Laurel and Felix had agreed to hang out for the day as everyone in their lives was currently busy with something or other, so around noon, Laurel was knocking on Felix’s door. For once, he had his wings out, wanting to stretch them and feeling safe enough to around another winged being.
Felix was just tidying up when Laurel knocked, wiping down one of the kitchen counters. He looks up at the sound, and puts the rag to the side before walking to the door and opening it, welcoming Laurel with a smile.
"Ey, Laurel. Wonderful to see you! C'mon in."
Laurel offers Felix a small smile and a nod in greeting as he steps in.
“Likewise. Thank you for having me. Your place looks as nice as ever, it astounds me how you seem to keep it so clean.”
"Of course! And thank you, I do my best. D'you want anything? I have a few kinds of teas, and a box of lemon tarts and raspberry tarts."
Felix offers, closing the door behind Laurel and glancing towards the kitchen.
Laurel hums in thought as he takes his shoes off by the door.
“Do you have earl grey?”
"I do, yes!"
Felix smiles, walking to the kitchen. He fills a kettle with water and puts it on the stove, also getting a mug and putting an earl grey tea bag in it.
"Do you want anything added? Sugar, honey, lemon?"
Laurel follows Felix to the kitchen, leaning against one of the counters as best he can. He doesn’t usually add anything, but honestly something sweet doesn’t sound too bad right now.
“A bit of honey wouldn’t be too bad. I have an odd sweet tooth right now.”
"Awesome!"
Felix gets a bottle of honey from one of the cabinets over the counter, and adds a bit to the cup. Once the kettle boils, he pours the water in and sets the cup aside to steep.
“Thank you, by the way. It’s been a while since I’ve had tea actually. Surprisingly, with the schools around going on break, more people are coming to the shop so it’s been a bit busy lately.”
"No problem! Ah, fair enough.. the bakery tends to get more busy over the summer, too."
Felix nods in understanding, chuckling softly.
“Ha, I imagine it would. How’s things been with you lately though around here?”
"I've been pretty well! Vizerxa's been bugging Nikolai and calling him 'uzecen'- 'little cat'. She came up with a whole rhyme just to bug him. Nikolai's been trying to get Saltator to join his shenanigans, and Vizerxa is generally more of a menace than you'd think. It's been lively. Not quite chaotic, but very lively."
Felix laughs, shaking his head in fond amusement.
Laurel smiles at that, finding the mental image amusing.
“Well, sounds like you have it going for you. Does seem chaotic though, if you, or Saltator, he seems pretty laid back from the times you’ve mentioned him, want some quiet, you’re welcome to stop by my place. I wouldn’t mind letting y’all in during closed hours just to chill.”
Laurel pauses, glancing away real quick before looking back at Felix.
“Though I will say that August is usually down in the store with me before and after I close, so you might get dragged into some ‘shenanigans’ there.”
"Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm sure Salta would too."
Felix chuckles softly, smiling. He hands the steeped cup of tea over to Laurel.
"Ah, no worries, I don't mind. I'm starting to think there needs to be a resident 'chaos guy' for it to feel like home."
He jokes.
Laurel happily takes the cup of tea, sipping at it already.
“It would seem that way. Ah, the humans seem to think this is a… sun and moon thing, I’ve heard others say? Or a cat and dog. It’s funny how that works.”
"I have heard jokes about every duo having one of each, and honestly I can see it... usually. I think you and I fit the same archetype, though."
Felix chuckles softly.
Laurel sips at his tea again, raising an eyebrow.
“Do we? I’ve never considered either of us a chaotic type. Unless there’s more of you to be seen?”
"Sorry, shoulda made myself more clear; think we both fit the same archetype as each other. Both 'cats', or the moon, or... wow, people have a lot of names for opposite duos. But anyways, we get along pretty well despite being pretty similar."

The book store was quite, as per usual, and Laurel didn’t have anything to do until a shipment comes in later that day, so he settled at the front desk/check out area to read Anastasia, The Last Grand Duchess, Russia, 1914. A moment of peace was quite the blessing right now.

