Dark Mirror Month
Several months before the events of Dark Mirror...
A purple portal opened within the chamber far beneath the ruins of Destral, alerting the Toa of Shadow and Rahkshi. Moving in position around the portal weapons at ready, they eagerly waited for someone to step out back home.
Hopefully with some friends.
The armored foot and Kanohi Olmak of Makuta Tridax were the first to return to the air of his underground laboratory. Behind him came five more: four Toa of Shadow, and their newest ârecruit.â
Shadow Takanuva and the Rahkshi lowered their weapons as Makuta Tridax walked past them with marching Toa behind him, dragging a limp Toa of Light from another dimension. The portal closed behind them, vanishing in a cloud of purple.
Tridax, forced to hide in his own lab as the Empire came and invaded Destral, had spent the past thousand years brainwashing his small army of Takanuva. The progress was infuriatingly slow at first. But when he figured out what made the Toa tick, he could turn ten Takanuva into a perfect Toa Hagah squad, ever loyal. After a while, he had even discarded his original Kanohi and wore the Olmak on daily basis.
Dark Mirror Month(s)
Love em or hate em, AUs certainly bring variety to the Bionicle saga. And now, to the RP community! Starting August 21, the day of the fated eclipse, darkness will come to the RP multiverseâŠ
Dark Mirror Month is a period (time not limited to exactly 1 month) where weâll explore the destinies of our characters in the Toa Empire! Any and every Bionicle RP blog is welcome to participate. For ease of communication, it would be wise to mark each thread as Before, After, or During the events of âDark Mirrorâ itself - since a lot of characters would be, shall we say, not available for comment after the takedown of the Toa Empire.
Have at it, RP blogs! And respect your local Toa⊠or else!
reading my own writing: boy, you sure like your commas, donât you,
which of your sons was the strongest in your eyes?
I try not to play favorites; in my eyes, each of my Rahkshi was equally powerful in their own unique way.Â
its turahk isnt it
⊠Perhaps.
What about all those Shadow Takanuva? Arenât they like sons to you as well?
Why would they be, if they were not borne of my essence? âNephewsâ, I could understand⊠but even that would be a stretch.
âAbductees-in-lawâ would be more fitting.
Trust me, even after having our light drained, none of us were thrilled to serve you. You can count on that.
Trouble in Pylas Teluma
dark-hunters-inc:
He began walking to the north, towards Creep Canyon, and noticed Seeker looking yearningly to the south. âCome on. Itâs treason not to report this.â
Seeker grimaced and muttered, more to himself than to Dweller, âIt was right in front of me.â Dweller didnât need to scan his mind to know that treason was seeming like a reasonable option.
A jolt of psychic pain snapped Seeker out of his reverie. âTell you what,â said Dweller. âIf youâre so desperate to see those shadowspawn again⊠when we get back to Creep Canyon, Iâll put in a good note for you, say you kept a cool head and stayed true to the organization. The boss trusts my word. With any luck⊠youâll be seeing those masks again, very soon.â
And if you choose to cross the Dark Hunters then, thought Dweller as he rode Seeker back to base, well, whoâs really going to miss you?
The three Shadow Toa descended into the cave, after a long trek back home. Greeting the two guards, they entered the base as the doors were opened. Their leader had randomly chosen a handful of less-than-fit Shadow Takanuva to carve the walls of their cave into a proper base with the stone-carving tools they had managed to acquire from a nearby caravan. Surprisingly, they had managed to get a lot of work done.
âYou can barely recognize the place,â dent said, looking around. âTo think that it used to be just a cave when we left.â Ex-operative was slightly surprised too, although he was certain someone had written something derogatory out of sight.
âBack so soon?â
Takua Nuva approached the three from the left hall, presumably having finished inspecting the work done there.
âUnfortunately,â the squad leader said. âWe found a source of Protosteel weapons manufacturers, but Dark Hunters were there too.â
âDweller?â Takua Nuva asked.
âAnd Seeker,â the squad leader added, nodding. âBoth recognized us, there was a fight, and the settlement we were spying on sent guards on flyers...â Takua Nuva nodded solemnly, his eyes wandering in thought.
