do you guys remember the magnus archives
one of my mutuals got death threats for saying martin slapping jon awake that one time was not abuse
multiple people were cancelled to the point of social ostracization for shipping two characters, just because jonny fucked up the timelines and one of them might have been a lot older. or not. they couldve been the same age
people called each other racist for being negative about a character who was not canonically a poc
people accused jonny sims of faking his height on twitter and it got so bad he had to tell them to stop on a stream
@astral-circuitry I FORGOT ABOUT THAT.... they were trying to cancel that man over absolutely everything. like the episode that was based on the grenfell tower fire and everyone decided it was problematic
some good ones from the notes
Arugula is some crap they found on the ground for real
thats because its plance. there are others as well

[louder than everyone] MAN I THINK IT DEPENDS!
the democratic modernity framework has helped me a lot with coming to terms with the importance of participating in what democratic structures exist under state control while also believing wholeheartedly that there is no such thing as a "democratic state."
essentially
"society" is understood as the complex, diverse total of people, communities, cultures, inherently connected to one another through overlapping relationships of both conflict and solidarity.
"democracy" is the self-governance of society through voluntary participation and collective consensus. society governs itself directly; people discuss issues and proposals directly with each other through communes, and come to collective decisions that shape their community's collective life. for larger-scale societies, democracy flows upwards from local communes to federations of communes through delegates, whose role is only to communicate the decisions of local communes, not to make decisions on their behalf. ideally, the system of federated direct democracy is built to explicitly include and facilitate the participation of women, queer people, various ethnic groups, disabled people, children and the elderly, etc. which make up society (which, again, is defined by its diversity).
states are best understood as, at their core, "economic monopol[ies] that [are] based on surplus product and value." they are centralized institutions that sit on top of society, and control what society produces (like food and other material goods).
societies can exist, thrive, and self-govern without states. but states cannot exist without societies to leech off of. the state exists in tension with society due to its extractive relationship with it. this is why states are defined by their use of "ideological tools, instruments of coercion, and the art of administration" in order to control society's worldview and justify the state's monopoly and power.
however, in practice the relationship between the state and society is complex. the pluralistic nature of society inevitably causes resistance to state oppression and these acts of resistance can force the state to make concessions in order to appease society. this is not the same as true liberation, but it is an important part of the dialectic relationship between the state and society/the commune. Ăcalan uses the narrative of "two rivers" to describe this relationship: state civilization is a force of centralization, patriarchy, exploitation, and hegemony, while democratic civilization is a force of pluralism, egalitarianism, liberation, and mutualism, and the back-and-forth conflict between these two rivers is the driving force of human history.
as a result, there can be no such thing as a "democratic state" as democracy means society governing itself, and state cannot be equated with society (equating the state with society is the basic idea of fascism). however, there can be "state plus democracy," where society has forced the state to establish some democratic structures which allows society some influence over governance. this is not truly democracy - society's self-governance is constrained institutionally, culturally, materially - but neither should we disregard them as a whole. when understood properly, in the context of the relationship between the state and democratic society, we can see these structures as hard-won sparks of democratic civilization that we need to fan into flames, rather than idealizing them as "democracy working as intended."
It's as good a theory for all this nonsense as anything else I've seen.
we need to normalize a tradition where nonpartnering aros are like "hey, i'm officially never getting married, please come to this party and give me whatever kitchenware you would have bought me for a wedding"
Rocky on the trip back to Erid registering that Grace has defaulted to using he/him for him for sexism reasons and that they don't actually have to go by he/him. xe does some research on the human computer and spends several weeks cycling through different pronoun sets. starts switching so frequently Grace becomes convinced sie has started being difficult on purpose. after a while Grace is like omg will you just pick one and stick with it. Rocky is like okay i have decided. rock/rocks. rockself. Grace like well i can't argue with that.
#see the hill that I will die on is that if Andy weir was cooler rockey would use either they them or xe xir#youâre telling me cool middle school teacher Ryland grace is unfamiliar with the concept of fun new genders#absolutely not. his students have taught him about singular they them and neopronouns
Grace trying to explain to Rocky that they can be whatever they want to be and presenting a whole list of different pronoun options and Rocky (who has no concept of gender) being like 'why would I care about any of this'
Rocky: which pronouns does Grace use question?
Grace: he/him
Rocky: okay. Rocky will use he/him too
Grace: okay but I feel like defaulting to he/him promotes a patriarchal kind of mindset and we should be more thoughtful about it
Rocky: okay so use the other standard pronouns
Grace: she/her?
Rocky: yeah
Grace: okay but that feels weird too
Rocky: why weird question
Grace:
Grace, later, lying awake: I never considered that Rocky might wanna be a she... Am I a bad person?
Rocky: Grace mix it up suggestion
Grace: I guess I could
Rocky: Rocky he/she/they/it
Grace: I don't know if you can use it
Rocky: why not question
Grace: it's just considered dehumanising?
Rocky:
Rocky, being a little shit: I choose it/its
Rocky: this conversation boring, let's go back to Grace tones
Grace: okay so you won't pick a pronoun but I have to pick a tonal inflection?
Rocky: my thing more important statement
Grace: okay fine can't you just your tones for me?
Rocky: but Grace not qualified engineer
Grace: well is there a schoolteacher tone?
Rocky: uhh no
Rocky: schoolteacher not
Rocky: schoolteacher not prestige profession statement
Grace:
Grace: WOW.

