Some Thoughts About SvS
I was reading through the transcript of SvS for another project Iām working on, and I started noticing a few interesting things! So I decided to write a quick post on some of the things I noticed and my impressions of some elements of the episode. This is less of a theory post and more of just an analysis of the charactersā actions and words. And I know, Iām like a year and a half late, but some of this stuff still resonates with me.
Credit goes to the incredibleĀ @beauty-and-passionĀ for the inspiration, they have some really amazing analysis posts, including this one about SvS that directly inspired some of my points! Please check them out, your day will be better for it!
Well, without further ado:
āI, the brilliant Logan, think we should hear it straight from the horseās mouth.ā
This is the second time Janus has impersonated one of the others. But in contrast to when he impersonated Patton, which lasted almost a whole episode, heās unmasked in less than a minute this time. This could be attributed to the othersā new awareness of the idea that Janus could be impersonating them, or the fact that Janusā impression was flawed at best:
He immediately uses two idioms,Ā āstraight from the horseās mouthā andĀ āthe floor is yours.ā He rises up at an angle, clearly not used to it. He refers to himself asĀ ābrilliant,ā and although Logan has a healthy ego, he never compliments himself directly! He just takes advantage of compliments leveraged at him by others. He has aĀ āfondness for being told that [heās] rightā but doesnāt give himself random compliments, especially when, in his mind, he hasnāt done anything to deserve them.
This exposes a fatal misconception in Janusā portrayal of Logan. Janus shows Logan as healthier than he is, emotionally and mentally. Maybe Janus is aware of Loganās facade. He sarcastically remarks āOf course you donātā when Logan asserts that he doesnāt have feelings. He probably understands the lies Logan tells himself better than perhaps any other Side. But when trying to portray this, he overdoes it. He doesnāt know how to walk the fine line between ego and insecurity. At heart, he can understand that Logan is lying to himself, but he may not actually understand the drive behind that and the complexity of Loganās issues.
Or perhaps he actually does believe the persona that Logan has created. Maybe he sees Loganās facade of confidence and believes itās all there is. He hasnāt seen Loganās outbursts and moments of vulnerability, unlike the others, who have been there through the highs and lows. Itās interesting that Janus, a side built on lies, could be fully convinced of Loganās own.

This is such a well written analysis, I'm so glad I took the time to read through all of this.
CHARACTER PROFILEšJANUS SANDERSšSanders Sides (insp.)
(Logan) (Roman) (Patton) (Virgil)Ā (Janus) (Remus) (Thomas)
An Orange side theory - And a theory as to why Virgilās name doesnāt end with an -us
(This is just a theory a game theory, Iām not claiming this to be entirely correct, this is just for fun)
From what we have been told, the dark sides are parts of himself that Thomas associates with being a bad person. However, this doesnāt quite track with Virgil. Thomas has never expressed that Anxiety being a part of him makes him any less of a morally good person. The main problem he and the rest of the sides had with Virgil was how hard he made Thomasās life at times.
Additionally, the āIs Thomas a good person?ā-arc seems to be somewhat finished. With the last episode bringing it to a conclusion, featuring this line from Patton:
Everyone shut up, ace remus time now pleaseĀ