âI should have known they were still around,â Takua muttered, his eyes focused on the dentâs ragged cloak and the mute leaning on the former. âAnd judging from the damage, I take it they managed to get samples for Tracker to find us.â Squad leader nodded again. âWhat about the settlementâs guards?â
âWe killed them before they could warn anyone,â squad leader answered. âThough I doubt that theyâre gonna be quiet about three of them being killed by Toa of Shadow...â
Their leaderâs eyebrows furrowed at hearing the news, making the three scouts uneasy. Even the mute who was practically emotionless last he met looked slightly worried of retribution.
Takua sighed. âI didnât send you to fight, so I canât blame you for losing to Dark Hunters,â he said to calm the three. âIf anything, youâre the first party that came back relatively in one piece.â He glanced over towards the two Shadow Toa he appointed as their medical staff, if you could even call them that. âEven if thisâll hurt us in the long-run, at the very least you didnât die for them to study your bodies. Or worse, get captured.â
âWhat about the Dark Hunters?â The squad leader asked. âEven if they want peace with us, theyâll still want to control us.â
âLeave that to me,â Takua answered, motioning the two medics to help the mute. âNow, get some rest, you two.â
âFor we have a long night ahead of us.â
To be continued..?
Trouble in Pylas Teluma
the-shadow-takanuva:
Much to his surprise, the mute saw the Kinloka that jumped him vanish before his eyes, along with the entire pack. Must have been the illusionistâs trick, he thought. With the same mindset he attempted to stand up, and as he expected, despite the wound on his back his legs worked fine.
Hearing the sound of talking coming from the cliff, he hurried back to his allies.
âAnd let you run back to the Shadowed One and explain to him how three Takanuva - all drained of their light - attacked one of his men and almost killed him,â Former operative objected, pointing his Kanoka Blade at Dweller. âAnd if my memory serves me right, you have something - a piece of rag, drop of blood, shrapnel from armor - thatâll allow his lackeys to track us, pinpoint our location and send their best to clear us out, or worse, torture out every bit of info we have to combat the ârealâ Takanuva.â
The mute was listening on the conversation, standing within a swinging distance from Dweller. If things went wrong, he could hopefully get a surprise attack on the illusionist. Although it wasnât the most tactical choice, at this point. If Shadowed One found out that three Takanuva killed two of his men, heâd send out a search party and do just what his boss would fear they would do. On the other hand, if they were let go, Shadowed One would definitely still come look for them.
In the best-case scenario, itâd be an alliance. But as if that would happen.
Dweller was about to negotiate a very clever deal, in his estimation, when he sensed a flurry of minds in the near distance. It was too late to talk - they had company now. Quickly, he skewered Seekerâs mind with a dart of fear, stirring him from his mask-crazed funk and inspiring in him the urge to run. Seeker leapt to his four feet, hoisted Dweller up, and slammed his staff into the ground to cover their escape. Carrying Dweller on his back, he clambered up the quivering cliff face and onto a higher ledge to take shelter. Behind them, the droning hum of the Pylas Teluma Guardâs vehicles was only just becoming audible.
The dent was knocked down by Seeker getting up and ramming through him out of the blue. He had been too focused paying attention to the back and forth between his boss and Dweller to get out of the way in time.
As the mute readied a swing and the squad leader dashed after the duo while attempting to recreate the veil of darkness around Seeker, the Dark Hunter smashed his spear into the ground between them and almost caused the entire pathway to collapse. Both of them stumbled and were covered in dirt from the debris the impact had created, and when things cleared both Seeker and Dweller were gone.
âGreat,â the leader coughed as he got out of the dirt cloud, followed by the mute dusting his cloak. âNow the Dark Hunters know of our existence and most likely send someone after us.â The dent haphazardly got back up, adjusting his mask.
âDid anyone get the number of that cart?â His leader scowled at him, about to say something... rather unorthodox for a former Toa of Light. He stopped himself before saying anything and closed his eyes.