Someone will say "as a queer person in the heart of empire, my life is in danger every day" and you'll find out they're a developer for Amazon and live in San Francisco or Seattle or some shit, and then you'll meet a trans girl from Alva, OK who's like "Yeah, things are pretty good. AutoZone moved me to full-time."
Someone in a queer group in my current blue city said that they didn't like expressions of solidarity because it "diluted their oppression".
#That's what I mean when I say the foundation of feminism and queer community should not fixate on victimhood #Once you feel that our suffering is our shared experience an not our love then our suffering becomes vital to the culture #I don't want a culture where suffering is vital #I want a culture where love is celebrated #The suffering is an imposition not a prerequisite #And yeah I sure fucking hope our oppression is diluted bitch you WANT us freebasing the uncut shit???
pls support trans girls and trans women who like traditionally masculine things
no seriously please reblog this ive seen so many posts saying to support trans boys and trans men who like traditionally feminine things and those posts are good!! i love them!!
but i have never in my life seen a post saying to support masculine trans girls and trans women or trans girls and trans women who like traditionally masculine things and its really important to understand that showing support for trans women in any form is just as important as showing support for trans men so please, please reblog this.
support trans women and trans girls. support trans women and trans girls who like traditionally masculine things. trans women and trans girls who like traditionally masculine things are not any less valid than trans women and trans girls who donât!!

MAGA boomers SHOCKED by 20y/o commie speaking fluent hog
Hog 201 for anyone interested in trying this:
Bodily autonomy (like abortion, anti draft, etc) -> âThe government shouldnât be able to force anything on my body I donât want.â
Anti surveillance -> âI donât trust big government/big tech (big brother if youâre feeling frisky) with the ability to spy on me and my family.â
Immigration -> âNext to all of us immigrated at some point, I donât see why the elites get to decide whoâs allowed to be where. Whatâs to stop them coming for me?â
Climate Change -> âBig oil shouldnât get to determine whether or not I get to go places. I donât want to be dependent on some big business to survive.â
State Violence -> âI donât want the goddamn secret police breathing down my neck! I trust my community a whole hell of a lot more to help me than I do the state!â
The vast majority of conservatives think of themselves as underdogs being repressed by the government/the elite, and they value personal freedom (specifically their personal freedom, they donât care about other people). The will almost always agree with leftist points if you can find a way to blame the problem on their vague enemies (useful, since rich people are the root of most problems), and tie it back to their ability to say fuck everyone else. NEVER appeal to science, theory, logic, or human goodness. Make it seem as if you are a paranoid lunatic who trusts no one. They love it.
#you need to tailor your arguments to people's existing values and priorities if you want to convince them #the flip side is that it's every bit as easy to tailor conservative arguments to convince a leftist audience #so don't get smug #you're not immune to this either <- prev extremely true
