ABOUT US:
Here at WRACS, our main objective is the conservation of water type pokemon. All of our staff has been trained specifically to interact with water types, including large and dangerous species. Through our many programs, we aim to educate and inspire people and pokemon alike to care for our environment and the amazing pokemon present within it.
The WRACS facility was started, and is still run, by Victory Harbor's very own Professors Cypress and Tupelo. Both of their Gyarados partners - Typhoon and Monsoon - can be seen from time to time within the aquarium. Rest assured that both of these Gyarados are extremely well behaved and pose no threat to the public.
Please come visit our Museum, Aquarium, and special Splashtopia to support our work - all proceeds gathered from tickets and adoption fees go towards our pokemon! We also have a gift shop, of which an amazing 80% of our merchandise is hand-made by local artisans! What a great way to support local creatives and help pokemon at the same time!
Check out our amazing adoption programs, as well as our unique "Magicarp & Me" program which is available at a discount for schools and other large groups. We hope to see you there!
FACILITY AREAS:
Main Public Entrances - One on the Aquarium side and one on the Museum side; get your tickets or inquire about our programs here!
Splashtopia - Wading pool where magikarp and other, adoptable-ready pokemon can swim with patrons. Public showers are available and washing is mandatory in order to enter the pool.
Museum - Available through the right side entrance; offers a detailed look at the history of our waters and pokemon from prehistoric to modern eras.
Aquarium - Available through the left side entrance; swirls around the entire facility, minus the rehab building. Includes an underwater portion that extends into the harbor's sea for a glance at the natural habitat of wild pokemon!
Gift Shop - Educational and locally hand-made merchandise available!
Breeding Tanks - Private, sectioned off spaces where breeding research is done. The incubation area is viewable through the Aquarium pass.
Rehab Building - A building separated from the main facility that houses any pokemon who need extra care. This is not accessible to the public in any way.
Research Offices - Second floor of the main building, for the boring paperwork side of things. Also inaccessible to the public, though we're not sure why you would want to see it, anyways.
PROGRAMS:
Magikarp & Me - Aspiring trainers are matched with a magikarp for the day; it's their responsibility to care for the pokemon and ensure it's happiness, as well as train for the jumping contest at the end of the visit! Each attendee will receive a collectible wrist band with the name of their magikarp. Those who keep their wrist bands can see that magikarp for free in Splashtopia the next time they visit the facility.
Adoption Program - Trainers may apply to be paired with any adopt-ready pokemon for the day to form a bond. At least three visits are required before adoption can occur, and is based on the staff and pokemon's discretion.
STAFF:
Professor "Bald" Cypress (Pokemon: Typhoon, Nudi, Wizard, Pora)
Professor Tupelo (Pokemon: Monsoon, Branch, Acean, Chely)
Water Specialist Xavier (Pokemon: Aspi, Bunny, Dirk, Goliath, Heart, David)
Water Specialist Nix (Pokemon: Sharpedo, Spheal, Staryu, Mareanie, Tirtouga, Totodile)
Hex Researcher Violet (Pokemon: X, Bones, Gar, Stick... and KARPTiNA?!)
FRIENDS/ASSOCIATES:
Park Ranger Flint Evergreen from Kanata National Park (Pokemon: Ace, Rain, Yogi, Gadget, Scrap)
do you ever think about how if you dive into the ocean and go deeper and deeper you will pass through layers of darker and darker blue until everything is black and cold and the pressure will be so intense that it will kill you without protection but if you keep going you will find little glowing specks of light, and if you go up into the sky and go higher and higher you will pass through layers of darker and darker blue until everything is black and cold and the pressure will be so intense that it will kill you without protection but if you keep going you will find little glowing specks of light
I appreciate the sentiment but I don't get all those "we made it to the longest night of the year! the light will start returning soon! it's all uphill from here & we're halfway there!" posts because like. Oct-Dec is the easier half of Winter. Jan-Apr is way harder. there's no big holidays or decorations, everyone is kind of over the whole Cozy Hygge Sweaters & Cocoa vibe so they're just tired & restless instead, and the whole thing is so drawn out & uneventful that it feels like it lasts 10x longer
unironically i think we need to bring back computer labs because APPARENTLY some people WERENT taught basic computer literacy and internet safety in school
things about computers/the internet i think kids should be formally taught in schools because theyre important to know and the amount of soon to be grown adults i know who know NOTHING about any of these is quite frankly almost all of them (and resources to learn if you dont know these things, because its never to late to get better with computers)
how to troubleshoot by yourself when you have a technical problem
what common file types are
some very basics on how to use ""developer tools"" on your computer (because i cant think of a better way to refer to them) like task manager and command prompt (and their mac equivalents, terminal and activity monitor ofc)
how to read and understand a privacy policy and what your personal data is, as well as what it being collected actually means and steps you can take to keep it private
how to understand terms of service
(hey. if you have trouble with reading legalese and worry about being able to understand these policies anyways, here's a site that gives basic summaries of privacy policies and ToS)
what a cookie actually is
internet privacy and your digital footprint!! seriously i dont know why we stopped teaching people that they shouldnt be putting their entire real identity online in a world where your online actions can ruin you irl
basic safety measures like antivirus software (and why you should use it or if the built in one on windows or mac is enough for you) and backing up your computer (also a mac guide)
common keyboard shortcuts (and on mac)
as an additional note: things i think everyone should know on computers and the internet but schools may bit hesitant to teach about for whatever moral/legal standards schools pretend to operate on
vpns and adblockers! (btw for most of these where you can pay for things im purposefully not recommending any specific software but seriously just use ublock origin for an adblocker)
how to not get a virus while pirating something
what a temporary email is and when to use one
red flags that you shouldn't trust a website (and how to quickly check the security of a site)
what javascript on a website does and how to disable it to get around paywalls
ok one last addition! if you want to take it one level higher, i think learning the very basics of at least one programming language is good for people. it makes computers less scary and it makes you feel very cool, and a lot of people get discouraged about it because it seems overly complicated and hard to learn outside a formal classroom setting, so heres some resources for learning the very basics of python (because i consider it the easiest language to learn and knowing one language will make it easier to learn others)
an online compiler so you dont need to download anything or worry about running code directly on your computer if that makes you nervous
a basic video guide to introduce you to python and walk you through beginner steps
a guide to some syntax and commands you should know (this was literally my lifeline in my first CS class)
some performance tasks to give you things to code to practice and assess yourself
So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:
Cannot be bred naturally - requires human intervention
LOVES playing tricks on unsuspecting people, and can fly and turn invisible, like Gengar
Also has an exceptionally long tongue, like Gengar
Not available for interaction at Splashtopia
This one... hehe, well, there were no adverse effects, but it's one of a kind. I can and do imagine the genetic horrors that were manipulated to create this monstrosity! Hehehe! But it's mine - you can't have it! I love it too much!