âJust... get your cloak and letâs get going,â he eventually said, walking towards the tunnel they made. âThe city guards probably heard the scuffle and will be here in a minute or two.â
On que, he heard strange droning noise, quickly getting louder and louder. In a second, the whole cliff face was filled by the light from the Pylas Teluma Guard vehicles. A wonder child of Matoran-Agori tech, if you could call it that, ridden by Agori and Matoran in darkly colored armor he couldnât recognize due to the light.
âCrud.â
âBy the Order and Law of Pylas Teluma Peopleâs Council,â the Agori in the front said through a voice enhancer fitted on the vehicle, âyouâre under arrest for endangering lives of our citizens. Put down your weapons-â
Before he could finish, the world went dark. He couldnât see anything, but he heard conflict around him, as his squadron was fired upon. Out of instinct, he activated his shield and attempted to maneuver back.
And was suddenly thrown out. The darkness dissipated before he hit the ground and could let out a scream.
Back up on the cliff, the leader lowered the craft as he jumped off of it, urging his compatriots to follow.
âIsnât the cart faster?â The dent asked, flinching as the city alarms blared.
âI doubt that it was made for long-distance travel,â the leader answered, pushing the rock hiding their tunnel aside. âMight have a transmitter or something on it too.â
âA what?â
âGet in,â the leader replied curtly.
With that, the three Takanuva got in the tunnel. The leader went last, propping the rock back into place.
Last Moments
The Shadow Takanuva were on their way to the enormous jungle that the locals referred to as âBota Magna.â Story goes, the planet, Spherus Magna, was ripped apart in three pieces; the sea formed Aqua Magna, the jungle formed Bota Magna and the arid desert formed Bara Magna. After Mata Nui defeated Makuta - a fact Takanuva still couldnât get over - he united the fragments once again and reformed Spherus Magna. Most of the inhabitants were stuck on Bara Magna, so most had no clue what lies within the jungles. For this very reason, âTakua Nuvaâ as their leader referred to himself as sent a group of four - himself, an amputee, a strangely armored and a scarred Takanuva - to do recon, so they could find out if there were any weapons, artifacts, items of interest or opportunities ripe for taking.
If only he knew the horror that awaited them.

âMake a move and youâre dead⊠whatever you are,â The dent threatened, poking Seeker with his spearâs prongs.
âSo, Seeker,â the ex-agent mockingly asked, âWhereâs Dweller?â
âWhoâs Dweller?â The dent asked.
On the road, the muteâs breathing became more and more frantic as he found himself unable to stand up or feel his legs. The Dark Hunter must have paralyzed him to focus on helping his ally. But how? He didnât feel the blade hit his spine.
The former Chronicler wasnât going to give up, though. Even if he were to die here, he had to warn the others. Grabbing his staff, he tried to use it as leverage to drag himself back to the cliff.
Thatâs when he heard uncomfortably familiar growling. Turning his head, his eyes confirmed his fears.
Kinloka. A whole pack of them.
Knowing he obviously couldnât get away from them in time, he aimed his Chroniclerâs Staff at the pack of ravenous Rahi and opened fire.
Dweller saw the dark Toa drop, then begin aiming his weapon at the road ahead. Clinging to the wall, he climbed around the line of fire, scuttling spiderlike to the site of Seekerâs ill-chosen battle. He found Seeker in as good of a position as he could have expected: at the mercy of two angry Toa.
âRight here,â he said in response to the leaderâs question. From a distance, he dispelled the nightmare heâd in which heâd trapped the third Toa. âLetâs put an end to this. This firefight has blown our cover sky-high; Iâm sure the town guards are moments away. If we all put our weapons down, we can safely go our separate ways.â He gave a harsh look to Seeker. âNo further entanglements. So what do you say, Toa? A truce?â
Much to his surprise, the mute saw the Kinloka that jumped him vanish before his eyes, along with the entire pack. Must have been the illusionistâs trick, he thought. With the same mindset he attempted to stand up, and as he expected, despite the wound on his back his legs worked fine.

AKU WAS 10 TIMES THE VILLIAN YOU WOULD EVER BE!!!
A bold claim⊠but can you prove it?
