it’s basically a idea that has been circling tmnt fandom for years. i think it started with 2003 tmnt actually
anyway, the fan theory is that Leo breaks almost every electronic he touches. And that in turn, is that he can’t make toast without the toaster breaking. There’s also a theory that he can’t cook but that doesn’t explain the toaster theory
There have been fanfiction’s, fan art, all about this poor toaster he always breaks

The toaster is a a trans-universe entity that spans across all TMNT universes and torments both Leonardo and Donatello XD
Look, I’m not saying the fanon of Leo vs Toasters is legendary, but whenever I see a new fan art or fanfic depicting Leo destroying a toaster, I feel like I’ve been gifted a birthday present when it’s not my birthday. I feel like it’s a brand new episode of the franchise itself.
Leo has to be bad at something ridiculously simple in order to remain humble about all his other skills.
*snaps fingers* That’s how we Olds came up with it during 2003.
Generally the headcanon was that the kitchen was Mikey’s territory since he was a Culinary Artist, and Mikey lived with a low-level stress about Leonardo using the toaster. Some of us decided that Mikey and Donnie developed a code for “Leo is near the toaster” and it makes me so happy how the entire fandom still runs with it and even ups the ante.
Wow let me start by saying how blown away I am that I contributed to fanon without even knowing. I’m a very new fan of TMNT with Rise being my first introduction to the franchise. I’ve been slowly watching the older series and because of that I catch more and more references to these series when I rewatch Rise episodes! There is no toaster shown, but after learning this it’s possible this scene could be a nod to this infamous headcanon!
(And for context to this scene, it shows how Mikey is a better cook than Leo; Mikey making a gourmet pizza and Leo…well…burning toast)