We love playing hide and seek together, teeheehee!
Evolves into Magiclops?? Gyaranoir?? I don't know??
Cannot be bred naturally - requires human intervention
Can fly in the air and make itself invisible
Like duskull, it enjoys the sound of crying
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
Hehehe! Another favourite of mine! Hehe, I have one of these, too! They're so cute, hehe! It definitely acts more like a ghost than a fish pokemon, hehehe!
Cannot be bred naturally - requires human intervention
Loves holding the hands of children, but can't recall why
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
Hehehe! This is one of my favourites! Thankfully there are no adverse effects for this pokemon, hehe! And it's such a cute ghost! I was able to adopt one from the raid... hehehe! The rest are at the facility being well taken care of!
To any and all who need to know this, if I owe you art, if I am quiet for a while, if it’s slow in terms of content, know I am nursing a nasty RSI.
My hands have decided to quit on me, so I’m taking time to recover (it’s my own personal hell turns out), but if I can encourage anything while I’m out of commission, then do something creative. Write, sculpt, garden, anything just do it!! And send me links so I can see what you all make in my stead.
[[OOC: stares at blog Uhhhhh well I've been doing all this because of how inspired I am by Prof-Peach and asking you to draw a fusion made ME want to draw a fusion and that's how the whole Karp obsession started sooooo…. yeah. You're partially responsible for my Karps, in the oddest way. Congrats?]]
[[OOC Edit: I reblogged to the wrong blog. Again. AAAUGHG Tumblr I love you but I hate you.]]
Okay, Lankarp is officially my favorite so far (it was a difficult choice, they're all so cool!) Can I visit the facility and stare at it for a whole hour?
Oh, also, you mentioned they occur in the wild and that's the coolest fact I've heard today??!
I see researcher Violet must have a unique talent because she can see those amazing creatures! Do you think the Karps are just shy and that's why not everyone can see them? I hope they don't hide from me T.T
-'Mark'
Xavier: Of course you can visit! Our Splashtopia is open to everyone! Let me know when you'd like to arrange a visit and I'll be sure you get paired with a Lankarp so the two of you can enjoy each other's company!
[[OOC: Translation: feel free to respond to this post or join the discord to rp hanging out with lankarp, or if you don't want to rp the interaction your character is free to visit and "record" their experience! aka do whatever you like, the design is free to interact with ;) ]]
Xavier: Violet sure is special, all right, in more ways than one... but fear not! The magikarps aren't very shy, she just gets the luxury of studying them all. The only one that you won't be able to see is KARPTiNA, which is probably for the best. I'm 99% sure Violet made KARPTiNA up, after all... so it probably would be more concerning than not if you CAN see it...
Anyways, hope to see you at the facility soon! Thanks for all the support!
Cannot be bred naturally - requires human intervention
Is incapable of moving its fins to swim, but thankfully can float using its psychic powers
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
Hehehe! Another monstrosity given life! Thankfully this one can float, or it would simply sink to the bottom... You see, hehe... it cannot move its fins... since they are made of stone...
Will Team Rocket ever sink lower than this? Only time will tell, hehe!
Cannot be bred naturally - requires human intervention
The only fish pokemon with literal ears - they protect the organ that is responsible for their psychic powers, just like espurr
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
Hehehe, this one is a cutie, and thankfully has no adverse side effects! Heh, that doesn't mean it's okay that Team Rocket bred this, though... However... hehe... this little one is living its best life at the facility... only time will tell if we'll ever see its evolution, teehee!
Cannot occur naturally - human intervention needed
Happikarp's egg is not actually an egg, but a stone.
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
hehehe, this pokemon takes its genetics from the entire chansey line, and therefore does not evolve. It thinks the stone in its pouch is an egg and will happily carry it for its whole life, waiting for it to hatch.
A common hybrid, often sought after for its evolution, just like the two pokemon that make up its genetics.
Available for interaction at Splashtopia
This karp is extremely hardy and can live almost anywhere. It's extremely hard to evolve, however, which is why it's not more popular to breed them in captivity, hehe!
