"No, donât be," Lily rushed out, trying to salvage the situation, though, to be honest, she didnât know why.Â
"I didnât mean toâI mean, I donâtâIâm sorry, Severance.â Sorry that sheâd ever given the minute impression that that was anything sheâd ever wanted. Sheâd heard the rumors spread about them, of course; kids were cruel. But, she never thought about Severance like that.Â
Severance felt her dark locks become heavier. She could not bring her gaze up to meet Lily, and she could not bring her ears to listen to the Gryffindor's hasty apology. A single tear threatened to spill onto her sallow cheek, and Severance felt a stirring of anxiousness, embarrassment, and suffocation.Â
She backed up, bumping into several of her peers as she moved. She still did not reach the green eyes of her once-friend; she had to leave.
