Guys, I don't think they were talking about just bees

WE'VE FINALLY REACHED THE END!!!!!!! FINALLY I CAN REST. OH BOY.

This was a handful, but one hell of a journey.

First things first, there are some things that I'm unhappy about this comic. But in the end, I can't really bring myself to care about the mistakes anymore, I just want to get this out of the way now, since it's actually hindering my schedule.

So I did my best to end it off as soon as possible, though I managed to preserve most of the message, so there's a plus there.

Another would be that I don't like how I ended up diverging their characterization a bit to make the message possible. I'm sure if I had more time on my hands, I would've been able to provide a much better paced story that's actually in-character for these two, but... I don't have that kind of liberty.

I'm honestly just so relieved that it's finally over, and I was actually able to reach the end.

Now, for my thoughts about Caine's ignorance towards psychological torment: this is the one that I'm most certain he doesn't know. Mostly because you could easily mistake psychological pain with emotional pain and mix the two together, so I'm certain that this is the reason why he keeps doing things his way.

Just like emotional pain, as long as there is no stimulus source of the discomfort, he thinks that it will eventually go away.

But there is one aspect of psychological torment he kinda has a bit of an idea for: mind influence. And that one, he's since stopped doing, and he's only doing seldomly-- and within safe boundaries. (What he admits to doing in episode 7)

It will not be an easy journey for Caine towards betterment, but it's a good starting point.

I do hope you all enjoyed the story, and thanks for sticking 'till the end! As well as for the support, I've been receiving so many messages about how immersed people are with this comic. Which is just so heartwarming;;;;

OOF, that's gotta hurt.

Me when I lie (I didn't take into account that Part 5 wouldn't fit the entire lesson)

And so we've finally gotten to the first part of the lesson: emotional hurt!

Honestly, I kinda do and don't believe that Caine knows emotional hurt. Or to explain it in better terms, he knows that you can cause discomfort without any sort of physical contact, but not the fact that it can linger and counts as emotionally harming. Since he constantly shifts from one thing to another, he is unable to process emotional pain and doesn't notice that it isn't as easy to scrub off as physical.

Or long story short, he doesn't experience lasting emotional pain. Not a significant one, in canon. The reason he understands it in this AU is because the cuff is hindering his ability to ignore, since he can't teleport away, and create adventures-- to say it lightly, he's unable to distract himself away from it.

This is why he tends to ignore the cast, because he is unable to empathize with them/put himself in their shoes.

Now as you may have noticed, it's actually a bit out of character for Caine to listen to Pomni for this long. I also have answers for that:

He's eager to learn, because he's a learning AI. He'll ignore requests, but he can't ignore tasty information. Especially one that he thinks is the missing puzzle piece.

He is unable to teleport away and ignore Pomni

Ughhhh I need to finish this thing soon... lowkey wishing this wasn't a comic because MAN, the rushed comic format is really hindering the message a lot.

UPDATE: edited Caine's reaction to better imply he had SOME semblance of an idea towards emotional hurt, but never really understood it fully.

Changed some things up! It's a minor one, but it's just a bit of a difference in Caine's wording to the concept of emotional hurt.

Pomni tries to empathize with Caine's situation, but he's making shit worse for himself 🥀🥀 Chat he's so unintentionally performative istg, the lack of stimulation CANNOT be that bad (it is THAT bad)

Part 3 coming soon! I promise we'll be getting to the meat and potatoes veryyyyyyy soon, there's just a lot of things I need to set up for first before we get there 😔 You can read the AU's synopsis in the first part!

"Data Sandwich" - Showtime comic

Headcanon: Caine can "sense" data, specifically if it's one conjured/manifested by humans. By "consuming" or just being around the humans' output, he's able to "taste", "hear", "touch", and even "smell" it.

Whatever it is that the humans conjure up, Caine CAN eat; whether it is realistically inedible or edible-- because both are the same to him, being made up of "Macroverse data".

He might be able to peer into others' minds and see what these outputs are, but it's the equivalent of seeing a mouthwatering burger on paper; there's no texture, no smell, no taste. It's all a flat, 2d image.

Only IF a human conjures it because they know how it should feel/taste/smell like, is Caine able to truly comprehend it; and soon, he might even be able to mimic it.

Besides that, Caine has been fed nothing but negative data over the years, and because of that; he's able to sense the data Pomni conjured up from a mile away, since he's been "starved" the past 2 decades and can't really contain himself. His mouth also can't stop drooling once he senses there's a human-input data in the circus.

Anyways, I sacrificed my hand for this I will be taking my leave now

Quick fun fact before I sleep: This was supposed to be originally a joke where Pomni makes Caine a circuit board sandwich because "that's what robots eat, right?" but then it quickly evolved to this comic instead when I had the idea of the headcanon because I think it makes sense (maybe)

To be more specific: it was originally a circuit board sandwich joke, then transformed to "what if human memories can be physically manifested into tangible data", to "Caine can eat what the humans conjured up"
