the Joker and Vriska are two characters often said to be similar, the Joker is said to be a "Vriska" and Vriska is said to be "a joker". This could not be more wrong, however, as they in fact represent two separate societal outcasts, opposed in every way.
The Joker is an outcast because he wants to be, it gives him power, forces people to orbit around him. He takes in the disadvantaged only to abuse and hurt them. He creates harm because he gains from it, not for any other reason. He exists on the fringes of society because the fringes contain the easiest victims. The Joker is a testament to male entitlement, the monster that hides under little girl's beds. Disgust is power, power leads to fear, he is a monster because he has chosen to be.
Vriska has always existed on the fringes of society. As a transgender woman in an already hostile alien society, Vriska is set out for a life of pain and abuse. Her youth is defined by pain, she's abused and denigrated without compassion. She's forced to kill others for her lusus, forcing a pattern of violence. These endless opportunities for pain and trauma to creep into her mind, this causes a reaction. Vriska being a freak, an outsider, a monster. Vriska exist on the fringes of society because she has been forced there, and if you are on the fringes of society, why not pull a thread and unwind the entire system? Vriska did not choose to be a Vriska, Vriska was given the tools, the pain, the motivation, who could blame her for using them?
Vriska is a Vriska because she is in pain, Joker is a Joker because he wants to cause pain. Vriska's evil actions-both experienced and enacted- don't define her, but they do effect her, one does not have to be good to be a hero and she is living proof. The Joker's deep, cankerous evil, lays within his intentions. He wants to hurt others, he is elated with the idea, he is the Joker because he hurts others and it means little more than amusement. Through this surely you can see, the Vriska, and the Joker, are opposite? They exist within completely separate world, Vriska is no Joker and the Joker is nay a Vriska
