Abel pauses. He squares his shoulders and considers throwing the roll of duct tape in his hand at Ace’s face. It takes everything he has not to spit something sarcastic at Ace. “I haven’t heard from my dad in a while,” he says in a steady voice, “so I’m not sure.”
“Wow, really?” He looks over at Abel, giving him an apologetic face. “I’m sorry to hear that.” He goes back to looking through boxes. “I’m sure they’re fine.”