Felix walks into the store, being mindful of his wings and tail as to not knock anything over by accident. He waves politely to Laurel, smiling, as he begins browsing the shelves. Today he's decided to look for both a book he'd like, and something for Vizerxa, just because.
Laurel smiles upon Felix’s arrival, offering a nod in response to his wave. He holds the page where he’s currently at in the book and partially closes it as he tilts his head.
“Welcome, is there anything I can help you with?”
"Hello! Ah... do you have any classical literature you'd recommend? A friend of mine really likes reading. Also looking for any fantasy books for myself."
Felix explains, walking closer to the front desk to converse. He chuckles and rubs the back of his neck.
"ah, sorry I don't have anything more specific... classic lit and fantasy feel vague."
“People have been vaguer, no worries. I can recommend some of the ones I’ve personally read and what’s popular, and then what’s similar to those.”
Laurel grabs the bookmark next to the cash register and puts that in his book where he was holding his place before setting it down in a shelf under/behind the counter. He bites the inside of his cheek for a second while he tries to recall a few books, tapping the counter for each one he mentions.
“I know Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky is really good, and I’ve heard a lot of positive regard for one of his other books, The Brothers Karamazov. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is a popular one. Animal Farm by George Orwell was a good read, and his book 1984 is quite famous as well. Dracula by Bram Stoker is a very popular classic, and I personally enjoy the book that inspired it, Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. For fantasy, the trilogy The Adventurers Guild by Nick Eliopulos and Zack Loran Clark is amazing, I’ve heard good things about Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, the trilogy Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan is quite lovely, and I heard good things about The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, which is a sequel to a book called The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, both by Mackenzi Lee, and something I’ve been meaning to pick up is The Legend of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong.”
Felix blinks, a bit suprised by how many books Laurel can name so easily. Though, it makes sense; he works at a book store after all.
"Oh, neat! hm.."
He glances to the side for a few moments, thinking.
"I'll get Crime and Punishment, and Carmilla. And The Adventures Guild trilogy!"
He decides with a smile.
“I’ve read all of those, lovely choices.”
Laurel smiles as he gets up, walking around and leading Felix to the side of the store.
“This is the classic literature section, the young adult and adult fantasy sections are on this side of the wall towards the back. If you need help finding anything, please let me know.”
Laurel inclines his head and then sets off back to his counter, where he picks his book back up.
"Awesome! Thank you for the help!"
Felix smiles, looking through the shelves and finding the books he's after. He returns to the counter, quite happy with his stack of books.
Laurel puts his book down once again and looks up at Felix with a small smile.
“I must say, the average customer does not typically leave with that many books. I do hope you enjoy them.”
Laurel takes the books to scan and bags them.
“That will be $123.”
"I mean, it's only fiii-"
Felix trails off at the price. That explains why not many people buy five books at once. He sighs and accepts his fate, pulling out his card and scanning it. Worth it. He's lucky Quoruvelm pays in silver coins, considering it seems to be valuable to earth nations and he can sell them when needed.
He easily cheers back up though.
"Well. That's fine. Thank you!"
Laurel tilts his head slightly at what Felix was about to say but paid no mind to it. He just nodded and handed Felix the bag of books.
“Of course. It’s usually pretty quiet here, so if you’d ever like to come back just to read as well, feel free to.”
"Awesome! I probably will, it's a good location, and you're pretty cool!"
Felix grins as he takes the bag, quite happy.
“Oh, thank you! You seem very likeminded yourself, and I hope this isn’t rude, but your wings are also quite lovely, they look very clean.”
"Thank you! It's not rude at all, I quite appreciate it!"
Felix stretches one wing, letting the somewhat iridescent blue-black feathers shimmer in the light.
"My fiancé loves helping me care for them, so they stay pretty clean all the time."
He chuckles affectionately.
Laurel stares a bit at the shimmer, his smile widening a tad bit at Felix’s explanation.
“That’s quite nice of them to do so. I do try to blend in more myself with my ability to do so, but I do admire clean wings, the shimmering is always so satisfying.”
Laurel’s wings unfurl from nowhere, dark grey and a bit dull looking, though not messy.
“I’ve been trying to make mine as presentable as possible.”
"It is, truly! Ah, that makes sense, and I agree. Clean wings feel a lot nicer, too."
Felix 'ooh's at Laurel's wings appearing, not knowing of many entities who can hide parts of themselves.
"Your wings are pretty too! I think they're nice."
“Thank you. I’ve been debating hiding them less, but I’m still on the fence about it.”
Laurel shrugs as he speaks, letting his wings stretch a little. Even if just alone, he does need to let them be free more, hiding them is the equivalent of stuffing himself into the most cramped space he can manage for hours to days on end.
"I think you should have them out more! Humans will accept nearly anything as 'cosplay', so even if you're seen you don't have to worry much. I've gotten compliments on my 'costume' many times."

