"Not this again..." Saturn grumbled to herself about being dropped like this.

Derek blinks up from his bed, that he's made a makeshift nest to hold himself and his new Hatchling plastic egg.

"!!! Child???" He has never seen Saturn, and his last text to her had gone unanswered. He's not putting two and two together, not yet.

"Child? No no, I'm Saturn, hi Derek" Saturn sat up on the best properly after being tossed in like a doll.

"Sorry, I hope I didn't scare you. "

"Saturn? Oh!" It had taken him a moment to remember Saturn, Ria's friend.

"You're fine. I've had some visitors, and my side doesn't hurt too much, so it's fine!" It's... Clearly not fine, based on the plastic egg alone.

"Oh you're fine that's uh good..." Saturn said looking at the clearly plastic egg. "So that's your baby?" She asked pointing at it.

"And why are you in a cage of all places?"

"It is! Or, will be, when it hatches. I can't wait!" Yeah, he's... Too loopy to notice the plastic still.

Poor guy.

"Hastur has issues and doesn't talk about them." Is the response about the cage. While true, not the whole picture.

"Oh congrats then" Saturn smiled pretty convincingly for a plastic egg.

She shrugged. "Well I can't disagree on that, he sure has issues. Did he put you here for your safety or something?"

Derek can't put his finger on why, but her appreciation of his egg isn't as nice as he thought it would be. Might just be a kid thing, though! (It is not. It is a plastic egg.)

"I mean, I got stabbed by a piece of cave saving our Hatchling from a stupid plan that placed her life on the line rather than. Waiting for a better, less terrible plan. You want to see the wound?"

Saturn still kept the smile as convincing as she could, not wishing to hurt a clearly high dragon.

"Yeah I heard what happened from however much Ria agreed to tell me and anons. No no, don't show it to me, you will mess up the bandages and get hurt" Saturn shook her head.

He hears Ria's name and his face gets that look parents tend to get when they're not sure if they ought to be proud of or disappointed in their child, and yet are feeling both equally.

"Did she tell you she used herself as bait?" He's already forgotten he had offered to show Saturn the stab wound. His brain has focused in on one (1) thing and he will be coherent on That Thing Only.

Saturn sighed pretty loudly and hid her face in her palms. "How much do I not know at this point? No no, she didn't tell me. In fact she hid the fact she got hurt even more after returning to Carcosa because she didn't want me to be mad or something I don't know"

Derek blinks, pondering.

Considering.

And, with a mental shrug, decides.

"She decided to use herself as bait to try and rescue the bit of my soul my original version of the king held onto. I'd be more upset about it if it didn't end up working in the end. So, she'd grounded for until she learns she's more important than that or until grad school."

Saturn laughed unexpectedly. "Grad school? Does she even go to school?"

She sighed and leaned back against the cage. "What about you? Why are you in a cage?"

"No. But that's why she's getting either option; it would be faster if she learned to value herself." HE nods, like this makes sense. Perhaps, in a way, it does; it will likely not stand the same way when he's not higher than a kite, at least.

"Ah. Hastur is both broody and doesn't know how to communicate when a person is a part of his hoard. I can get out whenever, it's fine." By the... lack of door leading out of the cage, he must be getting out a different way. Given that he hasn't left the bed since her arrival, perhaps this, too, is the drugs.

"Oh you can get out? How?" Saturn asked looking around the whole cage and finding no doorway or anything.

"... If I decide a wall isn't a wall, because Carcosa thrives on non-euclidean physics and operating like a half-assed game engine, I can no-clip through the wall like I'm going through a painting in one of the old Super Mario games."

That he has an answer is, in itself, astonishing. Except, the specificity means he's already left once.

Saturn had her mouth :0 in surprise. "Really?! That's so cool! I wish I could do that"

"It has something to do with Hastur gifting me some of his abilities when Ria was playing sacrifice. I think it might be how Hastur gets around within the halls..."

Saturn and her stupid curiosity looked so jealous. "Aww, that's so cool."

"Wait shouldn't he know that you can leave? Then why bother with it...? You know what, I'm going to stop trying to understand him, it just makes me more confused" She sighed.

"It is, isn't it?"

