"As you venture on, you find yourself inescapably drawn towards unimaginable cruelties. Where do these thoughts come from?"
Hello! My name is Addison, and this is my Baldur's Gate 3 sideblog (my main is @psystirene!)
I use He/Him pronouns (and Neos), I am a lesbian and over 18ā¼
I started playing BG3 in September and have been obsessed with it since; that has included thinking way too much about it and doodling my characters a bunch, which I intend to post here!
My favorite characters (= I think about them a lot) are Minthara, Shadowheart, Astarion and Lae'zel- Though I do love all the companions- as well as pretty much any Dark Urge.
Gortash and Orin fan by proxy, and I also love Alfira (<3)
Note I queue most posts, and if I don't leave any comments in tags it's usually because I'm too excited about the post to articulate it š
I will sometimes ramble in reblogs/tags, sorry if it's annoying- But you're free to do the same to any of my posts!
I appreciate it I'll read it <3
If you have a toyhou.se, you can visit my OCs' pages through there- Most are visible only to users who are logged in.
Blog navigation + OC info below!
I will inadvertently post spoilers from time to time: Act 1 spoilers will not be tagged, past that it'll be #act 2 spoilers, and #act 3 spoilers. As I'm writing this I haven't finished Act 3.
My characters currently include:
Edelzyne - Face of this account atm- fucked up drow Dark Urge
Sylphin - Half-elf cleric Tav, child of divorce, loser, etc
Siraye - Mother of the child of divorce. Can be a Tav in funny AUs
Cordyle - AU of a Skyrim OC, Hells-obsessed High Elf wizlock, in a party with Afar.
Eyes from Afar - AU of a Skyrim OC, Sharran Rogue Tabaxi, in a party with Cordyle. (Note her tag will be #oc: afar)
Nandryn - Multiplayer Tav, Seldarine Drow Ranger
Lochor - Multiplayer Tav, played alongside a good Durge, asshole Dragonborn Druid
Fish - Redeemed Dark Urge, pathetic little Tiefling cleric
Qa'leith - Most recent playthrough, Githyanki Monk Tav
You can look them up with the the tag oc: (name), like oc: edelzyne, and all content of/about them will show up.
When/if I make intro posts for them I will link those here as well <3
Other tags!
#my art - Any art I've made
#my writing - I don't write a whole lot, but it'll be there if I do
#screenshots - My screenshots.
#gif - Will include gifsets, but also any gifs. I don't make gifsets, myself
#rambles - Just random stuff I say, will have other tags if I deem it worthy
#memes - Any memes I reblog or make.
#resources - Stuff I reblog/make that's meant to be helpful to me or other people. Might include builds and such I want to replicate later.
Characters will be tagged with just their names, etc etc. That should be all, otherwise I'll try and update this post!
My warnings will always use #tw (text) (i.e #tw blood), I will not use CWs because I feel like it overcomplicates things.
Ask me to tag things if I don't already and I'll try and remember to. But you can expect most common triggers to be tagged already.
Round 1 ā Match 13 / 23 ā Minthara Baenre vs. Raphael
Nightwarden Minthara Baenre is a recruitable Companion who can be romanced by characters of any gender. She is a Lolth-Sworn Drow and an Oath of Vengeance Paladin with the Noble background. Ruthless in service of the Absolute, she commands a camp of goblins planning an attack on the Emerald Grove in the name of their god. Initially hostile, she can be re-encountered during Act Two and saved from execution.
"thereās no clowning around with her. sheās intense, sheās ruthless, sheās fully committed to the Absolute at that point, and she makes the whole attack-on-the-grove path feel way more real because she actually seems capable of pulling it off"
"she makes act 1 feel way more serious. also shes got that really good āsays horrible things in a calm voiceā thing going on which always works on me as villian material. just very very effective bad vibes tbh."
vs.
Raphael is a cambion / devil who first appears disguised as an enigmatic human, but quickly reveals his true form and intentions.
"he is sooo much. the voice, the theatrics, the little speeches, the smugness, the way he acts like every single conversation is a performance he already rehearsed in the mirror. i love him. and i think what makes him so good is that the game fully commits to how extra he is without ever letting him become harmless. heās funny, yes, and camp as hell, yes, but heās also genuinely dangerous in that very devil way where every kindness is bait and every deal is already weighted in his favor. plus the house of hope stuff is just unreal. a villain who gives himself his own boss-song moment is operating on a level of arrogance i can only respect."
"i loooove that the game lets him be both cool and embarassing abt it. like yes king sing ur own boss music. yes king make ur house a monument to urself. yes king be deeply evil but also so self-impressed that it loops back around to being funny. excellent hater. excellent drama queen. fantastic antagonist."