For starters, he actually took over the world just as he planned, and built the empire of evil. Also, he sent the only person that could stop him into the future, where the world already belongs to him. I mean, how evil you must be to send someone who hoped to stop you to a place where all they see around is the consequence of their failure?
I, too, took over the world as planned, so that is a moot point. Furthermore, you forget that Aku only exiled his opponent to the distant future to save his own hide: Had the warrior remained in the present, the demon never would have stood a chance of surviving, let alone conquering the world. I, on the other hand, was able to conquer my world by USING my enemies as my unwitting pawns - I had nothing to fear from them. Aku was only able to conquer through sheer might, but I used both brains and brawn to secure my goal.
So, using the power of time is only cheating when someone else does it? Because I remember a certain someone being very keen to get his hands on a mask to control time. Just saying
Your point? I only wanted the Vahi so I could expedite my plan of conquering Metru Nui and cleansing the minds of its populace. Aku, on the other hand, only used it because he failed to defeat a mortal armed only with a magic toothpick. If I had the power to create time portals at will, I would be using it for far more imaginative purposes.
What about the Olmak? You must have known it existed, yet you allowed Tridax to keep it and build himself an army of Toa wearing Masks of Light simply because he could. What would you do if he rose up against you with thousands of us, all wearing the very Kanohi that could allegedly reduce an average Makuta to begging?
After all, lack of moral light doesnât guarantee that weâre loyal to a âsuperiorâ being of shadow. If anything it guarantees that weâll stab you in the back.
Oh hey terridax. Question. Why did u kidnap and make several shadow takanuva. If one Toa of light was bad later a Toa of twilight. Why grab a tone of them
That was Tridaxâs idea, not mine. But then, it is a little late to ask him now, isnât it?Â
Well youâre apparently still kicking, as are several other dead people. Perhaps Tridax is milling around somewhere doing⊠whatever it is he does.
Mostly sulking about never getting to use my awesome army of Shadow Takanuva SHUT UP MUTRAN OF COURSE ITâS A GOOD IDEA
âŠI stand corrected.
How are you still alive?
Through the magic of alternate universes, naturally!
I... ...see.
I take it you somehow managed to survive the initial scuffle with the Order, followed Vezon around on his trip to the multiverse and found yourself a new body and another Olmak, is that it?
Trouble in Pylas Teluma
the-shadow-takanuva:
Takanuva pondered to himself for a moment. Seeker isnât acknowledging Krakua fighting him, Krakua himself isnât fighting Seeker to defend him, the dent doesnât see Krakua and the odds of Krakua having the time and right to take the Olmak, one of the universeâs - and potentially multiverseâs - rarest Kanohi, to travel across the multiverse to look for one Toa of Light and immediately recognize him were⊠So small that most would consider them an impossibility.
In an instant, he waved his hand and created a veil of shadow across Seekerâs face, obstructing his field of vision and effectively blinding him. With a charge, the former Herald of Light struck the Hunterâs hand with the Kanoka Blade, itâs power weakening Seekerâs hold of the Seismic Spear.
âI and my team have fought you twice and heard your monologue dozens of times, Dark Hunter,â He taunted, aiming another swing at the Hunterâs legs. âAnd Iâve learned more than well that Avohkii is too precious for you to destroy.â
âOh yeah, good point,â the dent-masked Takanuva realized. âIf he wanted our masks, he wouldnât throw their wearers down a cliff and ruin them.â
Around the bend, the mute fell over in pain as something struck him. Rolling on his side, he instinctively launched several bolts of shadow at the general direction of where the strike came from, hoping to strike the invisible assailant.
Everything went dark. A blade crashed into Seekerâs arm, then another at his legs, staggering his balance. It was all he could do to keep his grip on his staff. He clutched his face, trying to prod vision back into his eyes, but to no avail. In desperation, he reared up on his hind legs and kicked his long, spined legs in the air, hoping to dispatch the Toa long enough to run.
Meanwhile, Dweller dodged three bolts of nebulous energy, trying not to watch them blast apart the rocks behind him. His blade had hit its mark, but apparently not ended his target. Have I lost my edge? he wondered.
