Yugi's soul room being composed of children's toys, at least near the beginning of canon, makes me wonder if Yugi had a certain fear of adulthood and of "growing up" in some capacity. Games and toys as comforts and something understandable and fun and in your control and keeping you busy in a gentler way, and you can play on your own or with others. There's nothing wrong with Yugi's soul harboring beloved children's toys. But perhaps there was something frightening about growing up, about those around you becoming more adult. It's easier to understand people when you're playing pretend or playing games, and there's a pressure that builds as one ages.

In contrast, a character like Seto sought to race into the world of adults and to grow up fast (it didn't work out great). Otogi's relationship with games as well as Seto's have components of games as cut-throat and merged into responsibility with different forms of pretending but also that these games still lend to understanding others and meeting other people and communicating.

Atem's existence was tied to games. And perhaps in some way, for a time, in some degree, Yugi pretended he was Atem. Pretended he could be so commanding and cool (as he saw Atem to be).

Which would be interesting in conjunction with his desire to grow and protect his friends. I’m not say this to debunk your theory, people can hold two conflicting ideas to be true.

But, in Duelist Kingdom he was upset about someone helping and covering for him and being unable to protect Anzu. He promised to be strong enough not to lose to his other self (probably both in both a romantic and practical sense). And then he wanted to prove to himself that he *had* grown when he took the puzzle off to play Jou/ Marik in the anchor duel. That he wasn’t the coward he was afraid he was, and that it wasn’t just the puzzle that gave him courage.

But I also wondered about the toys. We don’t see his soul room later on, do we? (I’ve forgotten) But I do like that interpretation. Growing up is still scary, even if it’s what we want. Toys and nostalgia are a great source of comfort for that.

Here are the drawings from April's Letters!

The theme was OCs and I had the pleasure to draw some pretty babies!

I'm currently offering two types of letters: monthly letter (exclusive for patrons, where they can choose what they want me to draw), and the mystery letters (public, where people will get a surprise original drawing) both of them cost $30 and people will get an original copic drawing + postcard and stickers delivered to their homes!

These have been super fun works where I feel more free to explore more copic style drawings 🥹💖 it's been so nice even when I get late to ship them 💦