Round 1 ā Match 2 / 23 ā Wulbren Bongle vs. Bane
Wulbren Bongle is a deep gnome who leads the Ironhand Gnomes. Wulbren despises the Gondians and the Steel Watch, and is working to destroy the Steel Watch Foundry in Baldur's Gate and rid the city of Gondians.
"wulbren bongle YOU are the kind of antagonist i get obsessed with because every time heās on screen iām like ohhhh this guy SUCKS in such a specific, juicy way
like heās not some huge elegant mastermind, heās just this bitter, self-important, mean little revolutionary who keeps making everything worse by being the worst person imaginable about his own cause. and that is GREAT character material actually!! the way he treats barcus alone makes me want to chew drywall. plus i love that bg3 lets you spend so much time hearing about him before you properly deal with him, so by the time he finally shows his whole ass youāre either like āoh wow heās awfulā or āoh wow heās even worse than i hoped.ā incredible. nasty little man. top tier antagonist."
"bg3 fandom clearly has feelings about him for a reason lmao - between the barcus situation and the gondian stuff, heās one of those characters people donāt just dislike, they dislike with ENTHUSIASM"
vs.
Bane, also known as the Lord of Darkness, is the god of tyranny, hate, strife, and a member of the Dead Three. He is associated with the domains of Order and War. Bane cannot be the deity of a player character Cleric.
"What I like about Bane, honestly, is that he represents a kind of evil that feels especially gross because itās so recognisable. A lot of BG3 villains are chaotic, sadistic, theatrical, or personally obsessive in some way. Baneās whole thing is different. Heās about order, but order as domination. Heās about power being concentrated, enforced, obeyed. And I think that gives his presence in the game a different flavour from, say, Myrkul or Bhaal. Thereās something very ugly about a villainous force whose whole appeal is basically āwouldnāt the world be better if someone strong was allowed to crush everyone else into line.ā"
"even if bane isnāt everyoneās personal fave, everybody gets what makes him awful"
I drew this like..the night i finished BG3. But like. bruh...i wanna play again.

yappathon below:
OKAY funny story tho: when i first played BG3 i was about 1/3 of the way thru a campaign irl where i was playing cam (though...everyone knew him as martinus) and im like DAMNNN i wish BG3 had changelings. but I know its probably way too hard to put in the game without a mod, there's too many variables and its like on the c tier list of in-demand dnd races. whatever. right.
and then i got to act 3 and went OH MY GOD THATS WHY THEY COULDNT PUT EM IN.
anyway im gonna play cam as durge at some point bc i thought a sibling dynamic would be really funny. bro has severe only child energy. he would find orin so annoying which is just too bad really bc orin is easily like my fav npc/villain in this whole game. oops.
also another fun fact: cam's matador costume (ah yes from my comic....matador) was originally red but when i started playing in campaign, i changed it to be blue to be more subtle. but it was meant to be this bright striking colour, so i might bring that back in durge run
Actually ig they said "DIRECTLY after the events of the game" so. I double don't know what they're gonna be doing. Are they even all gonna be together???
It's tricky because "the mayhem in the city after it's juuuuust escaped an apocalypse by the skin of its teeth" is definitely a potentially interesting setting. But, like⦠not really for most of the main characters, truthfully. Wyll, kinda Astarion and maaaaaybe Shadowheart (but only if she's gone DJ before the show begins, which no way is that gonna happen) are the ones with potentially interesting futures in the city, I guess.
If it was me - and by putting this in writing I am casting a spell that will ensure it does not happen this way - I'd focus on totally new characters having adventures and rebuilding their lives in the shell-shocked city, and have the original characters appear essentially as cameos, or at most as crucial-but-rarely-appearing characters who hold up parts of the plot but only show up occasionally. Kind of like the way that big characters from the Star Wars films show up sometimes in the shows, only, you know...not shit.
This would have the huge additional benefit that those characters could be played by the VAs, so that existing fans would be hugely hyped for it but you can still cast, idk, the stars of Riverdale for the main parts and normies will know who they are and care about it
Actually I wasn't able to look at the IGN article closely (bugging out bad on my browser) but it looks like the show might actually be closer to what you've said.
Like "new characters and sometimes the bg3 companions show up". What the rest of the plot would be about though, I'm honestly not sure.
Obviously Baldur's Gate 3 and its characters were used so heavily for marketing / recognition purposes but I suppose it's more of a "Baldur's Gate" (the franchise) show.
My thing is that that makes sense and the fact they don't have to focus as heavily on preexisting characters means it's less likely to butcher them. But like... If it's a Baldur's Gate show, I would kind of expect there to be a Bhaalspawn? Bc they've been a consistent theme throughout all BG games right?
Orin is most likely dead, Durge is a mine field, so maybe some focus on Sarevok but his presence in bg3 felt a bit more like a reference to the older games so idk?
