Christian Witchcraft Controversies
Divination, Deities, and Other Topics: Where Do Christians Fall?
I haven’t been very active recently, and there’s a reason for that, actually. Today, I prepared an extra long post for Christian Witches, with tons of research. If you have any questions, drop one in my inbox or message me, but here’s Christianity vs. Controversy!
Christianity vs. Divination
If you grew up in a strict religious household like I did, you’re most likely very familiar with the Deuteronomy 18:9-12. “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you."
What exactly is this verse saying? Is it saying that you can’t use your tarot cards or pendulums or examine numerology? Here’s the simple answer: No!
Ancient divination is actually very different from how it is practiced today. Divination back then specifically used human sacrifices and calling upon demons and false gods, which made our own Deity very angry.
As long as you use your divination practices in the eyes of God, you are perfectly fine.
Christianity vs. Pagan gods
Firstly, if you are a Christian, we have to understand that Pagan gods aren’t really gods to us. We, of course, believe in the holy trinity. In full honesty, I don’t even exactly know what Pagan gods are to Christian witches, because the answer is both yes and a no.
Some people like to think of them as demons, others angels, some think of them as just plain imaginary beings. I think to be clear, some of them are demons. Some may argue most of them, others may not, and that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. We know that some of them are demons in Christianity, as they encouraged sacrifice, cutting, and overall destruction. “They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger. They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known” (Deut 32:16-17).
However, some of the pagan gods are strikingly similar to the angels and archangels that God mentions. For example, some pagans worship Uriel, a mentioned archangel of God, but whom is more commonly referred to as Demeter in the pagan religion. Many of the other archangels are also gods in the pagan religion.
If you want to work with a spirit as pagans do, that’s not wrong. However, I highly encourage researching, and seeing whether what reached out to you was a demon or an angel of God. As long as they don’t take priority over God, and instead help you in your worship with God, our archangels can seriously help us in our practice.
A very big part of Wiccan practice is the worship of nature and all things natural. Is this wrong for Christians to do the same? No! The early verses of Genesis specifically talk about how God created both the heavens and the Earth, and in my opinion, it is vital to adore his creations. However, again, just don’t let it become a higher priority than God himself.
No, it’s not wrong. Christianity in itself has its own rituals, for all things Holy! Baptism and Communion themselves are rituals! Having a ritual simply defines setting a specific accordance to which you go through a step by step process in your worshipping of God. That’s all.
Christianity vs. Astrology
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I had a mother who told me that astrology is controlled by demons. Astrology is perfectly fine. God uses it himself in telling Abraham of his sons, and he communicated with several people through astrology. We are all created uniquely, but at the same time, God decides the time we are born, who we will be and etcetera… It’s not a coincidence that these things match up.
Christianity vs. The Wheel of the Year
I’ve gotten a lot of people ask what I celebrate; Christian holidays or pagan ones? The answer? Both! Celebrating a new time of the year and still celebrating God is completely possible, and it’s silly to think it’s not.
If you’ve been raised Christian, you’re told a lot of silly things that really just aren’t true, and if you want to see my research, here are all of my sources below! Blessed be, everyone.
