Thinking as I'm making the 18th century Rohan coat for my husband, about how if I wanted to do a Gondor outfit for me to complement, what century should it be?
So the Rohan coat is 1750s in cut, but embellished with Celtic and Anglo-Saxon motifs, I'm thinking of how a Gondor look might use Byzantine or other Mediterranean inspired motifs, but need to decide on what the base garment will be.
My initial idea was if the Rohan coat is inspired by Éomer, why not make something to match his wife, Lothíriel of Dol Amroth (Gondor). I like that in PJ'S LOTR films, there are very distinct flavors to different kingdoms and people's and kinda wanted to keep playing with that idea. Both Tolkien himself and Wētā have stated that they took inspiration for Gondor from Byzantine ideas and it would be a fun contrast to the motifs I've used for Rohan.
What century should I take inspiration from for a costume of Lothíriel of Dol Amroth/Gondor?
Italian Renaissance
Late English Tudor (closer to 1600)
Early English Tudor (closer to 1500)
Also 18th century!
Medieval (approx 14th century)