Round 5 ā Match 4 / 5 ā Karlach Cliffgate vs. Minthara Baenre
Karlach CliffgateĀ is anĀ Origin CharacterĀ and a recruitableĀ CompanionĀ who can beĀ romancedĀ by characters of any gender. She is aĀ Zariel Tiefling and aĀ BarbarianĀ with theĀ OutlanderĀ background. Karlach can be first found on theĀ Risen RoadĀ during Act One. Once a soldier inĀ Zariel'sĀ army, Karlach has been given a new chance at life after the recent events. Now, freed fromĀ Avernus, she will make the most out of it, and no one will get in her way.
"the second she starts doing the little āiām free, iām FREEā thing i was done for because sheās been through hell (literally) and her first instinct isnāt revenge monologue, itās ācan we go somewhere nice, can i hug people, can i dance, can i touch water without it boiling,ā and it makes every other act 1 complaint sound pathetic. also her humour is so specific?? like sheās not āquirky,ā sheās just a person whoās coping by being loud and honest and a bit unhinged. and when she gets emotional she doesnāt do the coy sadgirl thing, she goes full āIāM MAD ABOUT ITā and i love that. let women be angry and also sweet."
"Karlach brings me joy when Iām sad"
vs.
NightwardenĀ MintharaĀ BaenreĀ is a recruitable CompanionĀ who can beĀ romancedĀ by characters of any gender. She is aĀ Lolth-Sworn Drow and anĀ Oath of Vengeance PaladinĀ with theĀ NobleĀ background. Ruthless in service of theĀ Absolute, she commands a camp ofĀ goblinsĀ planning an attack on theĀ Emerald GroveĀ in the name of their god. Initially hostile, she can be re-encountered duringĀ Act TwoĀ and saved from execution.
"she's weirdly honest?? like once sheās on your side she isnāt doing the fake-friendly stuff, sheās just āthis is what i want, this is what i respect, this is what i will do if you cross me.ā itās refreshing!! also i love that sheās scary AND you can still catch these little moments where sheās basically going āi canāt believe people live like thisā about surface customs"
"minthara is one of my favourite āchoices matterā characters because sheās not designed to be universally accessible or universally agreeable. Sheās the consequence of a particular path, and once sheās in your party she doesnāt soften into a generic teammate.sheās still sharp, still ruthless, still deeply allergic to sentimentality. But sheās also⦠fascinatingly principled in her own way? She respects strength, she respects clarity, she respects you actually committing to something instead of wobbling around hoping everyone likes you.And Iām sorry, the deadpan delivery kills me."
Actually ig they said "DIRECTLY after the events of the game" so. I double don't know what they're gonna be doing. Are they even all gonna be together???
Is there any chance the hbo series will be good. Like any. Acrually
What do you think of the HBO show that was announced?
I think it could be genuinely good / am excited
Fun watch but likely mischaracterized / bad plot / etc
Most mid thing you've ever seen
Not technically out of character but too dry to enjoy
Plot might be okay, but it's painfully out of character
I think it'll be awful in every way
I don't know / See results

Some things we know:
The showrunner is Craig Mazin who worked on The Last of Us, Larian is not involved in the show at all, and it will be set post-game (so not a retelling of in-game events)
Something I'm curious about with this show is. Will there be a "tav" or durge?? It feels like it matters who is the designated Main Character so?
The New Baldur's Gate 3 MTG Cards Give Wyll's Big Story Moment To Shadowheart, And Fans Are Confused
Being a Wyll Ravengard fan is rough. He has the least amount of content of all the origin companions in Baldur's Gate 3, and the conclusion of his storyline isn't treated with as much significance as everyone else's. Hell, Larian hasn't even fixed the issue causing him to have voice lines from a totally different actor play while you're controlling him.
So, seeing that he's missing out on the latest Magic: The Gathering x Baldur's Gate 3 crossover is hardly surprising at this point, especially since only two companions are in the spotlight this time, Shadowheart and Gale. It is, however, pretty strange to see that one of them has a card that is heavily Wyll-inspired, with Shadowheart depicted in a scene that looks a whole lot like the warlock's personal quest.
In the Shadowheart set, the Ancient Bronze Dragon card shows the fan-favourite cleric going up against Ansur, the final boss in Wyll's questline. While technically, you don't need Wyll around to complete the quest, it is still part of his story, and the fight can only be unlocked if you pay attention to his side quests. So, fans were quick to notice when this moment was given to another character, especially when Wyll is already incredibly overlooked.
"There's one companion who getting Ansur would make perfect sense for. It's part of his main quest, his literal Dad tells you to go there," says Reddit user Tonedeafmusical. "But nope, no Wyll. But I'm sure if he gets a pack, Mizora will be more prominent than him in half the deck."
