, and Charge is blue. With Vivor, they make a perfect six-color rainbow ^^
(The specific choice of who got what color may have been influenced by. Spoilery events :P)
So! Didja know there’s a Barnes & Noble exclusive version of Murdle Heist?
It’s got a sweet-looking unique cover and (apparently) a sneak peek of Letterinth, both of which are pretty neat. But more importantly for my purposes…
It’s got some new images to analyze.
So, as the resident overthinker—let us take a looksie!
You know what, screw it, have some HCs for the QftQ main trio for no reason other than I can. Did my best to avoid blatant spoilers, but some may be implied below—read on with caution!
Sir Render
He didn’t really get out much before the events of the book; his heroics were mostly confined to the queendom before being kicked out of the Hexagonal Table, and after, he mostly just drifted between villages getting himself banned from various taverns. If nothing else, the quest certainly helped him get out more :P
Has been an atheist pretty much his whole life. At first, he was just skeptical of the idea of a Holy Being or magic, then he decided the world was too cruel for there to ever be holiness, and after having his faith in humanity restored…well, I think y’all who’ve read the book can guess why he’s still less than keen on the Holy Being :P
Has a bit of a sweet tooth, hence why his favorite drink is mead (which comes from fermenting honey). Unlike certain others (who are going through it perpetually and thus really don’t care what the drink tastes like so long as it does its job), Render is a bit picky when it comes to his poison.
His line has something of a predisposition towards depression. Obviously, this being fantasy land, he has no knowledge of that :P
After the events of the book, Render decides to get into hobbies that aren’t going to worsen his health (he’s, uh, seen what that’s done and wants no part in it). Board games, embroidery, gardening, hell, he’s willing to give poetry a shot now. Anything that isn’t self-destruction. He isn’t going to go the way his ancestor did.
Queen Leigh
One of the youngest queens in the land’s history; her mother died when she was young (more on that below) and her father served as a regent until Leigh turned eighteen and was crowned.
Bit of a bookworm! Enjoys stories about what the world before the Great Divide was (supposedly) like especially. She’s more a reader than a researcher, admittedly, and prefers stories to historical fact.
Major tomboy in her youth, often dragging Render off on some adventure or other that usually ended with both of them bruised and covered in mud. Being the heiress and favored child, she wasn’t usually punished too severely for this. As a grown woman, she’s developed more feminine tastes—but she still enjoys adventure.
Was kiiiiind of a big sister bully to Pan when they were young? She didn’t go out of her way to torment him or anything, she just didn’t enjoy having him around and was never particularly subtle about that—and that made Render also not too thrilled about Pan’s existence. She did get over this eventually, but by then, Pan…was less than keen on being around her ^^;
After the events of the book, she built a little garden in honor of everyone who lost their lives over the course of it. She and Render care for it together. (On a lighter note, she is also trying to maintain the hairstyle the end of the book left her with. It’s slow going.)
Friar Pan
The youngest of the puzzle book blorbos at eighteen! (The second youngest are the original Bordergrams blorbos, who are twenty-two…why do the youngest characters suffer the most ;-;) Render and Leigh, for reference, are twenty-five, so there’s a seven-year age gap.
Asexual. For no reason other than I think it fits. Obviously, the label doesn’t exist in fantasy land :P
Like his sister, he’s into books—unlike her, he actually is more a researcher. He’s eternally curious about the world before the Great Divide and eagerly reads any document from that time he can get his hands on. If he ever got to meet the Holy Being themself, he’d have so many questions. [:)]
Funnily enough, Pan didn’t originally start in the Order as a particularly zealous believer; he joined pretty much solely to distinguish himself from his sister. He wound up getting into it because…well, they had old texts he liked XD
…ending on kind of a sad one: his mom, the previous queen, died in childbirth. Hence why he had a generally frosty reception—the queen’s death is awful enough, but if she’d had a daughter, at least the girl could’ve been a backup heir. For her to die for a son is simply a waste. Pan never really shook off the hostility from his father…or stopped being bothered by his family’s initial coldness.
Which kind of explains a lot.
“My dear, the cards foresee a great misfortune…should you continue your path of breaking off relationships after a month—”
“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
“…maybe.”
Art for @anna-the-hank’s Drawathon, featuring Inspector Irratino and Reader Amethyst! They’re cousins in my verse ^^ Amethyst’s design is a bit of a WIP, but I like what I’ve got so far ^^
^^ Lily, having a very fridge horror-y realization about QftQ
(MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH BORDERGRAMS BOOKS DOWN BELOW + DISCUSSIONS OF SUI IDEATION)
Messy notes for my personal B design. Kinda went very hard on the 2010s tumblr artstyle look for their initial design, since they’re so full of whimsy at the start. And then plot happens lol. It’s a bit messy, especially post book, so apologies for that. But hey, B is out now!
Since I'm on an insane drawing roll, as the kids call it, here's a drawing of Vampire Logico (as chosen by poll three million years ago) at the beach in honor of the beach installment coming out in the future ^^