"You assume he thought past 'keep mate safe and away from others in the safest place he knows'?" He uses air quotes, wincing slightly when the arm movement pulls the stab wound.

"I'm an alternate universe Derek, Saturn. What I'm able to do seems to be a blind spot sometimes. It is what it is."

Saturn sat upright seeing him wince. "Please don't move too much, you will hurt yourself"

Saturn nodded at the last bit. "Yeah that's fair, multiverse rules has lots of plot holes. It is what it is.."

"It's fine." He handwaves the concern away. "A little pain never hurt anyone. Besides, the blood is inside; that's where it's supposed to be."

Saturn narrowed her eyes at Derek. "Uh huh, just a little bit of pain."

"It will only be a bit of pain until you tear something open again. And I don't know how to fix it and I can't get out of here and your mate will come and throw me off of a cliff."

"Only a little bit." He confirms. Because, to him, it is only a little bit of pain. Nothing to write home about.

"... I didn't pull it that badly. I'm not that daft, thank you." He says. Like a liar (not that he knows he's lying, mind you).

"... Hastur wouldn't throw you off of a cliff for it." No. Hastur would do something else, probably bloodier. This, at least, he's confident in.

"Uh huh, sure thing Derek. Please take care of yourself, regardless of what he does, don't get too much hurt. I do care about you, although I know you face to face for a maximum of ten minutes and this might seem like a weird statement." Saturn rambled again because of course she did.

"Oh no, he won't throw me off of a cliff, he will gut me alive. Which is worse now that I think about it. Well it's not like I would die, oh well." She shrugged.

"Aww, thank you." He is ignoring the earlier piece of her statement in order to favor that he is cared for. Clearly, the more important part, and not the stop hurting yourself part.

"... Yeah, he might do that. But, only if you'd made me move to do it. Not if you were just. There. You'll be fine." That this doesn't bother him is either because of the drugs or because he finds that part of his mate an upside, a positive.

Saturn smiled at the thank you and laughed under her breath.

"Torture uncertainty is always fun" She spoke sarcastically.

"I mean. It's Tuesday." Derek says with a shrug. It is... Shockingly unclear what that means. "Besides, a little pain never hurt anyone. You only need one kidney to live, anyways."

"How is Tuesday related to torture uncertainty...?" Saturn looked so confused.

Saturn slow blinked at Derek. "Derek, how many kidneys do you have? What do you mean a little torture is fine? Who's torturing you?"

"Tuesday's just a day." Is Derek's deadpan response to that. Which. Does not help him, in this case.

"Uh. Um. I plead the fifth?" How does he know that? America isn't a country in his world... No, he's pulled it from Hastur.

Saturn was slowly feeling like she herself was high while talking to Derek. She stared at him for a few seconds before speaking again. "Why do you know what plead the fifth is...?"

"So you are being tortured?"

"I plead the fifth." Is his response to how he knows the reference, but said more confidently this time.

And then the follow-up question registers.

His eyes lose focus - he's not present, not really. His body is here but his mind is elsewhere, elsewhen. Reliving.

Saturn shifted closer to Derek, tilting her head to look at him directly. She put her hand in front of his face and waved to get him out of the trance.

When that didn't work, she put her hand on Derek's shoulder lightly. "Hey, you good?"

Derek doesn't react to the hand waved in front of him. Far more alarming, he doesn't react to the words nor the touch to his shoulder.

Saturn was very concerned by now. She touched Derek's face trying to see if it would bring him back. Nope.

She put both her hands on his shoulder and gently shook him. "Derek? Hey....Derek!"

Derek - Derek flinches away from the shaking, eyes alert now but still not fully aware. (He's pulled his stitches in the flinch, not that he's noticed.)

"ᚾᛟ ᛗᛟᚱᛖ." He rasps out, eyes flicking everywhere before confusion takes over. Where was he again?

"ᚹᚺᛖᚱᛖ ᛁᛊ ᛊᛁᚱ?"

Saturn moved back slightly, giving him a bit of space. "Where is Sir..?" She repeated under her breath.

"Derek, hi, you're in Carcosa. See? Look around. I'm Saturn, remember?"
