"No I have a budget," crystallin answered, although it was more of a whine, further accented by the sulking pout that crossed her face as she said it.

"Collin has been helping me keep track. According to him I would be an absolutely useless treasurer." Which sounded rude but she wouldnt outwardly agree he was probably right ... that had never been her intended role in the courts after all.

Still, the conversation- or several- had probably sparked this entire 'get rich quick' vibe plan.

“I feel like I would be far more suited to helping advertise … but I suppose that would work,” crystallin nodded side to side. Granted she wasnt keen on getting a job there - or anywhere- in the first place. She already had a job here.

“But the café is closed right now. So that will be a later problem.”

“I mean hey that could work too, whatever gets you a spot and that sweet employee discount. Chir won’t give a fuck big trust and I’m more than happy to take you to and from, drive or shadows either way” Jess agreed, giving a small hand wave. Just in case that had been in doubt.

There was a ‘oh right’ look on her face at the reminder and she hummed.

“Shows you how much I pay attention. Later problem yeah, pleeeenty of time to plan. Whatever the plan ends up being”

"I'm sure I'll come up with something," crystallin agreed, smiling brightly. Realistically Jess had to know the whole plan was bad. But at least with crystallin it would likely be fine ... a small chaotic mess for a moment, but no harm would come to the café or owner she seemed to appreciate so much.

That at least seemed to make enough sense. Though if that was a reminder to Jess that Crys hadn’t grown up here, the next bit would surely remind her what exactly her friend was.

“Oh … but what if I treat him very well? He would be very happy.” It was for the best Titania had eventually decided the fey should stop forcibly adopting mortals…but that certainly hadn’t covered things like marriages.

“Oh my Gods girl no” Jess said firmly, using some shadows to lightly swat at her friend’s arm “If you wanted to date the guy cuz you liked him and thought he was cute then sure, but we don’t go around marrying people for cafe bonuses! Whether he would be happy or not!”

Well okay she supposed there were exceptions to that but she sure as hell wasn’t telling Crystallin that

Crystallin swatted back with a pout. “Oh alright … can I charm him for discounts?” She checked. Really the issue was that for all her status and skills - Crystallin was rather broke. Being an assistant counselor for a secret demigod camp was… not lucrative. Nor was she well equipped for prolonged human social interaction…

“With your beautiful face and charming personality sure, nothing else” Jess said, giving her friend a look. Arms now loosely crossed over her chest. “That I am sure will be manageable. It is a shame that the job market is so tight. You would probably get better discounts if you worked there in some capacity. ”

In the back, away from the people. Far far away from the people.

"Fiiiine. Only my good looks and wit then," she agreed. It wasn't a promise exactly, but she had always kept her word.

Though at the mention of a job, crystallin seemed even more perplexed than earlier. Perhaps she had neglected to mention to Jess, but her upbringing had been intended for diplomatic purposes, not normal jobs.. not that she was unwilling, but there was a high chance she just sucked at it. As Jess was already imagining.

"I'll ask him?" She guessed.

It was more than likely painfully obvious to Jess that there was some grave misunderstanding of human legality involved here… the real question was why.

The way that Jess slow-blinked at her friend was very reminiscent of a cat, however where it was a sign of trust with cats, hers was just confusion.

“Girl…why?” the question was paired with raised eyebrows and spoken in a higher tone than the demigod usually used “Normalize context what?”

“Because then I am entitled to the café and don’t have to pay for anything,” crystallin answered. This time her tone implied it was obvious ‘why’ she was going to carry out this plan and how it obviously should have been obvious to Jess that this was the goal.

“Of course I would never abuse it- he’s still got to make a profit- but it would be so nice in the mornings.”

The confusion on her face just intensified as her lips parted, head tilting slightly.

“You concern me” Jess admitted, slow blinking still “I don’t think that will work out how you think it will babe, Have you asked him if that’s something he’d like want? Does he need a Lavender marriage or something?”

It was crystallin's turn to look confused. "He wants to get married someday. But if he needs lavender I can easily grow that for him. Along with any other herbs he could possibly want."

Crystallin opened her closet and looked over her shoulder. "Besides, I'm considered quite the catch."

