He sits back down. “Thanks.”
“Eh, no worries.” When she’s done, she goes back to where she sits. She is silent for a while, she then glances at Abel, “Aside from regaining our freedom, what’s the reason you’ve joined?”
He shrugs. “Alright, you can do what you usually do on missions then. Just make sure I don’t forget to grab some of their MREs on the way out, because I will.”
“I’m not going to make sure you won’t forget, because that takes so much time, I’ll just go grab them myself unlike you I’ve got pretty good memory.”
“Oh, I wasn’t– You don’t have to do that.” He stands. “Let me. I can do it.”
“I’m already doing it, big champ.”
“Good idea. I’ll put you on special detail for it.”
She chuckles some, “Nice. You don’t have to though.”
He scoffs. “Aren’t you supposed to be smart? You are obviously my problem.”
“How am I your problem?”
“But what was making the noise then?” Jade asked concerned. “If this place has ghosts then I am out.”
“I don’t know, we should just go back or something.”
“Fine.” Jade crossed her arms. “But hurry up please. I’m getting serious creeps right now.”
When she didn’t see anyone at all, she got really confused. “Jade, there’s nobody here.” She moved closer to where Jade is.
Aspen sits on the edge of a cot with a box of medical supplies by his side. He pulls one of his arms from his shirt, lifting it over his shoulder and examinging a large cut that goes across his side. He inhales sharply, obviously not expecting exaculy what he’d seen. A sound alerts him to another presence in the room and he drops his shirt. “You ever heard of privacy?” He snaps.
Thea isn’t exactly paying attention to anyone, only when she hears a voice does she look up. “I’m meters away from you, and I’m not bothering you. What’s your problem?”
Jade watched her nervously. “Don’t give me permission.” She tried to give a reassuring look to Thea. “I’m about three seconds away from sprinting out of here already.”
Thea tries to squint through the dim lit place, “Don’t leave me, until we’re sure some intruder’s here. One of us gotta live to inform the others.” She looks around, she then starts roaming around the area with her hands clenched into a fist.
“If you can wait for a moment, I will join you.”
“I can wait.” She nods.
“Okay…” Jade was really starting to worry now. “How about you go check it out and I stay here?” She shrugged at Thea.
Thea starts walking to where she thought that sound come from. “If I get strangled, run for your life.” She says as she looks over at Jade.
“Ah, that’s fair. Thanks for the consideration.” He grabs a spoon. “Are you interested at all in going on the supply run mission?”
“Oh, I can go. I’ll take note too to take more of these---” She motions her hand around her food. “Than soup.”
“I’m thinking about trying to stoke the fire a bit, but I don’t want to get up.” He looks over at her. “Everything okay?”
Thea looks up at him and nods, “Yes.” She moves a bit. “I’ll stoke it.” She stands up and starts stoking the fire.
Walking through the abandon corridors may have had the advantage of being alone. But it did very little to help Jade’s nerves, every noise making her jump. It was when she heard something that sounded like a person coughing that she began freaking out. “Hello? Is there someone here?” Jade called out.
Thea comes out from the opposite side of where the coughing noise came from. “I’ve been here. And I swear I wasn’t the one who’s coughing.”
Meters past the half mile of running and her body was ready to break. She wanted to go further but mind over matter didn’t seem to fly with people like her. She leaned back at the wall, panting heavily with her hand pressed against her inhaler inside her pocket. “No…” She told herself she did not need it, she was down to her last one. Her lips felt cold but she concentrated on the oxygen flowing through her body. She was breathing heavily, better not breathing at all.
She saw someone coming and she raised a hand as if to stop them. “I’m fine. Just catching my breath. What’s up?”
Thea notices Shiloh, and she can’t help but move towards the other girl to check on her. “I know, you look dandy.” She says because she doesn’t want to push the issue that Shiloh’s not okay. “I’m about to go for a run.”
abelziegler:
“Does the fire look smaller to you?” he asks after a moment.
Thea is silent for a long moment as she stares into space thinking. When she hears Abel’s voice, she snaps out of her thoughts and looks at him. “Well---” She looks at the fire with her head tilted slightly, “---sort of, no wonder it’s somehow chilly.”
He points to the bowl of soup. “With this?” He says in a ‘duh’ tone of voice, with a hopeful smile.
There’s a pause from Thea, she looks at her food and then at his soup. “This is my favorite, so I don’t think I’m going to trade it with your soup.”
