His hands shake as his lover starts to fall, holding onto his body as tight as he could allow. Geno had become so fragile in the past weeks, but he had seemed so happy, lighter than Reaper had witnessed in months. He knows now that his lover was truly getting lighter, the weight of his soul lessening as his death inched closer by the second.
Reaper wasn't expecting Geno to go so soon. To him, they've barely spent days together compared to the solitude he had lived within for his entire being. His soul almost lurched as the spider lilies protruding from his lover's eternal scar. Though some wounds didn't last with dying souls, Geno seemed to defy it. Just like he had with death itself. Maybe that's why Reaper felt such an interest from the start, because this soul just went against everything he knew.
Or maybe Reaper had just let him do so.
But does that matter now? The soul he loved so much was parting in his arms. Even when his magic started to fade and die, he smiled. Geno just looked into death's eyes and smiled. He couldn't accept this, he really couldn't. His lover was deciding that now was the time, and he couldn't.
Tears he forgot he was able to shed slipped from his sockets, landing on the withering bone of Geno's cheek. It wasn't fair, to make him do this now. Ever, really, because Reaper would never be ready to let go. After so long of having nothing, the one time he truly has something, it starts to wither away.
The feeling of something being pressed into his hand made him look down quickly, a sob building up in his chest at the sight of one single spider lily. He pushed it away, desperately refusing the flower. No, Geno couldn't make him.
"No-." He was able to choke out, watching as the hand went weak. No, Reaper can't- he can't do this. But he doesn't have the choice here, not when it was what his lover asked.
So he took the spider lily, his hand shaking and trying not to break down just yet. As the flower slowly withered in his grasp, so did Geno, succumbing into the fate of death as it was destined to be.