₊˚⊹ ʚɞ♡︎ ˚⋅. it vaguely registers in valerie's mind if the other is even able to hear the light tapping on the pane of glass , though it was all she can really do to try and see if she would be able to gain her attention . the noise however was so quiet that it might have taken someone with exceptionally good hearing that borders on unbelievably so to pick up on anything . the appearance of the woman , even from not too good of an angle , was familiar , though due to her circumstances and the state of mind she was in , she was never sure what was real , and what has she created within her psyche due to what could be loneliness for a friend . from what she could discern from her vantage point , the woman seems confused to where she was ; valerie did not blame her , of course . from what she has seen of the other houses around her own , they have somewhat of the same design , the same cars in the driveway ; very cookie cutter and like it could be simply anywhere .

she had made the acquaintance of the woman a while ago for the first time , though to her it felt like it could be a lifetime ago . then again , any span of time could be so when stuck in this kind of environment , one day able to easily and seamlessly blend into the other the only noticable change being the seasons passing outside the window she would gaze out of . even when she did meet her , she was not even sure if who she was speaking to was a real person , or if she had made up the whole encounter inside her mind . either way , she did dwell on these thoughts more than one would think , trying to fit together the pieces in her muddled brain . now , being in her early to late adolescent years , she still was striving to decipher if it all had been a figment , or if it was real .

even now , as she witnesses the presence of the woman right there before her , just separated by a mere pane of glass , she still is not able to trust herself . then she graces her with recognition , && valerie decides that she cannot make something like this up ; the woman was too ethereal , too beautiful , just to be an idea she conjured out of loneliness . the younger girl gives the same gesture , hers more timid && meek , though no less excited to see her friend . a soft expression comes to her , feeling a sense of relief come over her that she was not wrong about another thing she could have sworn was fact . even though it was not clear to valerie right now if the other would come && say hello , she was very delighted to see her nonetheless . ₊˚⊹ ʚɞ♡︎ ˚⋅.

Valerie was the only one Sighted here, as far as Crystallin had been able to determine. Although that was, in part, because there was never anyone else around to be cautious of. It was ... strange, and sad. Valerie had explained why she was alone, but it didn't make Crystallin any happier about it. She didn't understand humans at times like these.

Still, sensing no one aside from Valerie, Crystallin had already made up her mind to visit properly. She needed to know how things were anyway if she were to take a full report back to Everhighness after all; or so she reasoned.

While she didn't expressly need permission to enter the home, Crystallin still stopped at the doorway and knocked politely. Assuming, of course, that Valerie wasn't already waiting at the threshold. She really would have to apologize for her absence. Between the way time worked between the realms, and just not realizing how much time had passed, Crystallin was sure it had been much longer than she'd ever intended.

"Hello, my sweet," she greeted, opening her arms to embrace her.

Crystallin had intended to drop off Jess's mail and continue doing her own thing for the afternoon. However, there was a very fancy letter that Crystallin had a good hunch on who the sender might be.

Jess had been talking about an upcoming dinner and had been kind enough to invite her, but Crystallin had insisted on getting proper permission. After all, she didn't want something going wrong trying to visit the underworld when she wasn't dead.

With the letter carefully set on Jess's dresser where she could easily see it, Crystallin had opted to lounge on the girl's bunk with a magazine to pass the time. Eventually Jess would return to her cabin for something.

Crystallin attempted to look entirely innocent of the alleged future crimes, but really where was the harm? If anything it would be good for Jess! She'd have two strong women to back her up as needed. This was clearly a very good thing and should be encouraged...

At any rate, Crystallin focused on the dress. She whined a bit in her throat, analyzing the dress carefully before sighing dramatically. "Oh alright, I'm sure I have something we can agree on," she answered, hurrying to the closet to hide most of the wide smile on her face.

She liked it when Jess let her dress her up.

She brought her attention to Jess with a curious look, waiting to see what the girl would pull from her closet. It was ... alright. Crystallin couldn't quite stop herself from the small wrinkle in her nose as she surveyed it.

"Well... I suppose it's not bad," she whined. "I could help dress it up a bit more, if you like," she offered cautiously. Clothing wasn't exactly a sore point between them, but it was very obvious who cared about it more.

Comportment and respect are important things when dealing with a queen of fae. Neither of which had ever been Aleera's strong suit. She'd usually replied on charm, wit, cunning, and sheer audacity to get her through.

But sometimes you just needed someone to be... neighbourly. And Crystallin might not exactly be a drinking buddy of Aleera's, but they'd parted on relatively good terms after that case. And Aleera needed someone who knew the workings of the courts.

"...and be honest," she smiled once she was done explaining her presence. "You missed me~"

Crystallin nodded and watched Aleera leave her office. She'd just have to send one of her employees out for those errands. She did have explicit instructions for the bakery after all.

The Plaza was always a hub of activity. It - and the other places like it - were the hearts of regional Other communities. It was where the seats of powers met and made their decisions; where they kept offices in a way. Usually the heads of families, clans, or covens left the local leaderships to their underlings and made decisions from their bases, but no one who kept a seat in The Plaza was any sort of weakling. They couldn't be. Which also meant that The Plaza was meant to be a neutral zone where all clearly defined factions could cooperate.

The Plaza was also far bigger than the name implied in order to hold all the necessary offices, shops, and general spaces for activities and specific needs to any particular types. While it was well guarded from humanity and somehow managed to redirect anyone around it so it stayed hidden - there was at least an information desk for anyone who needed it.