At least not as a psychic, he hadnât; the Takanuva still couldnât detect him. He decided to put this to his advantage. After getting a good distance from the Toa, he dropped his mental camouflage and focused his nightmare power anew. Once this Toa was ensnared, he would return to the cliff and grab Seeker for reinforcements.
The ex-Order servant was thrown back by Seekerâs desperate kick, landing him at the edge of the cliff. The dent and âKrakuaâ took hold of him before he fell headfirst several hundred meters.
âHang on, brother,â âKrakuaâ said, offering his hand. Takanuva scoffed and took the dentâs hand instead, his arm phasing through the illusionâs âbodyâ as he did so.
âYouâre not real,â he muttered, as the confused Shadow Takanuva pulled him up through the mirage. Upon touch, it became transparent, similar to what an user of the Mask of Intangibility looked like.
The dent didnât bother to ask who or what his leader was talking about as he helped him on his feet. The darkness across Seekerâs face began to dissipate as he ran towards the rocks half-blind, but was tripped as the dent swiped his spear at the Dark Hunterâs feet, causing him to stumble. The veil of shadow was recreated by the ex-agent as he stood up and approached Seeker fumbling on the ground, trying to stand up. Glancing behind him, he smiled as the illusion of Krakua disintegrated and vanished.
âMake a move and youâre dead... whatever you are,â The dent threatened, poking Seeker with his spearâs prongs.
âSo, Seeker,â the ex-agent mockingly asked, âWhereâs Dweller?â
âWhoâs Dweller?â The dent asked.

âWhat in Mata Nui are you doing?â He asked, eyeing Seeker regaining his balance. âThereâs an angry Hunter right there!â His leader attempted to push him off.
âAre you bl-ind, you dent?â the Shadow Takanuva asked, his voice and body calming down. âIâm fighting the damn Toa who just came out of a portal,â he pointed at the Toa of Sonics standing in front of him. The dent-masked Toa looked around, flabbergasted.
âWhat are you talking about!? Thereâs no one there!â
Behind the waterfall, former Chronicler of Metru Nui regained his balance. The sudden tremor had shaken the entire road, even causing small amounts of it to crack away. Looking up, he noticed the cliff above him cracking, too. Another strike like that might be lethal.
But, if the inevitable happens and Seeker uses his spear again, itâll hopefully deal with whoever - or whatever - was hiding. Judging from the Dark Hunterâs reaction to their Kanohi, he was obsessed with getting his claws on them. And given that he was a Dark Hunter, he most likely couldnât care less about the safety of his fellow operative if he had three legendary masks.
Takanuva marched forward, his staff crackling with shadow energy. He knew he hadnât hit his mark with the barrage of shadow blasts. If he did, the illusion would break. So whatever was causing them must be hiding. And one potential hiding place would be the giant boulder sitting on the side of the road.
Seeker bore down on the Toa - one weakened and delusional, one terrified to take the initiative. A simple seismic attack should be enough to fell them; the trouble was keeping their masks intact. He couldnât risk a rockfall crushing their precious Kanohi into shrapnel.
âIâll give you one last chance,â he chuckled. âHand over the masks, and Iâll let you live. If notâŠâ He twirled his spear and held it above the ground, ready to plunge it into the cliff face. âYouâre going down.â
Crouching behind the boulder, Dweller had no inkling of Seekerâs destructive mania. He only knew that a Toa of Shadow, seemingly Takanuva himself, was bearing down on him, and would soon find his hiding place. He listened closely for the Toaâs footsteps, then began creeping slowly around the boulder opposite him. Once he was facing the Toaâs back, he readied his jagged blade and lunged in a surprise attack.
Takanuva pondered to himself for a moment. Seeker isnât acknowledging Krakua fighting him, Krakua himself isnât fighting Seeker to defend him, the dent doesnât see Krakua and the odds of Krakua having the time and right to take the Olmak, one of the universeâs - and potentially multiverseâs - rarest Kanohi, to travel across the multiverse to look for one Toa of Light and immediately recognize him were...
