The Alpinist is a 2D narrative contemplative platformer developped by Bobcat Studio, a team composed of six students in graphic design and video games.
You play as Z., a woman and an experienced mountaineer, braving the ascent of a mountain peak somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, in the middle of a renowned dangerous region. Tormented after a tragic event, she starts this introspective quest searching for some kind of appeasement.
You will confront dangerous situations, calling for your character climbing competences and, sometimes, your survival instinct.
During this initiatory journey, discover her story and learn more about mountain climbing, nature and wildlife.
Bobcat Studio Bobcat Studio is composed of six students in graphic design and game design at e-artsup, Paris:
William, creator and lead programmer
Ludovic, environment artistRomain, level, game, motion and sound designer
Malie, illustrator and animator
Lorrène, animator and UI/UX designer
Floh, chara designer, animator and community manager
Gameplay Z., our main character, can walk, run, jump, climb with ice axes and a rope and light the way with lights. These objects represent most of her equipment, but her inventory also counts other items, which serve the narration.
Graphic intentions Our artistic direction takes root as well in painting as in animation movies and video games.
Our backgrounds are conceived in 2D for a 3D canvas in Unity3D. They are voluntarily realist and entrain a huge amount of researches to give them credibility and character.
The animals and the main character are almost flat, to bring them out more compared to the backgrounds, in line with several 2D animation movies.
The UI/UX design is minimalist so it can leave the place to the game visuals.
Regarding our musical orientation, we are between, in an ambiance style, folk and country. The evolution of the atmosphere during the game is marked by a more relaxing passage to something more oppressing before the final appeasement.
