Merci! Those are technically synonyms of year but it’s all about the context :

L’an :

when counting, without extra elements : ça fait trois ans

expresses a date : la mode en l’an 2000 c’était n’importe quoi

after “tous les” + expresses a habit : tous les ans je vais à paris

set expressions : en l’an de grâce 1207 (medieval movies)

L’année :

after an ordinal number : c’est la troisième année que j’y vais

after a quantifier (plusieurs, quelques, etc) : ça fait plusieurs années

about memories : je suis allée à barcelone l’année dernière

with an adjective : c’était une belle année

with a determiner (not le/la) : je te souhaite une année pleine d’amour

Etymologies are fun & Italian can be tricky, even when you think you have enough context, as in la spiaggia era isolata vs. la spiaggia era assolata. Case in point: isolato is not the same as assolato. Isolato means, as one would think, “isolated” (and derives from the word isola “island”), whereas assolato means simply “sunny”, and is a synonym of soleggiato (in fact both words derive from sole, i.e. “sun”).

Found a tutor for Italian ^^ we plan to meet via Skype 2-3 times per well!

...now to find someone for French as well. I’m hoping to meet for French 1-2 times per week.

This in addition to my penpals, hopefully I should see some results before August. I think I might take some kind of online exam to kinda jugde where my italian is this weekend and then take it again August 1 ☺️
