TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT. He has spent many a month dreaming of this evening, of the day he would be granted an opportunity such as this to take Elizabeth out on a lavish date. Gaze as blue as a cloudless sky have admired the eldest Liddell daughter for what feels like forever; drank in her beauty & wit like a drunk to the most fruitful and delicious wine. She is truly a sight to behold, and it is no wonder many a man fancies her hand. James Galsworthy himself, could pluck any woman from the masses to dote upon â they are a field of fresh flowers, aught to be tended to with care, and he could have his pick so very easily, from any lily, lilac or rose⊠but he desires naught but the one who has ignited the embers of passion within him, turned his heart into log fire hearth, crackling and burning brighter than any lone star. She has installed a sense of warmth and acceptance into him⊠James is so very fond of her, and even if things do not end up the way he secretly hopes, he will always be grateful for her friendship and unfailing kindness.Â
âGood afternoon, Miss Liddell.â Itâs growing cold in London, on the brink of a bitter December. He is dressed in his uniform, the crispest of whites paired with the deepest of blues, always a picture of handsomeness & charm, hat upon his head, draped in thick black woolen coat to keep back the bite of the cold. A gloved hand extends to take one of her small, dainty ones, and the future Admiral lifts her hand as if it were made of porcelain, precious and easily broken, to brush his lips to her knuckles in tender kiss. âI am so glad you were able to make our arrangements.â They had been somewhat last minute: but he is eager to take her to the theater, eager to show her the wonderful enjoyments life has in store. James makes to open the door of his fatherâs horse drawn carriage in which heâs borrowing, standing back a little so Elizabeth may enter. âAfter you, darling. I do hope youâre warm enough?â
SHEâS EXCITED, OF THIS THERE IS NO DOUBT. Butterflies flutter around in her stomach, the smile on red lips seemingly permanent. Nervousness does not exist here, for she is completely comfortable with James. But the giddy happiness has had her practically bouncing about her room and chatting incoherently to her sister as sheâs gotten ready. Dressed in her most flattering dress with her hair down in light curls off of her shoulders, she feels as radiant as she looks. This is an interesting feeling to her, she realizes; she had never gotten herself worked up over a man before. Prior to meeting James, no one had caught her eye in any fashion worth noting. Many a man played for her hand, and sheâs lucky her father is a firm believer in allowing his daughters to make their own decisions. So to be going on a date with the one man who has made her heart flutter in ways she never thought possible...it is a privilege indeed.Â
âGood afternoon, Captain Galsworthy,â Elizabeth says with a curtsy, eyes shining despite her calm tone. He looks dashing as always, and counts herself very lucky to be on his arm tonight. She allows him to take her hand, miraculously able to keep the warmth in her cheeks at bay. âBut of course- I wouldnât dare to miss it.â She takes the first step up into the carriage, hands holding the front of her dress up just enough to expose her shoes. Her head turns to face him again, nodding. âI believe I am- but I suppose we will just have to see, wonât we?âÂ