“Right- if that was a costume, that obviously would’ve costed an absolute fortune for something that realistic. Humans are such funny creatures.”
Laurel opts to lean against the counter, shifting his weight to his arms to hold himself up.

“That’s quite nice of them to do so. I do try to blend in more myself with my ability to do so, but I do admire clean wings, the shimmering is always so satisfying.”

The book store was quite, as per usual, and Laurel didn’t have anything to do until a shipment comes in later that day, so he settled at the front desk/check out area to read Anastasia, The Last Grand Duchess, Russia, 1914. A moment of peace was quite the blessing right now.

Felix walks into the store, being mindful of his wings and tail as to not knock anything over by accident. He waves politely to Laurel, smiling, as he begins browsing the shelves. Today he's decided to look for both a book he'd like, and something for Vizerxa, just because.
Laurel smiles upon Felix’s arrival, offering a nod in response to his wave. He holds the page where he’s currently at in the book and partially closes it as he tilts his head.
“Welcome, is there anything I can help you with?”
"Hello! Ah... do you have any classical literature you'd recommend? A friend of mine really likes reading. Also looking for any fantasy books for myself."
Felix explains, walking closer to the front desk to converse. He chuckles and rubs the back of his neck.
"ah, sorry I don't have anything more specific... classic lit and fantasy feel vague."
“People have been vaguer, no worries. I can recommend some of the ones I’ve personally read and what’s popular, and then what’s similar to those.”
Laurel grabs the bookmark next to the cash register and puts that in his book where he was holding his place before setting it down in a shelf under/behind the counter. He bites the inside of his cheek for a second while he tries to recall a few books, tapping the counter for each one he mentions.
“I know Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky is really good, and I’ve heard a lot of positive regard for one of his other books, The Brothers Karamazov. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is a popular one. Animal Farm by George Orwell was a good read, and his book 1984 is quite famous as well. Dracula by Bram Stoker is a very popular classic, and I personally enjoy the book that inspired it, Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. For fantasy, the trilogy The Adventurers Guild by Nick Eliopulos and Zack Loran Clark is amazing, I’ve heard good things about Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, the trilogy Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan is quite lovely, and I heard good things about The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, which is a sequel to a book called The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, both by Mackenzi Lee, and something I’ve been meaning to pick up is The Legend of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong.”
Felix blinks, a bit suprised by how many books Laurel can name so easily. Though, it makes sense; he works at a book store after all.
"Oh, neat! hm.."
He glances to the side for a few moments, thinking.
"I'll get Crime and Punishment, and Carmilla. And The Adventures Guild trilogy!"
He decides with a smile.
“I’ve read all of those, lovely choices.”
Laurel smiles as he gets up, walking around and leading Felix to the side of the store.
“This is the classic literature section, the young adult and adult fantasy sections are on this side of the wall towards the back. If you need help finding anything, please let me know.”
Laurel inclines his head and then sets off back to his counter, where he picks his book back up.
"Awesome! Thank you for the help!"
Felix smiles, looking through the shelves and finding the books he's after. He returns to the counter, quite happy with his stack of books.
Laurel puts his book down once again and looks up at Felix with a small smile.
“I must say, the average customer does not typically leave with that many books. I do hope you enjoy them.”
Laurel takes the books to scan and bags them.
“That will be $123.”
"I mean, it's only fiii-"
Felix trails off at the price. That explains why not many people buy five books at once. He sighs and accepts his fate, pulling out his card and scanning it. Worth it. He's lucky Quoruvelm pays in silver coins, considering it seems to be valuable to earth nations and he can sell them when needed.
He easily cheers back up though.
"Well. That's fine. Thank you!"
