"This is quite disorienting."
"I…I suppose there’s truth in that as well."
"Well, the only thing we can look forward to is that this house can't go on forever."
"The Lake"
"I don’t think I’m smart enough for that. Of course I could hire someone…"
"Who am I kidding? If she did do something with them, I’m sure its been covered up. I’m sure I’ll never know."
"I hate that it's stayed a mystery to you for so long."
"You deserve answers. Let's do this. On a day when you and I are free, let's go down to the hall where they keep records and look for ourselves. Maybe we'll see something."
"The Lake"
"Oh, Mary. I wish I could know. Both ways seem likely. Do you think the Queen would…?"
"I don't know, Porter. I wish there was a way we could look into the case ourselves. As cold as it is."
"Boy…?" Jane asked, whipping around to look behind her back. She didn’t see anything, but that didn’t mean there hadn’t been anything at all. Boy… could Mary have meant… man? Was Jane being followed? Had… he found out something about her or where she went or what she was planning?
"Wha— what is it? What do you think you saw?" she asked quietly as she got to her feet, following the other woman.
"A little boy with dark hair and blue eyes. I've seen him before, and I-"
"Wait! Please wait!"
She saw him pause in front of a bush, looking back at her with calm eyes before ducking into the shrubbery and slipping beyond into Wonderland Park.
Mary turned back to Jane anxiously,
"Please tell me you saw him."
"The Lake"
"They were very good at hiding things. They never fought in front of me. Never."
"That being said, there were a few men in suits at the door a couple times. I didn’t think anything of it until my mother panicked when I answered the door and they were there. I don’t know what to make of it."
"Men in suits. Do you think they were officials of some sort? Or...or perhaps something underground like mobsters?"
You know, it’s not every day I meet a real life criminal.
"Criminal? Goodness, child, what makes you say that?"
"Everyone should make use of a disguise every once in a while."
"Oh, Wonderland Park would be perfect for a wedding!” Jane said with her first almost-smile of the afternoon. She’d decided long ago that she never wanted to be married, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t think about others’ weddings or weddings she may have to attend.
Jane shrugged and brushed a few more cutouts into the pile she’d accumulated. “Well, if you would like another positive influence over clothes fittings, I would be more than welcome to join you. I’ve heard of the Banks children, but I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting them. You make them sound completely different from the stories I’d heard.”
"I think you'd like them. Jane would certainly be delighted to meet you, considering you both share names." Mary briefly looked beyond Jane and stiffened in surprise.
"The boy." Her eyes darted back to Jane, still wide from shock, "Jane, dear, will you please come with me. I need... I need a second set of eyes." Swiftly she strode after the small figure that suddenly sped off and away.
"Admiral Boom was particularly loud this morning. I only partly heard what you said, I'm afraid."
"Aww come on..."
Belle awaited Mary’s verdict with excitement, she didn’t get the chance to recommend stuff for people that often, maybe perhaps at the shop, but that didn’t count. When Mary said that she liked it Isabelle smiled brightly.
"Aww that’s good, you deserve a little break" she smiled at Mary, "do they enjoy going to school?" she asked realizing that she had never asked Mary if part of her job involved making sure they did their homework. "Do you have any idea about what you are going to do with your free mornings?"
"They do. Although they both aren't particularly fond of talking about their day there. I'm working on persuading them to show me their school work when they get home. I think maybe this year it won't be like pulling teeth."
"I think I shall take some relaxing walks during my free time. Goodness knows, I always seem to be going about with a purpose. It would be nice to just meander."
"This is quite disorienting."
"True, but at least we know what we think the people we are around see us like."
"Maybe so. But you can't see what I see and I can't see what you see."
"This is quite disorienting."
"The trick mirrors always get me. They always reflect such silly images of people."
"Mirrors are odd in general. Just reminders that we'll never actually see ourselves. Just reflections or depictions."
"This is quite disorienting."
"Oh, um…."
"This looks like there’s a left turn…I think." She looks around at the other mirrors. "I think we could hold out our hands one out in front so we don’t crash into mirrors and the other to the side we stand on, that way we know if there’s a hall."
"I have no objections."
Mary took the other young woman's hand and kept a gloved hand on the mirrors. She paused momentarily in front of another mirror, that thinned and stretched them out.
"Goodness, we look silly."
"This is quite disorienting."
"They’re definitely interesting."
"Wait..."
"Which way gets us to the next area? I can't tell from all the reflections."
"Well, maybe it’s fun!"
"If you enjoy being scared, I suppose so."
"Best foot forward, then?"
"This is quite disorienting."
"I hope it’s lying to me."
"My hips are NOT that big."
"What's wrong with having larger hips?"
